Blake re-signs with Panthers

THE Panthers have announced that exciting young talent Waqa Blake has signed a two-year extension with the club.
\
\
The 22-year-old has agreed to terms on a new deal that will see him remain at the club until the end of the 2019 season.

Blake is thankful for the opportunity to remain with the club and is looking forward to beginning preparations for the season ahead.

“I am truly blessed to have the opportunity to stay with the Panthers,” Blake said.

“I loved this club from the moment I first arrived and the direction we’re heading now is really exciting.

“I want to thank the members and fans for their support because playing for them is an honour.”

Panthers executive GM Phil Gould is proud of how far Blake has come since joining the club in 2012 and is glad to have secured the youngster to a long-term deal.

“Waqa’s story is a great one,” said Gould.

“He has progressed through the grades, improving every season, and is now a valuable member of our NRL team.

“Waqa’s best football is still ahead of him. He is an outstanding athlete and I believe he is a high level representative player of the future.

“We are so excited he has committed to our club for the next three seasons.”

VIDEO: Blair gets levelled by Hood

SCOTLAND have received plenty of plaudits for their efforts against the Kiwis, and rightly so.

A monumental draw against the top-ranked country in the world is worthy of celebration, and this bone-crushing hit from hooker Liam Hood on Adam Blair sums up their efforts this tournament.

A 60-metre line dropout is noteworthy enough, but the shot that followed is certainly worth watching again.

Looking at what we have signed so far Jamal could be good value if he hits his old form , the guy from Cronulla is back up , then we look at what we let go and I can see that the club is maybe looking to lock up Teddy , Mosses , Woods , Brooks , ET , this would be a solid group for other players to look at coming over to us in 2018 , 2017 I think the club is thinking we missed out on the semis by one game , probably droped 3 games we should have won so play out 2017 with only Jamal as the new guy who should add to our defence and attack , then if we do grab a top 8 other quality players may take us serious and look to move over , we should have some funds ready to spend , and we will remove more players not up to top grade standards freeing up a bit more cash , we are probably only 2 good quality players of top 4 , Hard running back rower , and a player who can kick goals / play wing or centre , we should also look at 2017 with no Taylor Farrah rubbish , Sirro gone so that's Finished , and if the boys are all on the same page we will shake it up again .

Hope the guys train the house down in the off season

Agree with what you saying except on the ET issue.

He was a Penrith reserve grade player, he was good when he first come across and then i thought his form dropped towards the end of the season. i think he is good player to have but i don't think other players will be signing with us because he is here.

I do agree that the others however are a lure.

I just might get pounced on for saying this but I wouldn't mind ET having a crack at 6\. But I just wished Teddy had some sort of general kicking game in him.

JUMP! No way.

That said, I'm sure he'd do a good job if we had injuries.

I suppose we still have to sign him up first….but a go in the trials for him wouldn't be the worst option.

No not pounced :stuck_out_tongue:

And move moses to 7 and do what with brooks? if during a game there was an injury maybe you would consider it but he is a lock or even maybe a second row but not a 6\. i get you are referring to his ball playing and defence but he is to slow and would become too predictable.

BIRD BIDDING KICKS OFF

The fight for NSW Origin star Jack Bird is under way.

Market Watch can reveal the young star has eight clubs including his own vying for his prized signature.
\
\
Newcastle and the Gold Coast aren’t among the eight but Market Watch understands they could soon join them.

Both teams wouldn’t rule out making a play for the young star and are monitoring his movements but the Sharks have been told they will be given the final right of reply when it comes to any deal Bird is considering.

A premiership winner at the age of 21, the Sharks will need to pay market value for the 2015 Dally M rookie of the year which will start at around $600,000 and could reach as high as almost $1 million-a-season.

It’s understood Bird is negotiating with rival clubs as a fullback, five-eighth and lock with his journey in the centres not likely to continue unless he stays on at the Sharks.

Centre is now regarded as one of the lowest paid positions by the game’s best recruiters but due to his versatility, Bird is an exception to that line of thinking.

The Sharks have several top line players off-contract including Valentine Holmes, Chad Townsend and Wade Graham.

The club has made no secret of making Bird and Holmes their priority re-signs with negotiations well under way to extend the pair.

Holmes is expected to move into the No.1 following the release of Ben Barba and is asking for a substantial pay rise with his time on the wing now over.

On tour with the Australian Test side, Holmes can also expect offers in excess of $600,000.

PANTHERS’ NEXT TARGET

Dallin Watene-Zelezniak — you’re next.

This week Waqa Blake extended his stay with the Panthers, a deal Market Watch revealed three weeks ago, and while the club has already re-signed the majority of their hottest young talents, they aren’t finished yet.

New Zealand international Watene-Zelezniak is next on their list with the speedy winger eyeing a two-year extension which will keep him at the club until the end of 2019.

A speed demon who can also play fullback, the 21-year-old made his Test debut in the Anzac Test earlier this year.

LEWIS LEFT IN LIMBO

Luke Lewis has been left in contract limbo.

The 2016 Clive Churchill Medal winner is still without an NRL deal for next season but Sharks fans need not panic just yet, Market Watch understands Lewis reached out to club management earlier this week in order to speed up the process.

