BLUE Wiggle Anthony Field remembers the ‘Tank’.

And thankfully, he isn’t alone.

Six years after Wests Tigers winger Taniela Tuiaki was left disabled by rugby league, a group of fans have launched a fundraiser to help pay for his latest round of medical bills.

Currently being circulated via Facebook and Twitter, the group is hoping to raise $10,000 for the 33-year-old, who still experiences a range of problems with the ankle he wrecked in 2009.

Tuiaki received limited compensation - and is yet to receive a benefit night as promised - after being retired in the season he was crowned Dally M Winger of the Year.

Only recently, X-rays have revealed the retired Aucklander needs further surgery on his damaged ankle.

A noted Tigers fan, Field is the biggest name to have committed to the public fundraiser, which is also calling on Wests Tigers and the NRL to match them dollar for dollar.

“As fans, we looked at Taniela’s story in the newspaper and thought ‘what a disgrace’,’’ fundraising organiser Carla Sindel said.

“Players like him, they’ve been let down by the system.

“Unfortunately, you hear people comparing Taniela to Alex McKinnon or even Simon Dwyer; saying ‘well, he isn’t really that bad compared to them’.
“But still, Alex McKinnon is different to Simon Dwyer. And Simon is different again to Taniela.

“But surely that doesn’t mean they don’t all still count?”

Which is why, on Tuesday afternoon, this Tigers fan reached out to the winger she once cheered from the hill at Leichhardt Oval.

“I reached out via Twitter,” Sindel said.

“Told him how there were plenty of fans like myself who wanted to help.

“And he was completely blown away by that. Couldn’t believe it.

“Since then we’ve had all the Wests Tigers players spreading our message on social media.

“Robbie Farah, Aaron Woods, Mitchell Moses, Chris Lawrence , the whole side basically.
“We’ve also asked if the NRL will match whatever we raise but I haven’t heard back yet.”

Anthony Field has also donated.

“In a game creating the money that rugby league does, it shouldn’t be up to fans to do something. But if it needs to be done, we will.”

Only recently, Men of League donated $1000 to Tuiaki - which he used for a bond on his rental property in Darwin, where he now works at a Youth Detention Centre.

It’s understood the charity organisation, who each year helps hundreds of leaguies from all levels of the game, has also worked behind the scenes to assist the former Tiger with his financial affairs.

Meanwhile, the RLPA has politely declined to detail what support they had given the former Tiger.

“We never discuss what we provide to any player,’’ a spokesperson said.

“But we do support players financially as well as with advice and guidance ... and we have been in contact with Taniela.”

**Tigers CEO Phil Moss, who only recently took over the role, is also looking into the situation.**

I would be happy to kick in a chunk of Cash especially if it gets Registered Charity status.
