Brent Reed reporting Marshall found out about tigers not wanting him through the media. I find this hard to believe. Strap in, Benji could be about to go nuclear! If he does he will ruin a potential legacy

I just don't get this crap. Maguire said, in the post-match interview, that he was focused on the future of the club and would respond accordingly through his selection policy for the remainder of the year (I'm paraphrasing).

So an opportunist, nuffie, wannabe "journalist" in Chammsas decodes this to mean that Benji is being shafted. It's nothing more than that. Utter crap.

Chammas has a very long history with this club.

He writes the articles that are about to come true.

Over and over and over again!

Youve missed his relevance.

He broke the Matterson news too didn’t he. He’s always on the money

Always!

Nothing wrong with leaking a story to the media to gauge the fans response. Benji could do himself a favour and have a look at what a lot of fans are saying and not just the opinions of his close circle.

How do you know that's what he's doing? And, why would anyone base their future plans on the thoughts or opinions of fans on a forum such as this??

He's not gonna retire because of the fans. But if the club tells him hes finished here, then he may have a look at what the fans think. Him and farah were always the worse judges of their form.

On of you is Chammas’s burner account that’s for sure hahahahahaha
True class act for so many to come to his defence.

Wasn’t the club harping on about closing the leaks this past offseason...
It would seem there’s a mole doing dirty deeds. No way would the club leak a story such as this because it does nothing but put them in a bad light.

Does it really?. A club tapping a player on the shoulder? Every club , every year does it. I think handing out these one year contracts to players well past their best sheds a poor light on the club. And delivers poor results.

Reports that another team meeting turned into all the players claiming they are walking on eggshells because they were scared whether they would get dropped on one bad performance

Show me a player who only has had one bad performance this year

Even Lucy has had probably 2 ..maybe 3 .....

Not my point.

There is no problem with any club tapping a player on the shoulder to say times up.

But I think these decisions should be done in-house and finalised well before any journos get involved.
The way it's being portrayed now takes away any chance for a genuine farewell to a club great.

I don't believe for a second that the club intended to leak this info before a decision was made. But some nuffie has decided to spill to Chammas and that's what I have an issue with.

There’s bad performances and there is straight out lack of effort. Some defensive efforts by some players have just not been consistent enough for first grade. I don’t think anyone has been dropped on one bad performance though there have been some really poor efforts that have certainly been punished and rightly so.

Any player who is whining about being dropped because of poor performance needs to leave immediately and never come back. I don’t care who they are as you are not the sort of player(s) that is going to win Wests Tigers a premiership. You can go and stuff up some other club instead.

Loser mentality at the club! Scared of being dropped because they suck. Leave then, we will sign guys who want to earn their spot like they do at teams like roosters and storm who are actually GOOD

This is the same issue I have with how it's playing out, too.
There's parents of - many junior players - currently watching this unfold and it has the potential to cause further damage on an already struggling club.

Didn't he have all the time he needed to make a decision last week?

Either way, good result. Benji has done everything in the game over long periods. Time to hang them up, take Braith's spot on the TV and have an ambassador role for the club.

Please take Braiths spot on the TV as I have not heard a more disgruntled former player than the rubbish he dealt up last saturday. Whilst we were in the arm wrestle in the first 20 minutes he could not bag us enough

Simple thing is to shut him down by performing every week ...but that very rarely happens

Players in my young blokes under 16’s side get dropped when they’re not performing...

Is this the NRL or girl guides ?
They are soft .

Benji Marshall has pledged to fight for his career at another NRL club after the Wests Tigers informed his management they would not have a spot for him in 2021.

It comes as several of the club’s players raised trust and communication issues with coach Michael Maguire during a crisis meeting on Monday, with concerns growing over the coach’s rapport with the playing group.

Sterlo urges Tigers to 'persevere' with Brooks
Peter Sterling says Luke Brooks is the man to lead the Tigers into a new era.

Marshall’s manager began calling rival NRL clubs on Monday night, offering the five-eighth’s services for next year following a two-hour meeting with Tigers officials during the afternoon.

Marshall confronted Maguire at the club’s Concord headquarters yesterday morning in a 90-minute showdown over his future. The 35-year-old, who wants to play again next season, was disappointed to learn he wasn’t part of the club’s 2021 plans after reading a Herald article on Monday morning.

Maguire had agreed to reconsider, but by the afternoon the club’s position was made clear in a meeting between Marshall’s manager Matt Desira, Tigers chief executive Justin Pascoe and head of football Adam Hartigan.

Marshall is scheduled to meet with club powerbrokers on Tuesday to discuss the matter in person. While the Tigers believe Marshall still has plenty to offer, the club’s salary cap predicament has left them with next to no choice but to bring down the curtain on his second coming at the joint venture.

The Tigers have close to $1.6 million tied up in halves Josh Reynolds (off contract at the end of 2021) and Luke Brooks (2023), while they also have Adam Doueihi, Moses Mbye, Billy Walters and young gun Jock Madden, who can all play in the halves, on their books. They have been trying to offload Reynolds for two seasons without success.

The Tigers, who are chasing Josh Addo-Carr and Penrith rookie Charlie Staines, believe Marshall’s $300,000 salary is better spent bolstering their back line or forward pack. The Tigers still have $1m to spend in their salary cap next season with five roster spots to fill.

Marshall’s career is now at a crossroads, with the veteran playmaker intent on continuing beyond his 18th season in the NRL. Manly, Newcastle and Canterbury appear the most logical options.

Marshall may yet have a change of heart once the emotion subsides. He is expected to be given a farewell tour over the final rounds before the last match of the regular season against Parramatta.

Marshall started the year well but was controversially dropped by Maguire after round four despite sitting in second position on the Dally M Medal leaderboard. He returned in round nine but the Tigers have struggled since then.
