Its a very frustrating time in politics with these people leaving parties they were elected from.

Whats more funny is Cory is forming a Conservative Party bank-rolled by Gina Rinehart… I'm not to sure how conservative she will be, and its for certain she wont be conservative around dinner time?!

Not quite across the Senate voting system, I know there's the quota system voting above the line, but you can also vote by candidate below the line, are any Senate candidates ever voted in directly by votes below the line?

If so, Bernadi has a right to stay in the Senate. If he was given a seat as part of the Liberal quota, he should have to give up his seat and the Libs should be able to place another senator.

On micro parties and candidates leaving, it's starting to show that not only the electorate are disillusioned with the ALP and LNP. It seems as though currently it is limited to the right wing, but in saying that it is not a bad thing that the likes of Christensen AKA Peter Griffin and Bernadi are splitting from the Libs, they might actually go back to being a liberal party in whole rather than a conservative party that is liberal only in name. Hopefully they take Abbott, Abetz and Dutton with them. The religious right is destroying that party.

The electorate is still missing a party with a viable centrist platform.

Australian politics is a mess at the moment. There are no statesmen anymore, just opportunists engaging in a game of race-to-the-bottom politics.

He was 2nd in order of priority for the Libs so as long as they got more than 16.6% of the senate vote in SA he was getting a seat in the senate on the back of his party. He's a foul opportunist and a hypocrite.

So he got in off the back of the Libs quota. He should lose his seat if he leaves the party. I know that's not the way it works, but that is how it should be. Lambie did the same thing to Palmer IIRC. Used his resources to get a seat and then dumped him like a bad habit.

Yeah but it is rather disingenuous to use his money to get elected and then shaft him because he expects her to tow the party line. Most parties behave like that, and candidates know what is expected of them when they sign on and use the parties resources to gain election.

"Conservative" in the political sense means a) small government, b) lower taxes, and c) less government regulation.

I'd say someone in Gina's position would be extremely conservative when it comes to politics, seeing as how her interests are championed specifically by the above-mentioned Conservative philosophy.

Most business owners, both small businesses and large corporations, are generally conservative leaning when it comes to politics. Gina would be no exception.

Out of interest and since no one has really commented on him since he became PM, is anyone happy with how Turnbull is conducting himself as the leader of our country?

Ftr I think he is a heartless tyrant, who is totally out of touch with battling Australians. I'm disappointed on so many levels, as I thought he would've made a good PM especially after debacle that was Tony Abbott. Now I'm almost wishing Abbott was back and that's just ridiculous! This popular belief that businessmen would make great PMs or Presidents is utter crap, imo. What do others think of dear Malcolm? I know Happy was a big advocate at one stage - have you changed your opinion now Hap or is he still your 'golden boy?'

Any respect i had for Turnbull disappeared when he started waving a piece of coal around at parliament last week saying it was the way forward. He has abandoned every principal he supposedly stood for republic/global warming just to name a few to appease his right wing backbenchers.A total disaster bring on the next election.

South Australia could do with a piece of coal.

Global warming? Climate change? What a crock.

When winter arrives, I suppose it will be global cooling?

I understand completely what is happening.

Latest poll shows that the MAJORITY of Aust. and other people around the world are waking up to the crap put out by the wealth distributors.

If we shut down the whole of Australia in regards to emissions, it would make NO difference.

So it seems that you are happy to charge your fellow Australians the highest electricity prices in the world for no benefit ( or as in South Australia and soon to be in Victoria, no electricity at all).

Good one.

I have always known it as climate change and apart from the heat which all of us have been experiencing, the extreme weather events shown on my screens and frequency seem to bear this as fact, but at least you have written a reasonable number of words in this post Col. Could you please provide some information about the poll you refer to?

Oh dear, really? 1 heatwave doesn't = climate change, most people know that. A century of increasing temperatures and other evidence unequivacble points to human-caused climate warming.

I think that we need to reduce our emissions from power stations. Time to build nuclear power plants.

Should also be looking at dams and desalination plants piping water inland to create more fertile farming land.

City's are heating up due to building consolidation, appartments ,massive housing developments ,badly designed infrastructure, huge metal usage ,concrete, deforestation all these add to the increased temperature in modern city's .
My generation grew up in the non air conditioned era ,no air cons ,no fans no heating ,timber floors in our schools.
Yes it is hot and yes a big scope it is summer and for the last 2 or 3 summers it has been relatively mild,we as our parents get a big laugh at how soft the younger generations are and blame this garbage of global warming..which now has been proved false.
If the younger generations want renewable energy good luck to them they will be living in a third world country that cannot produce base load power to run anything …the sad thing about this whole energy rubbish is you have a whole state that wants renewable energy that is not supplying the power that is needed to run the state so what happens our NSW power has to be shared with these morons so they can continue there life style .
This is Australia the land of the sunburnt country toughen up !

Tradesmen up here working out doors are nearly dying on the spot, they are walking off jobs, suffering dehydration etc.. These guys in fifties and sixties and swear summers are much hotter. They are not young softies.

Human nature has not changed in that many choose to refuse to accept any change that will impact on their cushioned life style or selfish world view. Without decent leadership of course we will all sink together, not fair to those more aware and more community minded whom want to address the problem facing future generations. The ignorant and selfish bogans have won.
