Pressure Mounts on Marshall to make his call

There is no way the maths in that articles is correct- we cant have 10 players potentially leaving along with the $360k penalty no longer applied and only have $1m.

Who have we added already for 2021 - Blore, Utoko, Kepoa - is there anyone else - those 3 combined wouldn't be taking up anymore than 750k. also if we upgrade 3 development players to top grade that will probably be around 500k. You would think we would easily cover those amounts and still have more than a million leftover.

Looks like Chammas gave Reynolds and Brooks a payrise...Reynolds 800K Brooks 800K = 1.6M dollars..

Oh... What are they really on?

Brooks reportedly 550K when first signed. I'm not sure if that was to rise each year because I've heard 650K thrown around too. Either way, this one is way off (not that I really take reported figures too seriously these days).

He was given a 4 year extened deal when Madge 1st arrived till 2023 - He was on $550k at that time and they did state it was a substantial increase i think $750k would sound about right and put him on the same same salary as Reynolds.

Ah right, I was still thinking of the previous contract. I feel like that one went under the radar, probably because nobody on here was that excited about it :joy:

I think at the time we were excited to keep him having a new coach to give him some better guidance.
$750k playing overs if you look at it now.
Been a brooks supporter up until mid this year however after this season not convinced has had 2 years under Madge now.
It all depends who we have coming through, prior we have not had the talent to put pressure on his position.
Think Madge will keep Brooks for now as contract has 3 more years however he is looking at him more closely now and putting him under pressure to perform.

I'm with you. I've lost faith, except still holding out some hope. He has natural ability, which is exceedingly rare in this team. And I'd be very reluctant to ship off our fastest player at this stage.. Might as well be called the West's Plodders if that were the case.

Scummy article from ChammASS. Lots of insinuations on the situation. How about letting Benji and the club announce the decision in due time!?
But nah, lets go ahead and put a dent into my weekly click quota with another WT's puff peice

The club and Benji have had time to announce it for weeks, due to the delicate nature of things i am sure it was leaked so the third party cops the blame not the club....Politics

Don't think they're interested in playing the blame game. Club wants BM to retire gracefully, BM wants the club record for games played(1 more year would do it)...

ChammASS is just throwing out multiple scenarios, so if one of them eventuates, he can later reference it for credit.

Nice to hear the heat regards playing on, hope benji can see it's in the interest for WT and doesnt get filthy.
Hope he retires so WT can send him off nicely.
If he really wants another year sure plenty of clubs will pick him up as depth for another year

At his price I whould have thought he was good depth for us,
There’s players on a lot more money than him giving us a lot less for a return on our money

Well does that now show that Benji is selfish if all he cares about is the Club record for number of games.
He would have it if he had not left prior????
Lawrence actually more deserving the way he has gracefully retired with nil fuss.

You make a good point, Media 50/50 call.
However both partiers have had ample time to come out with something these past few weeks and no one did, good for putting it out there, lets hope it happens.

Probably the right call, although you'd have to say Benji has been our best half all year (that may not be saying much but not sure you can argue it).

But if by some miracle another team takes Reynolds off our hands, Benji's $300k doesn't sound so bad for an experienced back-up half...

I think $300k is massive for a back up player.

mate i agree, in an ideal world.

Problem is you have reynolds on a massive contract and he's going nowhere, as the article says too many people covering this position.

If in fantasy land we could move on reynolds/brooks im sure benji would be given another year

Yeah i tend to agree overinflated the figures Reynolds is on $750k and Brooks was on $550k before a new deal was reached so i can assume that he is on $750k as well.
Benji $300k can't say we having been playing him overs like a few other players on the books.
Shame we can't off load a few like Reynolds, Mybe $950k and Packer $700k that's our issue.

Hence why not overly excited about moving on Benji - he is a minor issue to the big problem all of whom will be here again next year. Probably the only one too who seems to give a rat's about the club. Move a couple of the others on and then we are making some progress.

Benji stifles anyone else getting the ball in attack and his options are poor most games, his defense is continually putting pressure on others to cover and they burn themselves out.

Players around him under perform, Brooks is a great example gone backwards since Benji arrived back, (Although unsure if he is also our long term solution) and we don't want the younger players being influenced moving forward.

Problem is we can't off load players like Reynolds even the Bulldogs did not want him back, Super league possibility but COVID causes another issue, we have another year of pain because of the cap in 2021.

Wishing Benji all the best but its a tad selfish to consider playing on another year and not letting the Younger players have an opportunity. I will take my hat off to Lawrence and hope he gets a send off game no fuss just retiring knows when its time to go and has the clubs best interests at heart.

At the price Benji is a good depth player, and if any of young players are good enough to take is place they will. And please stop making excuses for Brooks 7 season 145 games and it’s still someone else’s fault

Benji has not been our best half all year imo.I would say he has been arguably our worst. He needs to go out without tarnishing his legacy even more or he will be remembeered for all the wrong reasons

Well not our call - Madge to make and looks like he has if true.
Gives me faith moving forward we have a coach that is prepared to make the hard decisions.
Well brooks not making excuses, just an observation will only know when Benji no longer there.
If you read my other posts you will see that Brooks has had ample opportunities to step up but this season i have lost faith in him, under the spot light now. Cheers.

This. And we have heaps of potential 5/8s Mbye, Reynolds, AD, Talau, Madden etc.

I see it as Madden is just replacing Benji in the top 30 for next season which makes a lot of sense to me.

I bet Madge is praying Benji makes the decision himself. Last thing he would want is to have to get rid of a club legend who wants to stay I’m sure.

Benji should know his time is up

Don't underestimate the ego on some of these players. Benji's is as big as anyone's.

There aren't many reasons why he'd want to play on next year -
1 - Win premiership (no chance)
2 - Money (doubtful, he'd earn more with a media career)
3 - Thinks he's playing well and will continue to do so (Not watching game film if he thought this)
4 - Most games played for WT's - Highly Likely (He'd pass Robbie with another season)

considering what happened to Potter dropping marshall for 20 minutes of footy....madge would be sweating!!!

Benji needs to retire for his own benefit and legacy, having said that I will say, when it comes to $$$ for players, the first thing I would look at is their performance value...this is not including up and comers or rookies just for this discussion..
Benji has been great and irrespective of the money he is on he is an NRL contracted player in the best comp in the world, however, his performances this year are nowhere near his past years and he only plays 1 brilliant game out of 4...his defense is poor his kicking game is questionable and his side to side crabbing shows me he is scared to take on the line...in my opinion he is being paid on false grounds as he should be performing to NRL level week in and week out....
he has had a great career now he should go out on a high note being a legend of the game, not becoming a mark for people saying the negative stuff Im sure they will come up with if he plays on and plays poorly for another failed year....
