For a contract to be registered the team must be under the cap & have clear cap projection of being under for each season the contract is registered.

For the club to formally announce a deal it must be registered by the NRL & 10 day period cleared.

How does any club get this close to the season start before finding out that they are over the cap and have to can players?
Do they have their accounts done by a Year Three schoolkid

They didn't necessarily release him because of cap issues. He was probably told that he wasn't in immediate contention for first grade and so (given he's now 30) he decided to go looking for a better shot and we released him to pursue an opportunity. Seems like we were probably just doing the decent and honourable thing in circumstances where it wasn't likely to have any real negative impact on us on the field.

From what i heard JT threw a cup of Pee at him and said he had taken hits from bigger guys than Rod - so Rod clocked him - i'm surprised the Lurker didn't know the full story.
