Parra.....The aftermath

Watching again whilst the forwards were great for the most part we still lost the middle of the field too easily in the middle part of the game..RCG and Paulo ran for more than 500m combined ..we only had Aloiai who played too many minutes straight last night rack over 100m..

The lack of troops cost us ..we finished strongly however and never gave up..the pride in the jersey was obvious...

Getting some blokes back will only help ..looking back to this game ..we can continue to build and hold us in good stead with the tough run home..good signs..

That’s a shame, hopefully some of the injured forwards will be back on deck to cover for him. We really need Twal back asap.

Packer is free to play if he takes early guilty plea

Lot of positives last night

Few negatives

Positives

Our fight for 80 minutes
Blore
The amount of chances we created
Our defence in the face of adversity

Negatives

Stupid errors from the back 3
Some lazy moments defensively
Our lack of calm when we went 14 down
Goalkicking

Thoughts ..anything anyone would like to add

Thanks for making the thread. The only aftermath I've witnessed is Parra fans *seriously* in their feelings today. Hilarious.

You won the game lads, be happy.

But, noooooo. All they want to talk about it seems is the welfare of poor Ryan 'I trained for 11 minutes too long' Matterson. "Packer's such a dog for making light of a head injury" they cry, as if half a second after he bumped off Matterson and was still getting tackled he's supposed to somehow show concern for the bloke. Spare me.

I have zero time for Parra fans. Up there with Souths for being fairweather AF and the most precious of victors.

Positives:
Benji is the best half we have. Sign him for next year if he's fit. Would be the best value for return half. He was the only one consistently troubling Parra. He's leading most halves in the Dally M
Defence. Last year the score would have been a blowout
Depth. Lost 5+ players yet we were still in the game
The Benji Douhi attack
Harry, Blore, Luciano
Lawrence in the centres as a back up. Great defence. He should be at least on the bench as a forward/replacement back. May have slowed down but great in defence and never gives up.
Mcintyre what a great find
Packer. Finally some aggression and passion
Great forwards potential
Negatives
Douhi needs to improve positional play. Needs to cover better. Looks slow.
Brooks where does he fit in?
Goal kicking
Backline defence
Overall a great effort despite being handicapped by injury. A lot to look forward to as the team improves. Last week all the decisions went our way, this week not many. Definitely a top 8 side!

Our former goal kicking fullback is in the coaching ranks. Maybe he should spent time with the boys.

As was Richards for a while. You would think both he and Hodgson would’ve done some training with these guys already. Perhaps they just aren’t great kickers and never will be. It’s a skill that not everyone has, we just need to find a player who does have that skill.

Sometimes being able to do something and then being able to coach it can be difficult

One might say most of the time it's difficult to coach skills you have to others.

Not only that but everything is opposite in Mbye's case with Hodgo

As a leftie I had the same issues watching golf videos

Unfortunately they said he has carry over points so he will miss one match if he takes the plea.

I would fight it as it was not a crusher and he was to the side.

how many if he fights and loses? 2?

Nothing really to add Happy. The effort was there for all but a couple of moments, which we paid dearly for. The RCG try should never have occurred and if Aloiai or Doueihi makes the tackle...the game potentially turns out differently.

I think Madge really needs to reconsider playing Doueihi in the defensive line inside our 20. As we all know, he lacks outright pace and Moses exploited that perfectly last night with the chip and chase try. I think he really needs to be working hard on the tryline following the play unfolding in front of him where he should be able to react more effectively to chip kicks/grubbers.

I like the 6 again call, but find that it seriously allows a ref to have a dominant effect on the result of the game, Sutton allowed the slimmers a 75% possession at a critical time in the game and it was all over,no need to even up when the game is over and the damage is done. Many of the 6 agains were also late in the count which gave us little chance to hold out a good team but so poud that we tried our guts out.
Would love to track Sutton from now on as to when he gives the six agains and the reasons for the repeat sets but half the time we have no idea why the repeats are given. Tigers coaches need to monitor this part of our game in future games

When a ref calls a repeat set / six agains he should also call out what they were for ....

Holding down
Hand on the ball
Crowding
...etc

The way it’s done now is a farce

To be fair, even if you had Usain Bolt defending where AD was in the line the other night, he wouldn't have stopped "The Tanker" from scoring.

Unfortunately in the modern game it seems to have become the norm for the FB to defend in the line. Also the stupid idea of having the FB in the scrum when it goes down in the opposition territory with them feeding. Open for a kick from the scrum for JAC or someone with speed to score at the other end.

1. I liked the way we kept pressing to the end. Probably should’ve scored more but eventually got that last try.
2. Our discipline let us down but unlike previous years I was actually enjoying watching our boys defend our mistakes, not dreading a whitewash.
3. We uncovered Blore, the smiling assassin
4. There is clearly a toughness in our team & passion for the jersey. Look at the way Packer reacted behind the try line after RCG scored. We’re hunting as a pack & holding each other accountable.
5. Why aren’t we supporting Grant up the middle???!!!

Positives for me were that we hang in there. That’s a game we easily lose by 50 previously. Bore , wow wow wow.

Negatives - we put no pressure on their kicker at all. Grant looks like he’s playing injured. Douhei looks injured. Refs keep killing us. What’s the go with that???????

Positive; we didn’t get mauled and we dug deep against the odds.

Negative; we lack pace in our back line.

Our performance against Parra has left me feeling pretty disappointed.

We learnt nothing new about the team but witnessed the continuation of a worrying trend – that is, we can’t go with the top teams for the full 80 minutes.

The best we can do is compete for 40 minutes but then poor discipline and incomplete sets mean we are defending grimly for the other 40 minutes.

In the second half, Parra had 60% of the ball and had 6 times the number of tackles in our 20 and they completed over 70% more sets than us.

We have been caned in the penalties against the Titans, Raiders, Panthers, Souths and now the Eels.
It doesn’t have to be that way. Other teams can cop a flogging and still not give away an avalanche of penalties and set restarts and also maintain a decent completion rate. For example, check out the stats for the Broncos for the last two weeks. They have been beaten 94 – 8 and yet their discipline and execution have been OK given the circumstances. They have been flogged by teams playing better football, not because the officials gave their opponents a leg-up.

If we can’t get at least 50% of the ball, then I don’t see us worrying any of the top teams. (In fact since the resumption we have only enjoyed 50% or more ball in two games, and it won’t take much insight to work out who our opponents were).

When the attacking team is close to the line there is no chance that a single person can defend the 60m width of the field behind the defensive line. If you put 2 players back, you are defending 13 with 11 so there will be overlaps and there will still be gaps for 2 people covering 30m each.

That is why *all* teams have the fullback in the line when they are defending inside their 10m zone.

A faster fullback has more of a chance, if you had a fullback that is only fast like Alex Johnson you lose a lot in attack. Tedesco, RTS and Turbo are great all round fullbacks, but we can't have them.
