Pascoe sanctioned by the NRL

I thought this news was meant to be not catastrophic?

I doubt anyone at the Tigers expected the NRL response to this to be so fierce. Quite frankly I hope (and expect) the Tigers and Pascoe sue the NRL over it.

There has to be much more to this story than we've been speculating. Deregistration, if true, is a very serious penalty for what I would have thought was a medium level reporting mistake. The NRL needs to be very careful here, there can't be one level of punishment for some clubs and lesser levels for the favoured clubs.

Wests Tigers CEO Justin Pascoe has been deregistered by the NRL
December 19, 2018

In a major bombshell, the Tigers face being penalised more than $600,000 from their 2019 salary cap on top of a fine expected to be in excess of $700,000.

The stunning breach notice and penalties have emerged in wake of a two-month investigation by the NRL into an undeclared arrangement worth more than $400,000 over four years promised to Farah during his ugly departure from the Tigers in 2016.

Pascoe offered the ambassador role to Farah as a show of goodwill as Farah was pushed out of the club because of a fallout with then coach Jason Taylor, who was sacked in early 2017.

Pascoe was informed of the decision by the NRL alongside Tigers chair Marina Go this morning.

Pascoe has been warned he must not communicate or come into contact with any players, officials or board members of the club.

He will have 30-days to respond to the breach notice of which the Tigers intend to vehemently defend.

NRL boss Todd Greenberg is expected to announce the penalties at a midday press conference.

The decision came just before the NRL was due to hand down its decision on the future of Sharks coach Shane Flanagan.

More to come…

Why not?

Tigers fined $780k and lost $680k out of cap.

How many times is our club going to be hit? Obviously the NRL is trying to hit us to make way for a new NRL club (Papua New Guinea.) This is so cruel to a club which shines so much higher in honesty in comparison to other NRL clubs. This is smelling a lot like the Western Suburbs and Newtown evictions in the 80's and 90'. Appeal and fight in the highest court before we are forced out of the NRL within two years.
