POLL: ESAN MARSTERS

I thought he was looking more involved after he lost the kicking tee.

I think he will come back from this season.

@Earl He is not below average. The hate for this guy has been unreal… Well and truly an agenda against him. On his day, this guy is a great centre. Yes he hasn’t enjoyed a great season, we get it.

On his day he might be a great centre but that happens extremely rarely. I don't think he had a great game all year. His defence is poor and he has a high mistake rate as well. He is a good runner of the footy inconsistently.

He can be a decent centre but not to the level of someone like Latrell Mitchell. If he got his game in order he could be as good as someone like Will Chambers. That is pretty good and that is why I would see how he goes up until his next contract.

@TigersBusDriver agreed. Irony is he is our joint leading try scorer despite not having the year he did in 2018. I cant get over all the people on here banging on about Curtis Scott or Ramien saying they are young despite both having dud seasons. Esan is also young, an international centre was great last year.

I agree with this. Those guys aren't a sure fire upgrade on Esan. Curtis Scott is a extremely low dollar value contract player. I think Ramien is the best player out of those three but he has been dumped from the Knights.

I voted to keep him - really second year syndrome. Will have to pick it up for 2020.

Not sure why people are talking him up as a second rower. He has never done anything to show me he could play that role. He would have to put on a few kgs and that would slow him down more than he is now. Also if he plays there he would have to run straight, something he has not done all year - all he has done this year is dance and jink around.

Needs to put in a lot of work for next year where ever he plays.

2nd year syndrome- marked more by oppositions. Also we played our attack down the opposite edge most of the year. That contributed to his poor season. Keep him, see what happens next year. If nothing changes - let him go.
Personally I think he is apathetic but I’m prepared to cut him some slack and see what transpires.

Give him a forward pack to make the metres and give the backs some room.
He has been stifled with no space.
Sharks game proved what our weakness was.
Their pack monstered us.

This guy is a Jarryd Hayne 2009 one hit wonder. Had a few good games last year and produced pure bile since. Throw him in the trash.

3. Momo
4. Mbye

That is all.

Quite an amazing turnaround in the voting on this one as it was sixty something percent boot him when I first looked at the thread and it was already on to the second page of comments.

This is a good point but we weren't monstered all season. Our outside backs performed poorly. Mbye didn't kick on and Thompson was hot and cold in the fullback role. Mbye did start to look good in the centres but then he was injured. Nofo was good. Momo was good but he didn't play many games.

You are right though that our forwards need to get on top and get a roll on for the halves and backs to do well in big games.

He has ability, I'd prefer to see what happens in 2020.

Is Esan like Star Trek films, good for the even outings and bad for the odd?

Yeah dunno. That would require me to watch a Star Trek film...

@MAGPIES1963 last year we saw Esan play strongly through the season. He showed form which was well regarded and we expected to see that extend into 2019. Not sure what happened this year. Maybe he didn’t respond well to the change of coach. I really can’t put my finger on it. Closer critics of the game and our roster may have an idea. He needs work in the pre season to find his game again and get back to being the solid first grader we could see in him. He needs to take a leaf out of Moses book and have an honest look at himself and see that it is up to him to decide what kind of player he wants to be. and what he wants to contribute to this team and it’s prospects for success.

@balmain-boy @Kazoo-Kid JAC joined us from Reserve Grade Cronulla having never played first grade. Before he played First Grade with us, in like Round 8 or 10 or so, he signed with Storm.

Our problem with him was that JT was playing Rankin on the wing, and didn't recognise JAC as the good finisher he could be. Before we gave him a chance, we lost him. Pascoe was on hols at the time, but Storm could offer him a place in their system and we couldn't compete with that.

Yes the JAC situation was very different to Marsters. If this Marsters rumours are correct, it reminds me more of Moses Suli.

So now people are blaming the forwards for Marsters poor season?
What next?
Our forwards were worse last year and he went ok.
Truth is he's bottomed out and doesn't look interested.
