The Eels said in a statement getting the 2016 team under the salary cap before their next game is their priority one day after coach Brad Arthur said he and the players still held out hopes of reaching the finals. It is believed this season's Eels team is $570,000 over the cap and with a game against South Sydney looming in round 10, the club is keen to get its 2016 books in order before the May 13 clash.
"The process is being led by former NRL salary cap auditor and club consultant, Ian Schubert, in accordance with NRL requirements," the statement read. "The club recognises that being salary cap compliant and able to accrue competition points is essential for the Parramatta Eels playing group, members and supporters, and the game of rugby league. "The club is also working closely with the NRL throughout this process."
On Tuesday former Parramatta chief executive Denis Fitzgerald said getting under the cap before the round 10 game would be "very difficult".

To prove a point, and yes it may be over the top: the NRL should clearly stipulate
If any team has been identified over being over the salary cap, depending on the period, the same amount of time in, they will get no points.
eg you have been identified as being over for 3 years, like 2013,2014,2015, then when you are found out, you get no points for 2016, 2017, 2018.
It is harsh. Well yes, but it may just stop a repeat of this.

Jarryd Hayne seems to have gotten out of all this unscathed as well, he was one of the main blokes getting the cash payments by all reports.
The NRL could really drive the Parramatta club into the ground if it was fair dinkum, but it's not. Hence the pissweak punishment.
Greenberg the shifty, slimy ferret was almost apologetic towards Parra when announcing their punishment. The NRL only has balls when it suits them.
God forbid WT ever get caught pulling a rort like Parra got busted with, the NRL would be more than happy to grind us into oblivion.........or relocation.

Why would Brad Arthur know exactly what ever player was earning , and remember we aren't just talking salary cap , some players could have 2-3 TPA's as well added in ??

Happy, as far as Brad Arthur not having a clue about his team being over the cap as you say, coaches moan about putting in 12-14 hour days at their club so unless he is a deaf mute he would have a pretty good idea of the goings-on at Parra.
Anyone with half a brain thought it odd that Parra could lose 1 player (Hayne) and replace him with Foran (on massive money), Beau Scott (on massive money), Jennings (established Aus and Origin rep who wouldn't come cheap), Watmough (who was an established Aus and Origin rep when he was signed on reportedly huge money), Michael Gordon and whoever else. I can't vouch for QLD mathematical skills but to me 4 or 5 very very well paid players as a swap for 1 very very well paid player doesn't seem to add up.
It would be easy and convenient as a coach to pretend to be a dullard when it comes to how your side is full of representative players yet you are still magically under the salary cap. Trent Robinson would know this better than anyone in the NRL after the Roosters fielded 17 players in matches a year or 2 ago who were all rep players of some sort.
Unca Whine and his Broncos would be pretty seedy too you would think?

I think the chances of Coaches not knowing anything about what players are paid is a bit hard to believe. they may not know exact amounts, but they can put two and two together

Former club chief executives have warned the Eels face overwhelming odds to shed $570,000 from their salary cap before taking on South Sydney next Friday and risk upsetting team harmony if they act too rashly. The Eels will have to offload up to four players to get under the cap though the retirement of back-rower Anthony Watmough due to a chronic knee injury could provide some relief.
The Eels are on today expected to lodge paperwork with the NRL in a bid to certify Watmough's retirement, according to Fox Sports News. After being assessed by NRL doctors, the governing body would then be able to decide how much of his annual $700,000 salary could be cleared from the books. Without the former Australian and NSW representative standing down, the Eels face a monumental task to be cleared to play for points in just over a week.
Grant Mayer, the former Wests Tigers and Manly chief executive and current boss of newly crowned A-League champions Adelaide United, said he would be "staggered" if the Eels could get cap compliant in nine days. "It's almost impossible," Mayer told AAP.
The Eels on Wednesday released a statement which could be interpreted as their first recognition that they had breached the salary cap when they reiterated their commitment to being cap compliant by next Friday. However Mayer, who was at Canterbury as events and operations manager in 2002 when the Bulldogs were punished for salary cap breaches, said any player contracted beyond this year would be hesitant to move on. "Players who have got contracts expect that they won't be any worse off if they relocate," Mayer said. "That's the issue. There's six months of the season gone and they'd want at least 50 per cent of any figure, plus they might have two or three years left. "Plus the relationships that will be lost. "The player should be no worse off. It's a complex negotiation and I'd be personally staggered if they can get it sorted before (taking on the Rabbitohs)."
Ex-Cronulla boss Steve Noyce said it was not just a matter of working out how to offload players, with team morale also a factor. Former long-term NRL salary cap auditor Ian Schubert has been charged by the club to get the Eels under the cap.

Most people in the media are all saying how great it is that Parra have been given some light at the end of the tunnel by the NRL. I don't agree, why should they be given that opportunity? Cheats are scum that deserve no concessions. Its all about the ca$$$h for the NRL, they gave Parra the minimal punishment in order to get this whole cheating crap forgotton about ASAP and normal transmission resumed.

Most clubs caps will be close to full and then have to hope they don't have any injuries that might cause their own 2nd tier cap issues

If the NRL agrees to allow the remainder of Watmough's contract to be paid out outside the salary cap and backdates it to the beginning of the year, the club would almost certainly come under the cap.
