the magpies are a disorganised mess, lacking talent and structure, with very few genuine prospects for first grade, hence they are failing. we have put all our eggs in the 15-18 year old bucket, and that's just wrong, amateur and frankly embarrassing

I was on Kayo and found the 2019 reggies GF between wenty and jets, Cronulla’s feeder, and the jets had 9 that go on to nrl. The 7 was trindall. I love it if our club was capable of that kind of recruitment and development.

I can see with the Will Smith & Roumanos' recruitment, the versatility & leadership of Jack Boyling, the consistency of Israel Ogden as a Cup player (not NRL), we have a base of solid Cup leaders/players.

We are seeing gradual improvement in Livai Saukuru, Brandon Mansfield & Triston Reilly with consistent game time & in the same position.

Seyfarth, Laurie, Blore can all slot in & work on aspects of their games as directed.

Hopefully we also see James, Fainu, Ngatakuira, Tumeth (when fit) take their games to the next level in the 2nd half of this season.

Unfortunately it would have been a great opportunity for Jordan Hill & Ngutlik this season but allows Scolari to get his game conditioning & touch back.

Perhaps we also see Da Silva, Faagutu, Laulilii, Feledy, Sukkar and injury-dependent Oliver Lawry later in the season to give them a taste.

I think lampkin is a decent coach magpies look tough this year.

That's what we should be aiming for, making the semis and having half the team go onto first grade. That's a successful season (albeit that success of a feeder side always can only be judged in retrospect as it may take months and sometimes years for players to make first grade)

I was at that game, was a great spectacle.

In order to achieve success you have to set high standards, and have high expectations. Our club historically ticks boxes rather than creates meaningful developments.

Sure, i can be critical, but if players playing lower grades are resting on their laurels and not busting their ass to impress as much as they can then we don't have the right culture of success and hard work breeding more success. Promotions are rarely earnt. That's our culture and a massive reason why we suck year after year

he doesn't recruit players for his squad, he largely gets dictated to by the football department. He's a good coach but isn't given the cattle to achieve success. Rather than sign players to help us this year and next, the club simply said there are teenagers coming through and they'll eventually get promoted to plug our gaps.

I rember he put his hand up for the head coaching job could be one to watch.
 
Our entire KOE Cup forward pack could get called up to NRL tomorrow and not look out of place.
Laurie showed he might be able to make a successful transition back to the halves and Saukuru continues to show signs that he could be genuine NRL standard.
Will Smith shows glimpses of the benefits of a halve straightening the attack and squaring up defenders, his try assist count must be quite high so far this season.
Nofa went ok and Scolari now has a few continuous games under his belt and keeps improving.
Would like to see Reilly show more in attack, but he hasn’t had a lot of opportunity.

Being a few years later, I am interested to know, since you were there and all, who do you remember or sticks in your mind as the best player on the day?

Exactly, well said. You negative Nancy.
The other thing I see our club do or not do, is follow through. If you make a plan stick with it. Like the indigenous connection club we were gunna be with the Jet and the origin centre we employed, whose name escapes me, to be some kind of indigenous manager. Why coz the coach change did that go? That’s a good idea and should still be going as a club culture type thing. Like not having ya reggie’s resting on their laurels. Those are the reggies that don’t get resigned, weed out and continually upgrade. That’s why I would have swapped Nofa or talua for JAC, I guess you would have to? I would have had more trouble with Talau coz we were technically still developing him.
 
Nofa wasn't as bad as some are suggesting. Made good metres in attack and managed a few offloads. Certainly better than his last outing vs Norths.

Laurie was dangerous when the game opened up at the end but it wasn't the type of performance that will win him a reprieve anytime soon. He needs to work on engaging the line and straightening the attack. He doesn't appear to have much of a kicking game either.

Forwards were strong, Mansfield and Blore especially. It was Fainu's best game in NSW cup - Sione that is, Latu was diabolical.

Livai Saukuru has come on in leaps and bounds this season and could be an outside chance of first grade later in the year if our torrid run with injuries continues.
 
Young backrower Brandon Webster-Mansfield has started the year in great form, scoring two tries off the bench last weekend.
Wests Tigers Player #185 Manaia Cherrington returns to the club after a stint in the QRL and will play his first game back with the Magpies in Bathurst.
