I don't reckon that is true at this point in time. Seeing as he is on a development contract, if he already signed elsewhere for 2024 and beyond, we wouldn't bother continuing to develop him and then let him go a year later. We would release him and put other players in his place. Particularly as it is the beginning of the year. Potentially as the season progresses and if he doesn't have a contract for 2024 he may move. But at this point...he is a Tiger/Magpie!
As a married man and Tigers fan all I can say is don't apply logic to an illogical system.

The problem is we recruited about 80% of our dev players the past few seasons as sec rowers...

And just added another one this week (Mansfield)

With Ice on 3 years, Bateman (4 years) and Blore...there basically won't be spots for sec row.

Yet we have had 5 or 6 dev contracts given to those positions.

And hardly a soul at center (Feledy) or in the halves. I.e. spots we need dev players.

So, we will 'develop' backrowers who effectively have no path for the next three years...and thus leave.

Well the tigers had Henry O'Kane on a development contract and totally ballsed him up with incompetent rehab
My mail is Kautoga and O'Kane are very close, once the club didn't offer O'Kane a contract Kautoga didn't want to stay either.
A few months playing together and they're besties?
May have been doing rehab together. But he's been playing and training alongside a lot of the other boys for much longer....

He's said how he wanted to repay the faith shown in him by the club. He was off contract as O'Kane was, and he opted to re-sign.okane chose to leave

He was easily the best player on the field today and our only young forward prospect with the ability to make a difference. We have so many workers, players like him that can steam roll opponents, step, offload are much harder to come by.

If we've lost him (especially to a club just as stocked with players in his position) it would be absurdly poor roster management by us. We should be looking to extend him for another few years...

Kautoga was unstoppable in the attacking zone.
I was impressed by Fainu.
Tumeth playing at 100 miles per hour. Impressed, but can he pass?
Bula’s try was incredible. 90m, looked in 3rd gear, yet kept outpacing and swerving to stay alive.
Jordan Hill shoulder injury a concern.
Smith and Wakeham very polished.

On paper it is a very good team, stacked with fringe first graders who could hold their own in top level.
Its great to hear that so many of them played well.
Having a strong reserve grade = a healthy and competitive first grade

Apart from someone claiming it on the kennell, is there anything else to suggest Kautoga is heading to the Dogs next year? From memory it posted last year and he said he was signed for this year?

Some observations from watching the game

- first half was a snoozefest
- James took the lion share of the dominant startung front rower fainu replaced him for a decent period of time and both did a good job.
- first half the ex magpie, really quick indigenous player scored a couple of tries against edge of toupu and toa, didn't score down that edge in second half
- obviously standout Kitione Kautoga, tumeth, wakeham, Smith, Justin Matamua, bula
- can see why people r talking about bula

Roosters side looked pretty average but our guys next in linedominated

Fair call, but any idea who you would prefer to develop in his place? There isn’t a backrow prospect until you reach the 19s and Sukuru is more of a prop in Flegg.
I reckon his gone too and his manager floated the idea of being released early to see if the Tigers wanted to use the opportunity to develop someone else and well we didn’t release him.
Why would you? At least having him here for the year will help the other younger players grow and remain competitive in the 2nd tier.

The club has Mansfield locked up for 2024.

Also on a development contract. Where is he at the moment? Is he too old for Flegg? Good player injured quite a bit. Needs to get out there. Is moving on Kautoga gunna benefit Mansfield nope. More so keeping him here for this year will inspire him to want to get that position.
Funny you didn’t mention Kautoga is signed for 24.

He's injured at the moment, don't think it's serious.

He's 21 (turning 22 this year), so it's his first year out of Flegg.

And yeah, pretty sure Kautoga is only contracted with us for 2023, whereas Mansfield is locked up for '24.

I think it comes from the fact he was the only guy not used at all by Sheens in the trials.

He made his debut last season, yet was behind absolutely everyone in Sheens pre season pecking order. The club also gave other players NRL deals, but Kautoga only got a dev (despite already making his debut).

Potentially, IMO, he is the best of the lot. Offers genuine strike.

So, it would be a shame.
