No no no. Hands like feet. Will do a job if we get desperate but I’m probably picking Lobb first if I’m honest.
I'd just be releasing Lobb and Craig now. They both offer nothing, we need to take another gamble on a youngster with X factor. We have none, and that's why we lose. Trade Mason for a talented pacey young outside back or barnstorming second rower.

The Eels have a first grade forward pack and quick outside backs. This game could get very ugly.

8. Wiremu Greig
9. Joey Lussick
10. Ryan Matterson
11. Kelma Tuilagi
12. Bryce Cartwright
13. Charlie Guymer
It's time our blokes aimed up and showed they have NRL potential. We have a number of top 30 contracted players in the Magpies team & quite a lethal spine if they can gel (Hope - Mason - Fainu - Staines). I'm backing us in for the upset here.

Crazy to see Matterson plugging away in Ressies. He has failed the character test a couple of times but his ability was never in doubt.

Think there might be a blow out in cup this week when you put those forward packs next to eachother. Really shows, for all the recruitment, we are desperately short for depth across the pack

They defo aren't first grade at the moment, never quite have been or won't see much of it again. You're right though, they should be very good at Cup level.

A high quality, very close game. With a few more boys dropping back to Cup we looked a lot better. The effort was so much better than last week. I thought the fitness was on show. We finished stronger for mine.

Only a great tackle late in the game from the Eels' fullback stopped Mason from scoring under the posts and we would have been ahead 16-14 with 2 minutes left.

No standouts imo. All did what we knew they were capable of. I wish Johanssen got a bit more ball as he looked most likely and his ptb was fast.

Thanks rihannafan1, How did you rate Latu’s game ?

Pretty frustrating performance today going down to the Eels which the Magpies should have won. Lack of execution in red zone attack costly again.

Both teams pretty poor & noticeably impacted by the hot conditions with errors & poor decision-making.

A few observations ...

Tristan Hope - some poor delivery from dummy half behind the receiver. Great try-saving cover tackle & some good defensive efforts. Very poor decision on the 5th tackle after Mason almost scored with 2 mins to go, Latu was on the right which he should have gone but Hope goes left to 1st receiver Jayden Tanner who then throws an intercept (game over).

Heath Mason - thought was pretty good in the halves. Almost scored off a Fainu pass with 2 mins to go, just tackled short of the line. Has a big kicking game, some huge penalty touch finders & a couple of long clearing kicks.

Charlie Staines - arguably our best with Lobb, a couple of poor passes to his outside man let him down.

Alex Lobb - our best player albeit with an ineffective tackle in the 1st half for Eels' 1st try. 2 intercepts, some good runs & generally safe. Good NSW Cup performance.

Kit Laulilii - used in two short stints. Some strong runs & hope to see him build on these.

Tim Johannssen - typical Tim performance, strong in both attack & defence.

Latu Fainu - bit better than last week but looks to need more consistent reps in Cup to find his timing. If they keep him in Cup & he stays fit & healthy, a breakout game will happen I'm sure of it.

Personally I hope they can keep this team together for a few weeks maybe with Rahme at lock instead of Murray.

Aho, Rahme, Porter & Sukkar - solid, nothing more.

Charlie Murray - a couple of unforced handling errors let him down, I think Rahme is a better option at #13 in Cup if Matamua is on the outer.

Outside backs - like most others, no more than solid NSW Cup standard. Feledy was up against Alfred Smalley and it dawned on me that Feledy will probably turn out to be Alfred Smalley lol

We just don't have game breakers, at this level, or any below it. Not a single forward who can break the line, no fast backs. Just plodders, all over the field.

Were there any first grade prospects in this game for us? Latu, but it's hard for him even he's got nothing to work with. Mason isn't a 7. Stainesris t a fullback. Lovodua is rubbish, Hope is a bit erratic.
