Pies : Where do you buy your favourite and what is it

Meant to post this last week

Had a Thai Chicken Pie at Pomona on the Sunshine Coast hinterland at a book shop /coffee shop /bakery opposite where they have the markets

The place is called "A Touch of the Past "

Very nice

Supposedly the sausage rolls are to die for as well but they had sold out

If anyone has been to the Riverina area, the Ganmain pies are sensational, the Britton family make these pies and they only used to produce them in Autumn through to Spring…..

Also the bakery in Bright Vic are superb also, with a variety of flavours.....

There is a place called Harry's Pies in Newcastle.
Think there is one in Syd too…

They do the mash / peas pie combo.
Been loving that lately.

They also do a killer chilli dog.

Cant believe I missed this thread.

Yatala Pie Shop is the best. Nothing fancy, just a Pie which you can have served with Peas, Mash & Gravy, they have a two lane drive-thru if your in a hurry, or plenty of seating on the deck or at the picnic tables around the gardens.

I also enjoy making a good Shepards Pie - You must use Hogget/Mutton and slow cook the muscle for 6-8 hours and it must have a pastry base.

And nothing beats making your own Party Pies for when the boys come over for the footy - Braise up some beef cheeks in red wine and add some caramelised onions.

I will definately not buy/eat a pie that has a puff pastry base. This is a big no no. Shortcrust Pastry is the only base for a pie!

Best pies ever come from Tigermama's kitchen. Family loves them. On the menu, once a week

damn they sound delish

what kind of pies?

All kinds pHyR93\. Basic steak n kidney, chicken pies, potato pies… I make a lot of Gourmet pies eg. Curry pies, Nacho pies vegetarian ones too like Feta and spinach. The family really love the Lamb and Rosemary with minted mashed peas in the bottom of it.
They also love the Bacon and Egg breakfast pies.
I bake some yummy sweet pies too. Leftovers are great for turning in to pies too. Yummo :stuck_out_tongue:

TM,do you serve them with mash, peas and gravy…"delicious"....

Sometimes TT. Other times i put the peas, and gravy in the pie with the mash baked golden brown on top, and we have it with a salad or veggies.

1\. Abattoir Blues Cafe, Sydney Olympic Park
2\. The Welcome Hotel, Rozelle
3\. Upper Crust Pies, Collaroy
4\. Harrys Cafe de Wheels, Liverpool
5\. the big pie shop off the freeway in Goulburn

I like my pies

Best I have ever had was in NZ. Place called Sheffield driving from Christchurch to Arthur's Pass. Pastry was unbeatable. Almost worth going to NZ just for these pies.

Thats the one I mentioned in my last post !
They're great, there is one here in Newcastle.
Only complaint is they're on the smaller side.

The hot dog de wheels is my fav,
which is the opposite.
Too big if anything!

Beefys pies on the sunny coast qld. Chunky beef with black pepper my favourite. Just smashed two of them and full as a fat ladies sock.
Might have a little room for a schooner or three!!

Know these two have been mentioned but Fredos at Fredrickton and the Berry pie shop are damn good. Also the old Tuncurry pie shop, which i think has moved to Forster, made an awesome oyster pie among other sorts.
