Knights now lead 16-4 after a lovely line break by Will Price, who has probably been the most threatening attacking player out there.

Latu has thrown some lovely short balls.

Overall, this has been a typically slow, scrappy, first game of the season and if you were not sold by Aaron Payne's style of play last year, this very, very, very early sample will not have changed your mind.
Sadly, it is looking like an 0/3 weekend to start our senior grades.

Of the top 30 players:

Staines never stops trying but he's ineffectual in a poor team
Fainu has had some classy moments though his match fitness and defensive resolve are concerning
Saukuru's strong carries are offset by his diabolical defence
Sukkar is a log. He will never make it as an NRL player
Feledy is 20cm too short and several yards too slow for the NRL.
Laulil'ii is only good for a couple of strong carrier per game
Matamua is a mythical creature

The fact that Saukuru, Sukar, Feledy, Lauli'll and Matamua are in our top 30 is a terrible indictment on our depth.

36-4 now. What an awful team. Kurt Falls should come in as captain-coach because Payne clearly has NFI.
A few observations ...

- Tavana has some x-factor, some athletic gifts, I think his frame will fit out, nice cover defence, I feel like he'll have a breakout game this season in Cup.
- Our outside backs were owned by Newcastles even with the likes of Staines & Tuitupou.
- Saukuru's best option to have a professional career is in the backrow. Send him to Flegg to learn the trade.
- Liles tried & scored a nice individual try but like last season we suffered by having 2 inexperienced halves. Hopefully Kurt Falls is not far away.
- Latu Fainu played on the right, interesting! Was solid, just going through the motions, nothing stood out.
-Our middles were ok. Kit Laulilii & Tim Johanssen were good during their stints, as were Rahme, Aho & Noah J (despite the odd rush of blood to offload).
-Our edges with Porter & Sukkar and centres were rubbish. Seyfarth is safe.
-Every week that passes seems to cement Matamua's future beyond this season elsewhere.
-A future spine of Mason-Fainu-Falls-Hope is much better with Tavana tried on the wing.

Porter and Sukkar defending all day because of errors and lack of halves. No structure or leadership with the halves at all. To many errors from the middle forwards. Second rowers and centres did not see much ball at all.

Latu is definitely not a controlling half, we are wasting his time and ours if trying to turn him into one.
He is an extremely strong and dangerous ball runner wide of the ruck, why change it ?

Western Suburbs Magpies (44)
Tries: Kitione Kautoga 3, Brandon Tumeth 2, Sione Fainu, Jahream Bula, Junior Tupou
Goals: Brandon Wakeham 6

Sydney Roosters (18)
Tries: Sandon Smith, Ethan Clark-Wood, Joseph Taipari, Jordan Swann

** What a difference 2 years makes.
** Aaron Payne does not appear to be a coach that can get results and as others have pointed out, our lack of playing talent below our NRL squad is very concerning.

Yeah, Payne must be given the boot based on this compelling evidence.

You forgot Tumeth…
And we got rid of Faagutu and Miller.

We’d really be sailing with that many wannabes
not sure why we seem to be having problems lol moving on these contracts besides giving them /hoping they improve in time .Its was in Richo's 1st 5 statements that most of these contracts needed to be flushed ,yet they still suckle the teet

Did you happen to see marshall there?
Thanks for reminding me. Didn't see Benji or any of the assistant coaches. Lachlan Galvin was there. He seems a nice young man but is as skinny as I was when I was 18. Saw Pat Richards but that was about it. You'd think that they'd be watching the few realistic chances to move up to NRL level e.g Latu Fainu.
I'll be shocked if they promote anyone from Flegg or KOE this week. They might put Fainu on the bench but, not on form.

Disappointed in Latu Fainu so far. For a very hyped up kid he’s shown very few glimpses of the talent that people have talked up. Galvin is still so raw but his attitude appears to be streets ahead of the bloke.

I’m pretty sure Latu went from HM 2022 straight to cup in 2023 at Manly and hasn’t gone back down from there. It’s a hell of a promotion, needs time to play / adapt to the adult game.

And can you believe some want to play him as our lock.
He might be tall but no way is he physically ready to defend in the middle.

Also first time he has played 80 mins since 2023 - he is a 19yr old who hasn't played regular footy. You can't expect miracles especially in nsw cup with players he won't have trained with until this week. Plus we had 8 players out of top 30 unavailable so that means your effectively playing your Ron Massey team in cup in lots of positions
