No Neil Pringle??? Geeezzzzzz

Suzie-Q, Pringle was also one of my favs, a great clubman and player, but he really played most of his footy in the 70s, first for Newtown between 1972 and 1974, and then at Balmain between 1975 and 1982.

PS besides, you were only a wee twinkle in your Dad's eye way back then…................

Hahahaha….All you Balmain boys fret not.....Mick Neil and the Gale Brothers were Western Suburbs Magpies loooong before they were Tigers.......

So to give some balance to Sirro's team....

Wests Magpies Team of the 80's ...well IMO anyway...

1. Wayne Smith
2. Warren Bolland
3. Brett Gale
4. Ross Conlan
5. Graham Mackey
6. Terry Lamb
7. Mick Neil
8. John Donnelly (C)
9. Allan Fallah
10. Bruce Clark
11. Bob Cooper
12. Cameron Blair
13. Jim Leis
14. Ron Giteau
15. Tom Arber
16. Paul Merlo
17. Terry Leabeater
18. Scott Gale

Sorry Geo, Brett and Scott Gale both attended Holy Cross Ryde and played all their club footy in the Balmain area. Both were signed by the Magpies when they left school.

None of them would make the side today.

Jack well ahead of McKinnon, Corowa easily in front of Ryan and Freeman ditto

Roach ahead of any prop since inception, Sironen easily and Elias, the most influential hooker that's ever played the game

Six starters is probably conservative. People often forget that Hanley's God was money and for mine does not deserve to be considered among guys that were loyal and committed, no matter how good his 7 or 8 games were

Hmm what about Hanley and Schofield? Even though they only played for Wests in 1989\. I remember when I was about 8 or 9 I was at Campbelltown Stadium and we smashed Norths I think it was and Schofield and Hanley killed them. I also remember they were supposed to show up to my school so we could get autographs BUT THEY NEVER SHOWED UP!!! :imp:

Nice work Geo…but sorry to say, that side would be seriously PUMPED!. :sunglasses:

What about the Balmain team of the 90's VS Western Suburbs team of the 90's?

Remember Wests had some really good players in the early 90's.

Ummm correct…However they both played for the Magpies in first grade ...In Brett's case 59 games...Scott 16 before he went to the Roosters then Balmain...

The great Blocker was an Illawarra junior....Does that make him a Steeler...

Amazing though the actual links both clubs have in commen....Just have to look at Sirro's team...

Brett Gale was not the best and was rather slow. T. Cogger in the centres.

In addition, I think a place could be found somewhere for Alan Neil. What about Biblja and Brendan Tuuta? Bob Linder? John Macarthur on one of the wing spots? What about Leo at the back?

The memories of standing on the hill at Lidcombe and then Campbelltown. Gold.

You would have to have Lee Crooks in that side (replace Blair). Cogger on the bench. Alan Neil at half.

Absolute BULLS**T…

Paul Sironen was easily the most destructive ball runner in his prime...
Steve Roach has in spades what some of our forwards lack the most in out&out aggression...
Wayne Pearce was a non-stop tireless worker & one of the fittest blokes to ever play the game...

And then we have the internationals in that team..
The 3 above + Ben Elias, Garry Jack, Tim Brasher... for Australia...
Then there was the 'Wiz' Gary Freeman for the Kiwis...
And Ellery Hanley & Gary Schofield for the Brits...
\
\
Totally agree but i think our backline today is better...
