Yeh, we really stuffed up the last swap deal

I think we Stuffed Paul Momirovski! The Swap deal was semi-smart and worked.
So hear me out.
We go "James Roberts and BJ Leilua are our backs".
Momo goes "hey I am a first grade starter" after playing with Melbourne.
We go "no you are not, you wait behind Roberts and Leilua."
Momo was then vocally unhappy!

Unhappy momo for Daine Laurie 100% makes sense. It will take Daine time to gel at Fullback but he is a keeper.

We stuffed him around. Momo went to Melbourne and built himself up. Bellamy sends him back up. We treat him like a third wheel on his return.

No one thought "where does Momo fit". Why wasn't James Roberts put to Fullback? we killed our growth opportunity and so we look stupid. Now we have the same situation this year and people want to hire a center.

"history, never repeats. History, never repeats".

We made the right decision.

Disagree. That's ok though.

Getting Laurie early was crucial in my opinion.

I know you think that, that's why I said ok.

I don't think it made a big difference getting him early.

I will agree with you.
Had Laurie stayed at Panthers 1 more year he may have gone in for Dylan Edwards.
Keeping Momo in the Centers would have allowed him to partner with Nofo and Doueini.

Laurie is ours, were his club. 100%. Once we put Momo on the outer, without him playing a game we stuffed up.
Swapping Momo for Laurie at that point makes sense. But we should always have had Momo coming back to the full time squad.

If we played James R at fullback (or got BJ into the second row/bench rotation), kept Momo at the centers. We would have a better backline then we do now.
St George have paid big $ for Suli. I think teams are recognizing how having the same backline and a strong backline is necessary for Defense. We keep changing, people don't know their combinations, we will never get there.

I realise many fans like the idea of getting rid of Moma, but I could never see the sense in it?
Gosh , none of this Moma swapping has ever made sense to me?
Did we think Grant would get us into the 8?
Did we think Laurie would get us into the 8?
We’re constantly being told there is a long term plan, so why the short term solutions?

I personally thought our backline was pretty ineffective. Moving on our best centre didn’t improve it imo.
Getting Laurie early was was great , getting Grant some nrl games was great, but why were we so desperate? What outcome were we looking for? What did we achieve?

Our backline wasnt very effective, but a fullback (in attack) has MUCH bigger part to play than centre.

Ive said it a hundred times here already and Im totally bored with it. our squad/team is stronger in it with Laurie present and Momo absent than the other way around. Massive benefits in getting Laurie early at a young age to mix with the team and bed into our club, Everything will happen with him a year earlier than otherwise. Momo in hindsight is/was better than the other options we had for centre but to be honest its not light years between him and the way Talau finished the season.

Ive never seen so much angst/lament for a more average player. He is a good solid first grader and thats it. Good luck to the bloke for what he achieved at Penrith, but lets be honest, if he was at Bulldogs no one would be talking about him.

Haha, what you call angst and lament for an average player , to my mind is something else entirely different. My concern is more for the choices made by the club and it’s decision making processes, which appear to be sending us closer to the bottom of the ladder than the top.

I think we should have a red hot go at signing Momirovski.

Maybe if he comes back, we can trade him for a better player.... again ?

Hard to say Laurie was a short term solution.

Any gotta have it today is short term.

Then it was a short term improvement as well as long term

IMO, Tigers wouldn’t have come 13th have we had kept Momo and not got Laurie…

Momirovski on the verge of leaving Panthers to potentially join fifth club in five years
Michael Chammas 6 hrs ago

Panthers centre Paul Momirovski is on the verge of signing with his fifth club in as many seasons after he was granted permission by the club to find a new home in 2022.

The grand final winner was one of the bargain buys of the year, cementing his place in the centres after joining the club from the Wests Tigers just before round one.

Momirovski still has another year to run on his deal at the Panthers, however his manager recently approached the club asking for permission to look around.

While the Panthers want to keep him, they don't want to stand in his way of a lucrative contract elsewhere and believe they have the depth to cover his exit.

The Sydney Roosters have expressed interest in luring him back to the club where he made his NRL debut in 2018, while the Sea Eagles and Warriors are also interested.

His potential release will also ease some financial stress on the Panthers as they look to hold on to some of their big name stars who will demand a hefty price tag as a result of the club's first premiership in 18 years.

Koroisau has recently been linked to a move to another club, which is why Penrith needs to work out how much salary cap space it needs to keep him, alongside Kikau and Edwards.

Momirovski, 25, burst into the NRL with the Roosters in 2018, moving to the Wests Tigers the following year to play under Ivan Cleary before the coach controversially left to join the Panthers.

Following an up and down first season at the Tigers, Momirovski was traded to the Melbourne Storm as part of a swap deal with Harry Grant for the 2020 season.

Momirovski returned to the Tigers in the lead up to the 2021 season but was released by the club in order for them to sign Daine Laurie from the Panthers a year early.

Now Momirovski could again be on the move, with his manager seeking an upgrade in his contract given the high level at which he performed for Penrith.

The Panthers have a shortage in the centres following the departures of Brent Naden and Matt Burton to the Bulldogs.

Cleary will move Stephen Crichton back to the centres from the wing next year, however Momirovski's potential release will leave a hole in the backline.

The Panthers have a big opinion of 19-year-old rookie Izack Tago, who they hope will fill the void if Momirovski was to land a deal elsewhere.

Tago, a St Marys junior, made his NRL debut in 2021 and played six games for the Panthers.

It probably won’t be us. If we’re serious about api k then signing momo would free up Panthers cap to upgrade api.

And no mention whatsoever of Forbes Ferrari. Debut like Zac Cini.

He's good enough for the Roosters, but not wanted here.
That's part of the reason that we are perennial cellar-dwellers.

One of the more overrated players this year. Looks good in top teams where they can defend his errors. IMO Talau would look as good if not better at Penrith for the same reason.

I’d take him back with ease...AJ/gildart/jtj doesn’t really fill me with confidence

It’s a terrible 3/4 line.

Yes I agree.
Robbo, Bellyache and Ivan all have poor eyes for talent.
