Put away the daggers fans- well done to the players

I feel bad about starting a new post because I'm wary of adding to the dribble, but I feel that fans here need to calm down. In all the analysis of how the Tigers are 'stale' and 'they aren't giving 100%' and 'benji is a touch player' and 'sheens needs to be sacked' and 'blair is useless' no one has bothered to talk about how depleted our side is and how much commitment they showed last night. So, the injuries:

1\. Tedesco
2\. Utai
5\. Tuquiri
7\. Moltzen
9\. Farah
11\. Ellis
(12\. Dwyer- does he still count?)

Think about how injuries in those positions would affect every other side in the competition. Think about how it would affect the bulldogs. Nevermind taking all their other players out- if you take out Barba their side has nothing.

So, half the side is taken out (including our captain, arguably the best second rower in the game and our speed in the backline as well as both of our wingers) and we still compete against the form side in the competition. I agree that we were scrappy and Benji had a poor second half but this is a piecemeal team which was down a man early on. So, sure it was hard to see a structure out there but that is inevitable when a team is a depleted as ours.

I am pariticularly disappointed with the benji bashing. The whole team revolves around him at the moment and I think it is really poor form to have a go at his performance. His kicking game certainly went missing in the second half but how about (after we always complain about the lack of loyalty shown by players) we give the guy a break for a subpar performance. It is not as if he went missing in the match or wasn't playing hard, so do you really want to have a go at a player who has been our best for the last seven years and will continue to be into the future? His entire spine which he had trained with all summer (tedesco, moltzen, farah) was missing today and he still led our side to almost getting a victory against the best side in the comp.

Sheens also deserves praise for turning players like Ryan, Humble, Iosefa, Bell into serviceable first graders. They are all rejects from other clubs who consistently perform for us in a range of different positions. So, while you all go on about how fed up you are none of you offer much analysis of how Sheens should be doing things better (how come he didn't have a winger on the bench tonight?????). Also, consider who out there you want to get. Should we get Lamb back? How about Stuart? Stuart has a proven record of developing excellent halves (for other clubs once they leave his coaching). Langmack? Fittler? None offer anything. But Sheens is not only the right option because there is no one else, he also encourages the most exciting brand of footy in the competition and is one of the best at developing juniors. Fans take for granted what he has done with this squad, but any supporter who followed wests/balmain and early wests tigers would be aware of how often quality junior talent gets ruined by dodgy coaching. Sheens has rarely made such mistakes. In fact, next to Hasler, Bennett and Bellamy there is no one better, and we aren't getting any of those coaches anytime soon.

All you who are so critical of the sheens/benji/farah tigers team are going to wax lyrical about this side when this great team is eventually lost.

Good post Watersider. We certainly weren't at our best and haven't been for the whole year. I think most people are just disappointed after all the hype at the beginning of the year.

Thank you, i guess it is a good lesson in why listening to media hype is a bad idea.

We are angry because we were in that game and laziness , lack of focus and some really poor form from some of our senior players \leaders let us down

We are a lazy defensive side and we won't even make the 8 if we can't fix it NOW

My problem with Benji is not so much Benji but it is Sheens.

Since he has moved to halfback he has zero running game, none at all. Oppositions used to stand off him because they didn't know what was coming next, now they do. All this rubbish about Benji always being our half is rubbish.

If Benji is to play halfback for the rest of his career than cut his contract value by half and that is being generous. Fifth tackle bombs and only tackling for the first 30 minutes of a game with any gusto is like watching Joe Williams run around in Benji's body.

Sheens also has allowed the Eric Grothe Jnr like up and in from lawrence continue without any repurcussions. He makes the highlight reel once or twice a game but think about how many times this moronic play has cost us.

Add to that his utterly woeful bench rotations and I am shod of Sheens. It has gotten to the point where I can't even judge new players talents within our structure because our structure is so utterly pathetic

this sums the game up perfectly.
had a great chance, to beat bulldogs.

Smeg it is simple Benji is hopeless at 7 unless Farah is there

I don't know who that tells us more about . Benji or Robbie .

The positives for me so far, are that Woods & Ryan have been consistently our best players week in week out all year. Plus Farah is getting back to playing career best form, boy we missed him last night. Not sure if I missed Woods being taken off in the first half but I think he played the first 70 minutes, which if he did, he just keeps impressing me with not just his work load but the quality of it. The scary thing is he's only 21 & injury's permitting, how good will he become.

The problem is that almost all of the attack is centred around Benji who isnt providing it except for a couple of lucky kicks. He doesn't run anymore so there is no draw and pass from him or penetration. Farah the other point of attack was missing. It again highlights how much the Tigers are missing another playmaker like Lui was. How come Sheens doesn't see this problem clearly and rectify it is one of life's big mysteries !

Good quote Watersider, I think we should stop all this "player/coach/ asst coach/ball boy" type bashing after we lose a game. I'm not happy that we lost either, but I reckon we played a pretty good/entertaining game against a top team. Give it a rest guys, and lets all be positive :blah

We didnt do too bad last night I though immediately after the game…and just finished watching the replay now, considering the circumstances currently.
Theres lots of improvement....but the problems run deep as well....and they dont seem to be being adressed.

Canterbury are playing brilliant footy right now. WT was just too soft in defence.

We didn't do too bad? We were terrible!!! and if we played a side last night who weren't as terrible they would of demoralised us. We don't look like we know how to mount pressure or score a try, all we had was bomb barber and have Ryan rush him and we couldn't even do that right. That play when we threw the ball around like a bunch of school girls and also the two times Fulton kicked on the last were the most embarrassing things ive seen on the football field, it is worse than park football stuff.

We were in that game for almost the entire 80….as I said there are problems, big problems...we are a long way from the front runners....the Dogs were terrible in the first half too, we missed our chance there not putting more on them
\
\
Im probably thinking this way, because i didnt expect us to win.

That's my feeling too. Dogs are in great form and lifted when required. We could not match them once they cut their mistakes, only drag ourselves level. The real difference is that Benny Barba put on two magic tries in the second half. Our best players aren't anywhere near that kind of form.

It was a massive improvement on the last two weeks.

Agree , I think we were in the match at various stages against the odds especially as we were not expected to win, and the disappointing thing I guess is that we do not look like matching it with the top 4 sides at the moment.
I am sure when push comes to the shove the team will lift to get us into the finals and I will sheath the daggers till end of year, as more than once in the last two years they have exceeded my expectations in previous dire positions

we had our chances in the first half with plenty of field position and ball and couldn't get over the line…we had a gift 2 points we went for a try and made a mistake....the story of our night....farah is obviously our key player.

I thought once again humble, lawrence, heino, were our worst and the others wernt that far off...i dont even know who was our best...iosefa was our best when he come on he set up a try and scored one and at least went for some big hits to turn defence into attack...does anyone else agree

I will no doubt get crucified for this, but I thought Blair played pretty well. It was the hardest I have seen him run at the line

I don't think we need to get too worried just yet. Personally, they did not look "up" for the game and you could tell this in the first 10 minutes - they were not getting off their defensive line. When this occurs, you know Sheens has got them going. In saying that, the performance was not too bad against a very good team and without doubt we have substantial upside.

They will come good, it is a matter of when.
