Penalty to Eels at the end

That could easily have just been a mistimed jump. This rule is going to be more judgement call than evidence as the year goes on.

Tough one for the Ref's to get 100% right IMO.
I don’t think it matters whether it’s intentional or not. If you interfere with an opponent and prevent them having a fair chance at the ball it’s a penalty surely?

No, I’m saying I understand why the decision was made even though I didn’t agree with the ruling. It’s like an lbw in cricket - you may disagree with the decision but you understand why it was given out. Ice is in front of Bula. Ref thought Bula touched it and Ice regathered from an offside position. I understand how he reached that conclusion. I just don’t think he was correct.

I don’t know about manipulation. That suggests some grander conspiracy. I think some teams get a better run than others based on how they’re travelling at the time or where they’re playing. We’ve conceded over 10 penalties in the two away games we’ve played and three in the one home game.

Something like offside or whether a player touches the ball is always tricky because it depends on where the official is and what they observe from that viewpoint.
See your point mate. Just sometimes certain decisions make you think twice !
Anyway, we’re winning so we’ll just enjoy that. Cheers.

Don’t get me wrong - I think overall we’ve gotten shafted more times than we’ve been helped by poor decisions. Whether that’s a conspiracy, subconscious bias, bad luck or voodoo curse is open to individual interpretation.

i have never seen a team lose in this fashion …other than the Tigers v Cowboys … and I’ve been watching the game 40 years
I still feel for BJ (or was it Luch) Leilua who wasn't awarded that try.

When you need momentium and to have that try not awarded was just very hard.

Glad to see us win against Parramatta.
Man the Heart attack games are back!

Possible that was the outcome of the contact...

To think Harper jumped in the air looking 'only' to grab Bulas arm is a bit far fetched
(Especially since it's Harper)

Went up with an arm up at a chance something would come of it... And made contact no doubt.
Harper also following the ball from the underneath, Much less chance of getting close.

I saw nothing in it, certainly not a penalty.
If the exact situation was reversed here - I have little to no doubt there'd be as many arguments the other way....
In fact - If I cared to, I could probably find some from previous games...
Haha You have no idea.
Who "went up"?
Harper... Sorry wrong again

Harper didn't even jump

He had one arm over Ice at first and then the other hand dragging at Bulas

I made sure my memory was correct as I'd only watched it live but just had another look... What I posted is what happened and nothing "far fetched" about it at all

Dont think it was on the same level as the Feldt one. I think Bula should do better in the catch as the is minimal interference from Harper. Letter of the law it was probably the wrong call, but it was not as blatantly wrong as the one a few years ago.
But as champion @innsaneink mentioned earlier, a Parra player (I think Sivo) was off-side at the restart so all bets should have been off.

I think it is quite simple, Harper is a low gutted cheating dog and I put him in the same category as Kyle Feldt.

This 'impeding the catcher' rule is going to be the murkiest rule of 2024. Can we honestly, without a shadow of doubt, say Harper wasn't trying to catch the ball?

In the Tupou incident- regardless of the Parra players actions- Tupou needs to get off the ground. Stationary & flinching away at the last minute- bad look. And I'm one of Tupou's bigger fans on here.
Yes u are right, Tupou need to get off the ground and also improve his ball handling skills. Still doesn’t excuse the crap ref call that penis-ini didn’t even look at the ball just went with the intention of putting tupou off. Hence why they changed the rule!

I’m not talking any penalty awarded at the end .. but in this manner which has now happened to us twice in 2 years..

taking the lead with seconds left ..attempting to then field a short kick and being penalised … the penalty yesterday should have gone our way…
My view- We need to practice it situationally as clearly our player positioning is quite poor. We need to nominate a catcher on either side and everyone else needs to remain behind him to grab the scraps or defend the loss of possession. Risking an escort or offside penalty in that situation is not smart, regardless of the refereeing.

Yes… not smart …

I thought touching the ball from a clearly offside position isn’t real smart at any time .. but particularly bad when you are leading by 1 point with 30 secs to go … this was from one of our most experienced players too…

Regardless,,, I still maintain that Bula was interfered with prior and the penalty should have gone our way ..

I tend to agree but it was probably a 50/50 and you can’t rely on those.

So he was just standing there flat footed?
I’ve watched it again too… I don’t agree.
You’ll need to learn to live with that.

This wouldn’t even be a conversation if the wests tigers weren’t so god awful at kick diffusing in general.

Sivo, about a meter or two
Hopefully Richo has clipped that up with the Cowboys one and sent it to the NRL asking for a please explain why some infringements aren’t being picked in these crucial situations.
