OFFICIAL Q&A Club discussion with Shaun Mielekamp

What happened to the Orange jersey @ShaunMielekamp
I have to head offline now and sorry there are hundreds more questions for me to get through. I might never get to them all but it wont be from a lack of trying.
In regards to "what happened to the Orange jersey"?
Nothing happened we are still listed to wear it plenty more times this season. What I can say it that we will improve our communication to members on what the jersey plan is and what they will expect next season. We were not clear on the vocabulary on home/away main/alternate etc.
As we head into next year we will be clear on how many games and which games each jersey will be worn. This is one area we will improve on.

I'll try and jump back online early next week. thanks again everyone

I appreciate the feedback - We will keep working and building here to deliver the best match day we can. C-town next year will have a huge emphasis on this. My motherhood statement is that we need to turn match days into events and events into festivals.
As far as never tear us apart it did show some promise for a while, these initiatives only ever work long term when they align with on field success. I did have to take a breath myself with never tear us apart because not only was Port using this but the Newcastle Jets as well. the team here were passionate to give it a go and I will always back passionate staff to have a crack at something new.
Thanks a lot for your reply and coming on the forum. This gesture and effort is greatly appreciate. Again, best of luck.

New year - same results. Never seems to change. Been supporting Magpies and Tigers since the mid 70s. Dad been following them since the 1940s and grandfather since the 1920s. Apart from a few unicorn years, we are the same every year. An underfunded and low achieving team. The team has always lacked true leaders on the field, and strong, aligned leadership off the field. There is no unrelenting drive to be the best, we seem just happy to participate and jag the odd win. Off-field we need alignment from the board to the administration and coaches. We dont have it, and with HBG, I doubt we ever will. On field, we have no resilience and no one driving the standards and resilience and mental side of the game. SM - I honestly wish you all the best but you have an uphill battle. It is not good for the fans to suffer every week. We deserve better, and as the CEO, you need to deliver. I am sick of the talk, I just want results delivered consistently week after week. I dont think I will see it in my lifetime. Failure is ingrained deep at this club. So deep I dont know if it will ever come out. SM - your challenge it to prove me wrong. Incremental improvement will never be enough. Work out a way to be #1. The roosters can have 6 SOO players, why cant we. Dont say salary cap constraints. If they can do it, why cant we. They dont accept anything other than being premiership contenders every year. Our club needs to do the same.

This is where we need to put as much resource as we can for the long term - it is a big ocean but I am passionate about building this for the long term
Thanks mate, appreciate the response.

I hope you can eventually divulge more information about how much $$ were given to our Pathways teams, especially compared to other teams. And if we can increase the quality of coaches, trainers/ physios, or what the plans are to upskill the current ones.

Thank you for joining our community and answering our questions @ShaunMielekamp greatly appreciated. I have a generic question about player contracts.

Can you please elaborate what are the different types of player contracts there are at the Wests Tigers?

It is common knowledge we have Top 30 contracts, Development contracts (max of 6), NRL Train & Trial contracts (pre-season & full-season) & NSW Cup contracts. But what is below this?

We hear about 'Pathways' contracts and see many Instagram posts by agents of a young client (even as young as 15/16) signed to the WT for 27-29 as an example.

I guess how are pathways contracts with WT categorised and approx how many youngsters receive them each year? (I understand these would be separate from making say a Balmain or Wests SG Ball squad as an example).

Hi Shaun,

Check out this clip of Shane Flanagan discussing what it’s like preparing to play the Wests Tigers across their home venues:

It's surprising that the club is shifting to 8 games at Campbelltown and only 3 at Leichhardt when opposition coaches clearly view Leichhardt as the far more intimidating venue.

In my view, Campbelltown needs to earn that right. They give away free tickets there and still fall well short of capacity, whereas Leichhardt sells out almost every game with fans scrambling for tickets.

Win/Loss last 20 games
Campbelltown, 3 wins, 17 losses
Leichardt, 11 wins, 9 losses

We need success on the field.

I really didn't want to engage in this thread as we all know we are just gonna recieve the politician answers from a CEO, and thats to be expected.

But I have to ask Shaun, how long do we persist with a coach who has no experience, no knowledge on how to run a team let alone a club and roster, and a coach who is obviously failing miserably.

Hi Shaun

Not being rude and not being a smart ass

Just being totally honest as I'm just so disappointed with this club

But how do you honestly expect anyone to show up to games, buy memberships, buy merchandise?

How do you even try and promote this rabble of a joint to fans?

I mean we have recruited well recently. We started this year well. Yes we have had some injuries but other teams have as well and still compete. We don't even try. We haven't for 3 months. We are the so pathetic it's not funny. We have been for 15yrs and are getting worse not better. I'm dreading the potential score lines over the last 5 weeks.

Can you just tell the playing group to show some balls and do it for the fans?

It can't be that hard

They are doing something the entire planet wishes they could do

Play professional sport at the highest level

Us fans deserve better

I'm worried we are going to see the first ever 80 to nil loss and not just one

Our last the games could be horrific

Anyway rant over

Please fix this club

It's really distressing being a Tigers fan. Actually harmful to my mental health. I can always find a reason to watch - today it was Andrews - and then I'm just shattered again. And then you see the players smiling and laughing while you fear on the verge of tears of frustration. Then you have to come in here to dipshit Raiders fans putting the bolt in because some Tigers fans were a little over exuberant after thinking the tide had turned after 14 years.

All just feel really bad. All for a dumb sport because my [This word has been automatically removed]ing Dad was born on the peninsula and I was raised in Chatswood so Tigers and Bears are my only options.

Edit: People can tell me to just take a break but it's hard, rugby league has been a passion my entire life. I remember posting on the old rleague.com forums in 1999 when Laurie Nichols died. Been a long time of following the club and engaging with online rugby league communities. It's really getting me down but has always been one of my passions silly as it sounds."

Hi Shaun
The Wests Tigers coach Benji Marshall asked or told Adam Doueihi to play a different position and didn't agree with the coach and was absent on game day does Adam still get paid for the week ???

Hi Shaun,

As Wests Tigers CEO can you please give some form of assurance to us fans that you personally will investigate what exactly it is at the Wests Tigers that is rotten. Players careers very raerly develop on an uphill trajectory, it seems no matter who we sign they vary raerly imprpve, we had the last 2 coaches who won a combined 5 premierships, one ran as soon as he could, one was sacked. We had Shane Richardson amongst other ceo's who had vast experience leave, we vary raerly develop our juniors as well as other clubs. We have changed players, coaches, executives and still the Wests Tigers seems to be a career killer. Will you personally guarantee to investigate and find out what the actual problem is. It must be something structural in the clubs running. As its not been rectified with new coaches, players and executives. Can you interview former players, coaches and executives who left to find out exactly what theyre experiances were. Noone at the club currently under employment can discuss certain things. If you speak privatly to those who have left. People who speak negativly about the club like Braith Anasta they will tell you the truth. You as CEO must get to the bottom of what is rotten at the club and rectify whatever it is. Even if its the owners intervening constantly. You are the CEO of Wests Tigers not HBG. Your loyalty lies first and foremost to the Wests Tigers. Can you guarantee us fans you will begin looking into the issues. From a fans perspective it just looks like we are an amature team in a professional competition.
Thanking you.
