Yeah sorry about the numbers That was reported on Sunrise as a preliminary figure that was texted from inside Labor can't even get that right

There's go to be method behind the madness there surely. He wouldn't have quit cabinet on a whim.

Anywho, looks like unless there's No Beer & Petrol Tax party candidate or a decent Independent in my electorate next election I think I will be joining Smeg and parting with a cool five hunjy, or at the very least submitting an informal vote with my colourful assessment of the current state of Australian politics.

Regardless of who is the leader of these parties, we must vote for someone at the next election and that is what keeps these monkeys in office… So sadely, 80% of Australians are gona vote left or right, and we will again be left with 20% of this countries population deciding who runs the country. :crazy

**Time to overhaul the whole Electoral process... Lets start with abolishing Compulsary Voting!!!** :brick:

Or we could act like we are in Egypt??? :smiling_imp:

I'm all for that, Watto! We are supposed to be a democracy, but how democratic is it, really, when you are told you _have_ to vote at every election and are fined heavily if you don't?

It's because 2 Rudd votes initially went into the Gillard pile. Not the ALP's fault the SMH jumped the gun!!

I wouldnt go donkey voting…we need this lot out and we have to make sure of it. Here's an interesting thought...

The six leading members of the Government, from Gillard down, have a collective work experience of 181 years, but only 13 in the private sector. If you take out of those 13 years the number that were spent as trade union lawyers, 11, only two years were spent in the private sector.

So out of those 181 years:

- no years spent running their own business
- no years spent starting their own business
- no years spent as a director of a family business or a company
- no years as a director of a public company
- no years in a senior position in a public company
- no years in a senior position in a private company
- no years working in corporate finance
- no years in corporate or business restructuring
- no years working in or with a bank
- no years of experience in the capital markets
- no years in a stock-broking firm
- no years in negotiating debt facilities with banks
- no years running a small business
- no years at the World Bank or IMF or OECD
- no years in Treasury or Finance.

But these people have plunged Australia into unprecedented debt and they have the gaul to call it a 'temporary deficit'.....but they are Labor and people vote for them because Labor is good for the working family - right???

Where did you get the $500 figure from CB

When they buggered up mine (I actually voted in Toowoomba ) about ten years ago it was $30.00 fine

Mate just checked the AEC info and they send a letter out asking why you didn't vote and worst case its a $20 fine If you don't respond within 21 days its a $50 dollar fine

Lol "at unprecedented debt " ….. Our debt is amongst the lowest of any developed country in the world .

Also under Labor Govt is a service not a business , so business experience is irrelevant . How about measuring parliamentary experience wouldn't that be relevant ?

I'd treat a lot of these posts with a grain of salt - many of them are full of distortions and untruths. Gillard was a partner at Slater and Gordon for 5 years I believe. Far from being a "trade union" law firm it is a public traded company. Craig Emerson has worked for the UN…

But in any case it is hardly surprising that Labor leaning people are going to choose to find employment in labor friendly work environments. 80% of MPs from both sides seem to be lawyers anyway...

Unprecedented?

Notice how you never hear about high interest rates either these days… But somewhere there is someone looking for a stat to imply poor economic management even though Australia is probably the best performing economy in the world these days.

Didn't get the figure from anywhere. I made the assumption the fine for not voting would be a ridiculous amount, like skipping jury duty.

Even better now… I'll only part with a pineapple and have $450 left to piss away on the cardies since the ALP backflipped on the gambling policy. Thanks Julia!

ALCOHOL AND PETROL TAX FREE PARTY , WOULD GIVE US ALL SAY $ 100.00 PER WEEK IN THE POCKET , CANT HURT THE CURRENT BUDGET AS IT IS IN DEBT TO THE ROOF , SO WE MAKE HALF DOZEN CHANGES TO GOV JOBS , GET RIDD OF THE ADVISORS , ONLY HAVE 1 AND IF HE / SHE GETS IT WRONG PUNT THEM TO SHOULD SAVE COUNTRY LOADS OF CASH THAT WOULD OUT WAY OUR TAX FREE NESSETIES , ALMOST FORGOT FREE TANK OF FUEL AFTER YOU FILL UP 10 TIMES AND A FREE CTN BEER AFTER YOU PURCHASE 10 WE STILL WOULD NOT HURT THE BUDGET

Great example of why we shouldn't have compulsary voting.

I really hope that joking Andrew474, nearly all of it defies any logic.
