Credit to Josh Feledy and Peter Taateo who came up with 2 huge try saving tackles in their final defensive set of the game.

I thought our middles were strong (Hunt, Taateo, Rahme, Murray) on both sides of the ball.

Good to get the 2 points in a game we usually would lose.

No outstanding individual efforts but overall our defence was strong especially some key tackles late in the game which have been highlighted in earlier posts.

From an NRL futures perspective …

… great to see a barnstorming 1st stint from Royce Hunt and overall very good 40mins across 2 stints;

… Peter Taateo had his best game for us yet with strong carries & jolting defence;

… Brent Naden was massive with his runs, some key tackles & leadership in the halves;

… Luke Laulilii had 4 or 5 big plays during the game including a body-on-the-line try, contested bomb defusal & intercept play;

… Charlie Murray was direct with his running, busy in defence & versatile to fill in at dummyhalf for 15 mins including a burrow over try.

We certainly lacked a bit with no May, Kmapz, Makasini, Mason or Tuitupou this week & probably the early 1-2 punch of Hunt & Taateo was a big factor in our win laying the platform up the middle to get out to 18-0.
 
Hunt was okay. More involved than lately and does offer a point of difference in terms of his size. I don't think Benji actually wants to beat teams with physicality though.

Charlie Murray stood out more than usual. He seems to have gained a lot of confidence this year and plays like a leader now. He also looks like he has gotten bigger which is great.

Jaxson Rahme will be wondering what he has done wrong at this point. He has been the most consistent player in this side all year. Especially defensively. At the end of the game he put on an amazing hit.

Peter Taateo stood out too. His stats don't look amazing but he made some fairly damaging runs and has okay size.

Laulili looks like he's packing on a bit more weight which is good. His combo with Feledy looked handy in both attack and defense. Feledy looks a different player suddenly. I feel like he will kick on at Manly. Feledy and Laulili combined for the match winner.

Lobby is a handy type. Wouldn't surprise me at all if some other club turns him into a first grader. His aerial threat is elite and he is good out of yardage. That combo of skills has taken Daniel Tupou far.

I'd bring back Hunt for the Dogs. Think that might have Galvin looking over his shoulder for half the game whilst Hunt is on the field. Bird has unfortunately been underwhelming of late and he would be the one to make way. Besides I can't see Benji dropping Seyfarth.

Mate Bird is a waste of a spot I would give any of the young guns a run instead of him, too small for forwards and too slow for backs another dud signing.

When we have Doueihi at 13, there is no real need for Bird on the bench to cover the forwards and backs.
The only way Bird on the bench with Doueihi at 13 makes any sense is if Bird shares the 13 role with Doueihi to give us 2 ball playing 1st receiver 13’s similar to what the Bulldogs do.
Back to this thread topic being NSW Cup, I think nearly every comment from last nights game has nailed it.

Hope Bird gets a little push in the off-season and maybe secures himself a couple of years in the SL

Awesome , like your 1st sentence , rest is thumb's up , Appreciate you peeps inputs .Only RLR lives in print , and the girls/ ladies took over the time on foxtel . Godbless
 
Would’ve preferred Hunt on the bench in 1sts because we’re severely lacking in size and impact. He pushed out 40 minutes last week and looks to have trimmed down so a 20 minute stint in 1sts couldn’t have hurt.

Looks like Izaac T is going to get another go in 1sts.
 
Hunt + Staines miss NRL selection again. Skelton, in particular, should count himself very lucky.

Despite Lobb's good run of form, Laulilii should be fullback and Lobb on the wing.

Lovodua should find a new profession.

Surely you just swap Naden and Mason.

Maybe the are trying to develop the way Mason reads the game in attack and defence by playing him at the back?

They can't see him as a viable prospect at fb with the talent coming through behind him (brooks, tavana, laulilii) plus Turuva
