@BRET said:People need to realise it isn't the face you are voting for it is the party.
I will be voting Liberal.
And some advise to anyone wanting to 'take a stand' because neither choice in the main parties are desirable - please remember a vote for Greens is a vote for labour more or less. It takes no stand.

I am sick and tired of hearing or reading the old line "a vote for the Greens is a vote for Labor " (by the way there is no 'u' in Labor) I could vote for the Greens and give my preferences to the Liberal Party , so my 'Green' vote would end up a liberal vote , please stop the con .However I Will be voting Labor .

@MacDougall said:How the hell anybody could ever vote for the Liberal Party is beyond me. They serve a small minority of fatcats and give nothing to the common man. They are the closest one can get to feudal rule in Australia circa 2010\. I will be voting for the Australian Sex Party.

Exactly. A lot of rubbish is written about preference flows. Preferences are up to the individual voter!! Unless you vote above the line in the Senate the only "deal" being done is the order of numbering on the HTV papers.
It would be just as accurate to say a vote for Fred Nile's lunatic party is a vote for the Liberals…

Most people (85% the most recent calculations) will follow the recommended preferences given by the main party they are voting for. Greens are in bed with Labor, it is in both their interests to have the preferences reflect that. Yes, you could choose any order you wish, however most don't as they only want to follow the prompts of the main party they want to win, so they will jot down their 1234's according to the HTV paper given by who they are voting for. So most people are not choosing a preference at all - the main party is choosing.