What makes things even more interesting is that Lewis is without a manager and representing himself.

While the former Origin star announced in August he would be staying on with the Sharks in 2017, the backrower never put pen to paper.

Lewis is yet to see a contract or iron out the finer details of his proposed one-year extension but if all goes according to scrip, the 33-year-old should have a deal lodged with the NRL on Friday.

A veteran of the game, Lewis is still playing as well as ever and is understood to want to play on beyond next season.

Despite his desire to keep going, he is comfortable with signing 12 month extensions at this stage of his career.

Both parties hope to have a deal signed off on by the end of the month, in time for when Lewis is due to return for pre-season training.

ROOSTERS GIVE OPPORTUNITY

The Roosters have handed former Wests Tigers lock Brenden Santi a one-year-deal.

The former Italian international spent two seasons with the Tigers, making his NRL debut in 2014 before he moved to Townsville in 2016 to play for the Blackhawks.

A former Australian Schoolboys representative, Santi is a Bulldogs junior who played NYC with the Tigers.

TRAIN AND TRIAL

He was Mitchell Pearce’s understudy for the past two seasons, now Tyler Cornish is training for a contract with the Titans.

Like Cameron Cullen did last year, before netting a one-year-deal, the former Roosters half has joined the Gold Coast pre-season for an opportunity.

Having spent the last two years playing for the Roosters’ feeder team Wyong in the NSW Cup, Cornish was replaced by his older bother Mitch by the Tricolours for 2017.

***

RAIDERS OFFER OPPORTUNITY

Cronulla backrower Anthony Moraitis has joined Canberra on a full-time train and trial deal until February.

A standout for Newtown in the Intrust Super Premiership NSW, the recipient of the Jets’ Coach’s Award was part of Cronulla’s NRL squad in 2016 but was not offered a new deal for 2017 which prompted the trial with the Raiders.

Similar to Dave Taylor, he will need to impress the Raiders’ staff before the club makes a decision on whether or not to keep him on next season.

***

MOSELEY MOVES NORTH

Kierran Moseley at Titans training.Kierran Moseley at Titans training.Source: News Corp Australia
Gold Coast hooker Kierran Moseley has signed with North Queensland feeder team Townsville for season 2017.

The 22-year-old made his NRL debut for Penrith back in 2014 before moving to the Titans but was not offered a new deal for next season.

Moseley made just four appearances in the top grade this season, taking his NRL tally to 21 and has joined the Blackhawks after failing to secure an NRL contract.

Moseley will battle it out with former Cowboy and Indigenous All Star Anthony Mitchell for the starting No.9 jersey next season.

SHHHHH

Which Sydney club is shopping some of their higher-paid players thanks to the pinch of the salary cap?

This club has gone to the length of finding one of their outside backs a new home with a non-Sydney based team but the player refused to leave after recently purchasing a new home.

The player isn’t off-contract in 2017 either, so they’re stuck with him, unless they can find a team in Sydney who will take him on.

I wonder how much of Siro's salary we are paying in 2017 & 2018.

Siro took the 2 year option he had on his contract with us for 1 reason only…...to protect his salary for the next two years regardless of whether he was playing NRL or NSW Cup.

Manly picked him up cheap IMO.....and at our expense again.

Watching Siro in the NSW semi's.....we haven't lost much....some of those other guys had it all over him.

He had better improve quickly otherwise he can expect to play alot of time in NSW cup again at Manly.

Massive NRL Signing News Involving Kalyn Ponga

Triple M understands hot Cowboys rookie Kalyn Ponga will sign a five-year deal worth three million dollars with the Newcastle Knights.

Ponga is only 18-years old and it will be the richest deal for a teenager in NRL history.

The deal will start from 2018 but the Knights and Cowboys are having a discussion about him joining the struggling club next year and North Queensland are open to negotiation.

It’s believed Newcastle beat six NRL clubs including the Broncos, Titans, Dragons, Parramatta, Bulldogs, and Storm to secure the young gun.

Ponga's only played two NRL games, making his debut for the Cowboys in the 2016 finals series. His preferred positions are fullback and five-eighth. Watch the video below.

It's been a bad day for the Cowboys. Earlier, Origin and Australian Test forward Ben Hannant announced his retirement due to a chronic knee injury.

Whoever is advising the kid has rocks in their heads

18 year old going to a club going nowhere with little or no experience to take any pressure off him

Not saying he'd be much better off at the WT's but Newcastle ….

Good luck , you'll need it

That will work out a good buy for them, they really need some flair in their back line. Better than them buying Todd Carney to play fullback.

Lot of cash for a young fellow , but you never know
I'm a supporter who thinks Todd Carney will make a come back and may well go good , I always give people a chance and he moved on before with negative reasons but some players are still in the top grade who have done IMO nastier things , if he can get back into the NRL , good luck to him , I would have him at the Tigers for reasons as follows
Can kick goals
Can play half , five eight , and also be a bench player
Most on here will say no and fair enough , but if cheap I would sign him
Mosses could leave for big coin , then we start looking for replacements , this bloke will , if he gets a start be on his last chance , and could fill that spot with ease and cheap
