Yeah i tend to agree overinflated the figures Reynolds is on $750k and Brooks was on $550k before a new deal was reached so i can assume that he is on $750k as well.
Benji $300k can't say we having been playing him overs like a few other players on the books.
Shame we can't off load a few like Reynolds, Mybe $950k and Packer $700k that's our issue.

Hence why not overly excited about moving on Benji - he is a minor issue to the big problem all of whom will be here again next year. Probably the only one too who seems to give a rat's about the club. Move a couple of the others on and then we are making some progress.

Benji stifles anyone else getting the ball in attack and his options are poor most games, his defense is continually putting pressure on others to cover and they burn themselves out.

Players around him under perform, Brooks is a great example gone backwards since Benji arrived back, (Although unsure if he is also our long term solution) and we don't want the younger players being influenced moving forward.

Problem is we can't off load players like Reynolds even the Bulldogs did not want him back, Super league possibility but COVID causes another issue, we have another year of pain because of the cap in 2021.

Wishing Benji all the best but its a tad selfish to consider playing on another year and not letting the Younger players have an opportunity. I will take my hat off to Lawrence and hope he gets a send off game no fuss just retiring knows when its time to go and has the clubs best interests at heart.

Quick mention on Lawrence.....he should technically be entitled to a testimonial match this year.....the guy does deserve it, but being the covid year he might miss out......if there's no crowd there's no point

*Crucially, they must also have a registered contract in the season of the match, to ensure their salary is registered at market value — and in turn, stopping game’s proceeds supplementing their wages.*

There is no way the maths in that articles is correct- we cant have 10 players potentially leaving along with the $360k penalty no longer applied and only have $1m.

People tend to selectively forget the following:
- Souths are chipping in heavily for AD, chipping in a lot less next year
- Canberra are paying for some of BJ this year, it's all us next year
- Given LL was released, it's possible Dragons are paying some of him this year
- We signed Stefano on big dollars
- We also signed AJ and Blore, this year they are heavily covered financially by their former clubs
- We upgraded Talau and I think Twal as well

There is possibly more that I've missed.

From my spreadsheet that i am keeping tabs on now although i don't know the figures relating to all.
There good points you raised.
AD - $600k - 2020 $150k Subsidy Souths, 2021 $100k - Nil the last two years.

Unsure what BJ is on - Not a great signing this year???

LL - Agree subsidy ???? Good Signing

Stefano - Unsure what is big $$$$

Upgrades are part of retaining talent but noted.

Great feedback but hopefully we have some more cap space than reported.

Oh... What are they really on?

Brooks reportedly 550K when first signed. I'm not sure if that was to rise each year because I've heard 650K thrown around too. Either way, this one is way off (not that I really take reported figures too seriously these days).

Benji isn't the problem at the Tigers,

Im OK with one more year if we all understand that he isn't the primary Play maker in 2021

Brooks needs to Step Up or be replaced

He was given a 4 year extened deal when Madge 1st arrived till 2023 - He was on $550k at that time and they did state it was a substantial increase i think $750k would sound about right and put him on the same same salary as Reynolds.

Not suggesting Benji should play on but also don't see it resolving much with opening up cap money and our need to recruit.
As for Brooks I've seen him play well with Benji beside him and not well just the same as every other player who has been accused of stifling him.
Time for Brooks to own it and decide where his career is headed whether it's here or somewhere else.

That figure was from Pascoe last week so it's spot on.I'm amazed Benji doesn't see it's time to go.

I told everyone months ago, that despite being in career worst form, Benji wanted to play next year, and that Benji never had the clubs best interest at heart it was all about his ego,, and finally it would be a distraction we could do with out, I was told I was dreaming

We need forwards not backs we already have too many under performing backs on big $, Penny has dropped need the go forward otherwise can't compete as other teams.
Looks like Madge has a plan and i would extend his contract as well by another 2 years at the end of the season to show players on the Market we have a long term plan, finally.

Ah right, I was still thinking of the previous contract. I feel like that one went under the radar, probably because nobody on here was that excited about it :joy:

Right decision by the club. Chammas reporting it, so there's truth to it. End of an era but the call needed to be made.

I think at the time we were excited to keep him having a new coach to give him some better guidance.
$750k playing overs if you look at it now.
Been a brooks supporter up until mid this year however after this season not convinced has had 2 years under Madge now.
It all depends who we have coming through, prior we have not had the talent to put pressure on his position.
Think Madge will keep Brooks for now as contract has 3 more years however he is looking at him more closely now and putting him under pressure to perform.

This really is the best news I could hope for on a monday morning, and as an aside, Benji at $300k or Foran at $300k, I know which one I would take on the open market

Scummy article from ChammASS. Lots of insinuations on the situation. How about letting Benji and the club announce the decision in due time!?
But nah, lets go ahead and put a dent into my weekly click quota with another WT's puff peice

sanity prevails. fingers crossed we can move Reynolds and/or M'Bye on and sign a low budget, high potential half.

Agreed he is not problem and in reality he has subsidized our Salary cap for the past 2 seasons on $300k just like Farah did when he came back.

Benji can't play 2nd fiddle that is one issue, if you watch his performances he has one good game in about 7 that is also against bottom 8 teams and sadly his shoulders are busted and can't compete against the Top 8 teams.

But it is time to retire and give someone else an opportunity, we all hear the saying - one year too long that's what it will be for him and Madge knows it. Rather remember him winning the 2005 final that playing on in 2021 and being humiliated.

The club and Benji have had time to announce it for weeks, due to the delicate nature of things i am sure it was leaked so the third party cops the blame not the club....Politics

Probably the right call, although you'd have to say Benji has been our best half all year (that may not be saying much but not sure you can argue it).

But if by some miracle another team takes Reynolds off our hands, Benji's $300k doesn't sound so bad for an experienced back-up half...
