Truly shocking, words cannot describe it. My parents live just outside Bundaberg near the beach and have fortunately escaped any flooding at their place but Bundaberg itself is in all sorts of trouble. I've donated any extra funds I've had left out of my fortnightly budget and every little bit will help as the clean up and repair work could take years in some places.

I have friends in quite a few towns up north….all are safe and relatively untouched so far.

Got some in Ipswich who are readying for possible flooding tomorrow.

Poor buggers have copped a hammering for years now through ridiculously bad droughts, then finally when it rained they were flooded, recovered from that and were flooded again last year and now this.

Just not fair.

Worst thing is trying to get money out of the insurance companies for something this scale will be tantamount to getting blood from a stone.

The Federal government should keep a slush fund with a few billion dollars lying in there in the event that this does occur. All of our foreign aid should be redirected to the clean up & rebuild effort. We have needy here that need to be looked after first for a change.

I have to disagree with you there CB. Insurers can only knock back the claims if they exclude Flood cover - with this exclusion being removed from some policy's since the Newcastle Flood in 07\. You will find that it will take some time before assessors can get in there to review the damage, but the companies will be quite proactive in having things progress.

In Newcastle even the policies that excluded flood waived the exclusion as their competitors were paying claims. To my knowledge it was mostly the overseas insurers that denied claims and they are a very small percentage of the market.

In times like these no-one wants any bad publicity.

I live in Bundaberg itself and have never seen so much destruction here, some people have lost every thing, thoughts go to the businesses that have been cleaning up since and now have to brace for more flooding thursday. Also kudos to you for donating every bit helps, just thankful i dont live in Toowomba poor people.

Also those who have family and friends they are worried about. I've got immediate family in Ipswich and they're in borderline regions. It's a bit worrying.

Cunno, I don't know what rock you're Hiding under but Barack Obama via Hilary Clinton from the largest State in the Union have pledged their support.
I'm going to chip in with 5 lobsters to a charity in support of this tragedy, can some of our forum friends suggest a better charity to donate to rather than the generic Qld gov site, or can I totally trust them?…....
As much as we might bag our native friends from the North they absolutely deserve our support right now!.

Offers of support have been lodged from USA, China, Phillipines, Indonesia and an offer of help from NZ has been taken up. Thats just what I am sure of.

Just because we face this disaster on our home front does not decrease the need to fund relief programmes elsewhere. The long and the short of this is that infrastructure and more than likely the majority of buildings will have been rebuilt by this time next year. In the countries with no effective insurance sector, with no infrastructure of any note this will not be the case. Despite best efforts countries like Haiti and Pakistan will feel the effect of their disasters for almost a generation even with financial aid in place.

It is times like this we stretch ourselves to accomodate all in crisi both inside our borders and outside. I thought that was one of the characteristics that defines our nation. We turn up to help. It is who we are

Neck up you parrot. I have family live in QLD (they're not in any trouble yet thankfully, but may be if the rain continues for another 12 hours,) listened intently to those poor farmers who have lost their livelihood and have to go back cap in hand to the banks for an extension of funds to keep going and saw footage of people being trapped in cars and on the roofs of houses. It's hardly political to say that the government should have a fund to employ assistance immediately in times of crisis such as this or that you would hope that other countries would repay good faith by lending us assistance when we truly need it.

While we have seen devastating pictures, sensationalised by the media in the last 36hours, please remember places like Brisbane will be rebuilt very quickly due to resources and corporate dollars.

I hope our Government puts just as much energy into the "other" towns who are still under water in Central Queensland & the Highland Regions, and have been since the media lost interest.

For those who can't donate, I urge you all to maybe take the time for family holidays in the next 18months to 2 years in the regional towns like Bundaberg, Gladstone, Dalby, Toowoomba, Rockhampton & Mackay, as every dollar spent in those communities will go further in helping the people in those towns rebuild…

BRISBANE'S Suncorp Stadium is on fire after rising flood waters short circuited after, fire-fighters believe, a generator box short circuited after rising flood waters.

Smoke is streaming out of a second story vent where it is believed a generator lurks behind.

With Brisbane River having broken its banks flood waters have begun flooding through Brisbane city and right now the water level is about 1-1.2m high on the ground floor of Suncorp stadium.

As yet the playing surface inside is yet to be covered in water.

However, streets surrounding the stadium have flooded well over 1m and close to 2m high.

Fire fighters are currently outside the stadium determining how they can get inside to put out the fire that is burning on the western side of the ground.

Shortly after 10.30am a large explosion boomed from behind the vent, sending black plumes of smoke billowing into the air.

"There's been a secondary explosion from the vicinity of the substation," a fireman said over radio.

As an alarm bell continues to ring as background noise, firefighters have gained access to nearby rooftops to check for damage and a current safety status.

They are still trying to find a way into the stadium.
