Peter Peters stood down for sexist gaffe

Media Beat up IMO
Yes what he said was the wrong thing to say but the Reporter laughed at it at the time, but he has 40 years of service to our great game and IMO he shouldn't be thrown over the coals for this

Political Correctness has gone over the top

He said no comment as the hearing was adjorned. She said have you got anything to say and he s replied yeah your a good sort…it was a light hearted quip if anything.

I was about to say the same thing, it is all about the entirity of the conversation, it was fine, it wasn't condescending in any way….i know those comments can be put that way, but this 1 wasn't

You're missing the point. She is an accredited journalist - she is entitled to be given some respect from people who occupy official positions at NRL clubs. As I understand it, the reporter was asking Glenn Stewart questions and PP thought it appropriate to make his comments. If you really think his intention was to pay a compliment you'll believe anything - he was trying to belittle her. It's really not hard to say nothing or no comment.

If he wants to say women are good sorts in his own time, fine. But nobody else is allowed to get away with rubbish like that when they are on the clock. If anyone of us was in a meeting with a stakeholder from another firm and said (twice) they were pretty damn hot, we'd be getting a long chat followed by a pink slip.

Ignore the actual words and focus on the circumstances. It was totally inappropriate and he deserves to be in strife.

Sure he could have come up with a better line than he did but the context was that he had already stated no comment for obvious reasons and was chased for a comment anyway. It was an ill-informed throw away line…

Then again my bias towards the putrid profession of journalism may be getting in the way here.

The guy's been an arrogant pig for the several decades. It was overdue for his attitude to come back and bite him.

Barnaby Joyce wrote a piece a few months back titled ["You're a good sort, I must avert my eyes before you slap me"](http://barnabyisright.com/2011/06/17/youre-a-good-sort-i-must-avert-my-eyes-before-you-slap-me-barnaby-on-political-correctness/)

I haven't seen the clip, so I don't know the context or tone. I call men _good sorts_ - to me it applies to character and/or appearance. Am I belittling them? Certainly not.

This seems to have been an ill-timed remark by Peters, an opportunity to beat up a story by the media and a knee-jerk reaction by the Manly board.

No-one comes out looking good - not even Megan whatsy.

I get what you are saying, and understand that many times people say that sort of stuff to be disrespectful. I think in this case it was fine.

They said no comment about half a dozen times (to a number of reporters), and she said c'mon give me something (cant remember exactly what she said, but it was words of this effect)

Smiled and said you are good sort, and she smirked as well, knowing they were not going to give any quotes.

it really was a non event, the reporter clearly wasn't insulted, huge beat up

Hope he loses his job over it….as a media mgr it does take our game back a step in regards to the work the game does in its attitudes to women etc....it was stupid timing of him.

Why is it OK to be complimentary but its not OK to speak the truth sometimes, ie: "Youre fat" or "Youre ugly"?

Plenty of good sorts at my work too.....but I keep that opinion to myself

Since when has it been an offence to compliment a woman on her beauty?

Sleazy… Maybe, but I don't think it's sexist. All the same, it's funny because it happened to a Manly official. I'm waiting for Zorba to wax lyrical in the paper tomorrow that even women are against Manly.

She asked him a question about the case and that was his response. It is an insult to her integrity. He should have just said "no comment."

Excellant post

Im usually very un-PC, but I really cannot stand Zorba most of the time so I think my view on this is skewed a little…its confusing.

Gary, I wasn't challenging the ill-timing of the comment, I'm challenging the thread title that his comment is sexist.

It was a sleazy and inappropriate response to a serious question.

No worries.

There are other issues with Peters. He is responsible for their marketing and has taken this "everyone hates manly" to far. There is a minority of manly fans and players who believe the nrl has an agenda against manly and use it as a defence for irresponsible actions. They take no responsibility for their actions.

Just this week I have had to undergo a course at work on Bullying and Harrasment, yes in this PC world the fairer sex do seem to have the upper hand.
However when it comes to the Golden Greek who I listen to of a Sunday morning despite his Manly bias it was a major lack of professionalism.
In my work place we are not allowed to make sexist remarks according to the course that we underwent, I certainly don't make those comments myself as my wife would have my b#$%^ or what would be left of them.
Zorba is 60+ years of age and to make a comment like that to a person young enough to be his Grand Child is bordering on paedophilia.
A very inappropriate comment and an attack on the reporters skill in being objective to the Manly scum.
