@hammertime said:Surely the independents should make their votes towards who polled 2nd in their electorate. They should listen to the people that got them there.
Coincidentally, that would leave us with a Liberal Government… :wahoo:

Not sure if you are being serious or not. So long as they don't join either party's government they can do what they want. They are independent after all.

Completely serious. Labor had a vote of ONLY 6% in one of the independents electorates. Surely if they were from a National party background and the Liberals still carry a decent First preference percentage, then they should be voting on their people's voice, not their own agenda.
One method is democratic, the other borders on communism.
@Yossarian said:Borders on communism  That actually gave me a laugh!! Well better check under the beds then eh?
You need to look at two things:
1 - If it was a straight ALP/Nat contest the ALP vote would be higher. There would be voters who would vote IND ahead of ALP but not for a NAT
2 - If they wanted a Coalition government they should have voted for a Coalition candidate!
Anyway they are elected as independents and they can do what they want.

1\. Labor
2\. Greens
3\. Socialist Alliance
4\. Liberal
5\. Family First (aka Nazi Party)

And how is this for ridiculous - when something goes past the GG and to the Queen, she makes her decision based on the advise of the current PM lol. So there goes that option.
@citizen cub said:I'm worried that now the Greens now control the balance of power in both the Senate and House of Reps. I can't believe people can be that stupid to vote for them. Their thought process is; 'stuff the big two parties, I'm voting for the Greens', but it just ends up going to Labor. There was about 8 to 9 seats where the Libs got a better primary vote, but the Greens then assisted Labor in winning the seat i.e. Reid. They are a threat to our economy, big businesses, small businesses and the mining industry. And now they want gay marriage, as Abbott rightly put it 'there are many great gay relationships', that's as far as it needs to go. They also want a 50% tax on mining, raise income tax and put a 50% on people earning over $1m and a DEATH tax! What planet are they living on!

Well said Cub. Their policies are insanely destructive. They want to completely annihilate Uranium and Coal. Raise the dole, raise business tax rates and capital gains tax. Massively increase Foreign Aid. Give the Indigenous population massive land rights. Subsidize Childcare completely. Get rid of private hospitals…. and that's just the start.
In one foul swoop, they would drive the Australian economy into severe recession. Their policies are just idealistic. It's like they have got some butchers paper and jotted down every PC idea without going through the consequences or costs.
