Potter's contract

You are right, Eels didn't have players on $500k+ producing nothing, I mean they had Hayne on $650k and Sandow on $550k but they were value buys right?

Or their board had continually being overthrown each election. Remember 3P? Fitzgerald then Ozzy? Super secure Board status right there.

Their junior nursery being completely ignored for years and years?

Reality tends to be an equaliser. Thats why I subscribe to it, fantasy is nice but not great for winning arguments.

Yeah, might not be any better, but no idea how you can say its worse. Always the notion that we aren't always as critical and as brutally honest about our own problems as we are with other peoples

he has to see out the two years.

after two years, ask him what his future plans are.. where he sees us, when can he make us a genuine premiership thread. we have the young skilful players.. what can he do for us?

then. extend.

The minimum from Potter this year:
- player commitment on the field
- decent recruits for 14/15
- performance based team selections
- nurturing transition of rising stars
- consolidating halves
- mentoring a number of key players through form slumps
Doing his job basically. Which I think he's up to.

Potter is average at best. he does'nt command any respect from his players. There is no team boss,he appears weak & so does our team. Said he would pick players on form. Pettybourne gets a start in round 9, when the team has lost 6 in row. doe'nt sy mauch for off season buys. I agree let Toddy have crack at first grade. can't do worse we are dead last & unlikely to move from that spot for rest of the year.

Agree and disagree. Think its unfair to judge him on the season we've had so far for obvious reasons. As far as the respect he commands, word has it he's being paid peanuts. Would have to be hard to an extent to demand respect from some guys who are earning probably triple what he's on. I don't envy the guy

i understand his hands are tied with the squad he has and the injuries.

but when he was hired,he said his biggest asset was the ability to improve players individually.
well the truth is he hasn't.

he has come up with alot of brain dead selections and come up with the genius idea to replace farah early in the season with a park footballer.

he has definitely played a hand in our crap performances.

Yeh, he lost me a bit when he replaced Robbie during the Manly game. I don't see a problem with Todd Payten, even if he did play with a few of the squad.

Or …... Robbie Farah, captain - coach. Seriously.

I don't want to go through two years of this. Something is wrong some of the senior players are not following Potters game plan. It is obvious the players are not interested in playing for the coach.
The Potter way is not working the players seem to have little respect for him.

With Payten at least he is someone the players have confidence in.

Always with the notion that anyone who doesn't share your view must automatically be biased.

Like I said, ask Parra fans if they would rather be in our position recruitment/talent/club wise. I have and their answer goes against your assertions. Potter is not in a worse situation then Kearney was.

Doesn't really matter what Parra fans think. Clearly they're not as familiar with the situation at our club as you are with their's

I guess only time will tell. Kearneys overall record and the clubs position when he left will be interesting to compare to Potter in a year or so.

If a coach shows to his players that he is weak and let's the senior players run over him then the players will have no respect for him. Much of the play yesterday showed this lack of strength in coaching. Passes were not hitting a player, no structure in the backline (because we had no 5/8) and the forwards running one out continually during the second half. Don't blame the injury toll, surely this could be improved with the right coaching

You cant change a culture overnight Newtown, or half a season for that matter

If the players dont respect the coach they have to go….it happened to Sheens, trouble is we hung onto Sheens that long the problem he allowed to fester grew so much we are still paying for it

I'd be happy to stick with potter for 2 more years after this year as what has been previously said about the team I agree give him time to put his stamp on the team if he hasn't done anything in 3 years let him go but you gotta give potter time like 3 years not 12 rounds

LMAO at the idiots who are calling for PAYTEN, the guy who is mates with a third of the team, to coach after NINE ROUNDS. Did you morons actually think things would immediately get better?!?? IT'S BEEN NINE ROUNDS!!!! Potter is not the problem. He has a 5/8 who refuses to put in any effort, a pathetic centre in Lawrence, a lazy bludging second rower in Blair, a winger who refuses to contest high balls and no fixed 1/2\. This is not his squad and from what I've heard, he is preparing for a clean out.

Michael Potter is not the problem. Half of the first grade side is injured, 1/4 of the team is useless, one player who isn't doing his best, so that leaves Robbie Farrah, Aaron Woods to save our team. Not gunna happen for us this year I'm afraid but you can't blame Potter.I was listening to Matt Johns the other night and he was saying that maybe Benji will not be offered a new contract. I can see why they wouldn't with Brookes and Mosses waiting in the wings never getting a game or do we wait for some Benji brilliance to appear ( Hasn't happened for a few years now) Mosses and Brookes aren't going to be loyal forever and wait, wait, wait for their turn at the big time. What is going to happen when Robbie and Aaron go to play SOO??? I am worried.

Potter will be very lucky to be here in Round 26\. I doubt he is thinking two years ahead.

Who is going to replace him - Royce? or maybe Sheens as he is still on the books.

I don't blame Potter. He inherited this squad. Apart from Robbie, Woods and Galloway (injured for who knows how long), the rest of them would struggle to get a spot in any other first grade team. It's a mix of average players and some young guys with potential coming through. You can thank Mr Sheens for that.

Our backline has been decimated with injury. We still don't have a half back and Benji is so out of form you have to query why we persist with him at the moment. He seemed totally disinterested last night. Have a crack, for christ's sake, Benji.

This year is gone. I also fear, however, for next year. We seem to be in that spiral - poor performances, leads to poor attendances, lead to sponsors dropping off, leads to less cash in the till, leads to poor recruitment options…

We will still be paying Sheens next year, and we had no money this year to spend on a new coach this year. I suspect we will run at a loss this year. I can't see how we will be able to afford to be active in the player market, even if we cut a lot of the current squad. We will have less money next year than we did this year.

I don't understand why we would be rushing to spend whatever money we do have upgrading Benji's contract. I'd sit and let things play out for the rest of this year, at least. it's not like anyone else would be offering the kind of deal it has been reported that we are considering offering him.

As for Potter, he will have to make do with what he has and try to blood some of the younger guys coming through. I think we just have to let things take their course this year, hopefully showing some signs of improvement by the end of the year and some real improvement next year.
