I said each case should be judged on its merits. The town where these people lived have been at the forefront in trying to keep them permanently there.
So? The town my friends lived in in SA loved our friends and they were contributing to the local community a hell of a lot more.
Each case should NOT be judged on its merits. There needs to be (and there is) clear rules regarding this so that everyone can make plans based on these rules. I genuinely feel sorry for this family and on the surface of it, I really feel for those kids, but their parents actually made the decision to have them intentionally with no residency or hope for residency in Australia. I feel for these people and there is a whole industry of "refugee advocates" encouraging them to get around the rules, but the people that get hurt are these kids.
I genuinely feel for these kids and this family, but if they are allowed to stay, against all the same rules that THOUSANDS of others have been judged against, I also feel for those thousands that have abided by the law and not been able to stay.
Unless you fully understand the situation that occurs in many of Central Qld towns when a project comes to town ....you'll never understand why people like this are so vital ....for example they sometimes are forced to close the Meatworks at Biloela because they can't man it ..many other businesses the same occurs ....the fast food businesses are forced to close their drive thrus because they can't man them
I really hate this argument. 'We need to import foreign labour because locals won't do it'.
It's an argument cynically pushed by corporate lobbyists to suppress wages. Most regional towns are screaming for JOBS, not imported workers.
Same as the constant harping on about unemployment. The LNP prefer to have un(der)employment as it also suppresses wages through competition for work. Then they go on to condemn the unemployed at the same time and demonise welfare recipients.
Talking out of both sides of their collective mouths.
Sadly, all major parties (the LNP, ALP/Greens) actively work on deindustrialisation of Australia, and this go back at least 40 years!
They simply do not care about farmers, blue-collar or mining jobs!
That I will agree with you on IBWT. The start of neo-liberalism started with the ALP through Hawke and Keating restructuring the economy. Ever since then it's been a shuffle offshore with manufacturing jobs. The LNP only care about mining companies, the hell with the workers.
I would love to see free energy in Australia via largescale renewables to bring back manufacturing. I would have said nuclear but that boat sailed 25 years ago.
