Playing negative

sorry about above key board went hay wire.
meant to say we only do one out hit ups and a bomb we could have aussie back line and would make no difference.

come on… Lawrence and Hoeter couldnt bust a grape, Simona and Noffa were busting tackles and making breaks on their returns from injury.

Not purely at you BP, though the Taylors hate is strong in some of you. It is understandable, yet extremely exaggerated to the point of being a running joke.

Pretty sure just about every commentator is saying that you need good defence first and then attack will follow…..........the Saints are a clear example of turning things around, concentrating on defence and then everything else has followed.

Best defence and even after yesterday's big win, still the 5th worst attack........only 5 points more than us....

Dragons have Benji Marshal who can turn the game at any moment. Wests Tigers don't have anybody like that at all. When they finish their boring first four or five tackles they don't have a game breaker to pass the ball too. At least not at the way Taylor has them currently playing. They can play defensively until the cows come home but tries will be few and far between (and so will the fans).

The tries with the Dragons were few and far between. They haven't scored, on average, much more than us and before yesterday, they had scored a lot less.

Has Benji really turned games around? or is he merely playing within himself now rather than going for miracle plays? He's had 5 try assists this year.

It's been pretty clear they've been relying more on their defence rather than their attack.

Yes they are relying on their defence however, Mary has allowed them to move the ball around and try to make the plays lately. You watch Dragons move the ball it is one side to the other and some of the trick plays/set plays they come up with are magnificent to watch.

An example of Defence being no1 however with an attack to compliment it. They don't go into their shells they are trying to do something not 5 tackles and a bomb. They arent the biggest team, they know that and their way of rectifying this is to try and move the ball around and spread the play, something that we, with our small pack, should be doing as well. Not trying to say that our defensive structures are hindering us from playing a more expansive attacking game, that is absolute BS no one is buying that crap from JT, and if you are you are deadset in La La land. Don't sacrifice one to better the other, Defence is good but it means a whole lot of nothing if we don't have some attack to compliment it.

Be interesting to see how Taylor has them playing this week. The Titans are a very good attacking team and gave us a touch up in the corresponding game last year. They will ask a lot more question than either the Knights or the cowboys did and they will defend us all day if we try to bore them to death as in previous weeks.

Hard to see us getting close but maybe Taylor has actually had them playing some football at training, although I think we are going to see the same game plan with the same results

The Dragons aren't scoring machines and have only scored 5 more points than us over the course of the year.

We have lost big leads…..........clearly there's a problem with our defence

Besides 2010/2011, what the Tigers have been doing has not been working well enough to give the side any consistency. Is it currently boring to watch? yes, but clearly there's some sort of plan, something they are trying to build up to or is JT some sort of 5th columnist working to disrupt the Tigers from within and kill the club?

I'm willing to give it a bit more than 11 damn rounds and if we had been completely smacked in the majority of games this year I'd be more inclined to be on the "dump JT bandwagon", but we've at least been in all the games bar the Roosters...............most unlike us in the first 11 rounds.

This for Happy ..not a setup ..just interested in your thoughts

Looking at the replay of Cowboys game and the bombs we put in the air it seemed the plan was to not chase hard and get to Coote.. but rather hold back and approach in a straight line. Am thinking the reason for this was to stop coote from running forward to catch and gain momentum to break the first tackles and return the ball with big metres and make sure the next few hit ups were met with a solid straight wall of defence.

Look I will answer that as an ex fullback Snow

The balls you hated the most were the ones that were directed over your shoulder closer to the winger

You were then having to worry about where you were running , where the winger was , possibly where the sideline and dead ball were and all while this possibly looking over your shoulder running at speed looking into the sun or the lights if a night game and hoping a gust of wind wouldn't shift its line too much

Then if the kick was deep enough you had to turn and get your ass out of the in goal and try and get back mid field to give your team a chance to attack from either side of the field and get some field position

That's why looking at Taylor as an ex half and a bloke who used to put up some pretty effective bombs himself to say the least would be thinking "What does Coote really not want to do ?? "

And that's why I find it inconceivable that he wants the kicks in the centre of the field , firstly you want to try and get the opposition wasting a tackle or two to get in a position where the defence can't predict exactly where they will run because they can't do anything bar go left or right and play the open side

Half of our problem with our kicks is our lack of field position when we kick , which is affected by the fact we couldn't pin the opposition in their own half

So in the long run it still comes back to our lack of line speed and our inability to win the ruck defensively

Just about everything in rugby league bar the actually scoring of points comes back to your defence

Ex fullback lmao !
Looks like Shearer , played like Moltzen

Geez, this is getting like Balmain v Wests posts.

No-one is saying that our defense has been good enough. We all agree that it HAS to improve.

What a lot are saying is that we shouldn't have to ignore a reasonable attacking structure either. Why should we have 5 hit-ups and a bomb just because our defense isn't up to scratch?
