Surely the club sees Luke Laulilii, Logan Deininger, Cameron Kanaan & Tino Tavana as better long term fullback options.

AND

See Heath Mason's value as a utility, thus requiring development in the halves & dummyhalf. Why not start that development now rather than in the pre-season. He was given a couple of games in the halves in the NRL a month or so ago.

Maybe this discussion is null-in-void as we know that Tuesday selections do not always equate to how they line up on the weekend.
I take your point - however in relation to Deininger, Kanaan and to a lesser extent Tavana. They haven’t reached NSW Cup level yet. Mason looked great at fullback coming through - he’s only hit a wall playing in the senior grades.

True in relation to the 3 in Jersey Flegg, however Tavana will be 22yo next season and hopefully can lock down a NSW Cup contract at the very least.

We have a plethora of fullbacks coming through, even 1-2 years younger than those 3 whereas halves are a dime a dozen in our pathways.

Just don't see why we choke our fullback position with another player (Mason) when we have so many better long-term prospects. I'd even say Luke Laulilii is a better current prospect who has been brought up as a fullback when Mason was 5/8.

Yes Mason has looked good at times at fullback but he hasn't improved under the high ball, his cover defence is scratchy and he looks clunky chiming in on sweep plays.

It's just my opinion but I'd much rather Luke Laulilii be groomed as Bula's understudy next season. The kid dominated 2 NSW Cup games when he played fullback earlier this season.

What’s Mason’s contractual situation ?
Maybe the club’s assessment mirrors yours and he’s being squeezed out 🤷‍♂️

Mason will improve in the off season going to work on his agility/speed.
The kid can play but he is not a natural fullback we all know this except for Benji
Heath Mason is 20yrs old, and has gone backwards in development IMO.
He has probably peaked in ability due to size, speed, football IQ.
A Turmuth, Matuama type of experiment that didn't work out. We can do better
Time to move on, will never get to NRL level in any position.

The club has just signed a 5/8 from Queensland Jovan Andrews. Kid can attack well , his defence is liabilty. I just get worried when he was in the Titans system and I know the Broncos, Cowboys and Dolphins all passed on him. We should have a crack at bringing back Alex Conti, he is a Tigers junior and there is a backlog of halves at Bulldogs with Galvin now starting at 7 and Burton at 6, even Mitch Woods is waiting in line along with a few others, the dogs have also signed Aaymon Fitzgibbon. Stockpiling talent at will its madness.
