Queensland team 2017

Hard to get behind the loyalty program when Slater is playing like one of the best fullbacks in the comp and O'Neill would be lucky to make the Joondalup Giants reserve grade.
I know we'll see changes, but it's a completely uninspiring team sheet given the generational change just around the corner.

Would've gone with:
1\. Slater
2\. Boyd
3\. Gagai
4\. Chambers
5\. Holmes
6\. Morgan
7\. Cronk
8\. Napa
9\. Smith
10\. Thaiday
11\. Papalii
12\. Gillett
13\. McGuire
14\. Wallace
15\. Oates
16\. Hess
17\. Kaufusi

Papalii, Thaiday and McGuire can all play middle with ease and move forward, meaning Hess and Kaufusi can sub on to an edge pretty smoothly. Think Oates would be a big advantage off the bench, and Gavin Cooper is a bit stiff to miss out, but I reckon that pack counters their inevitably strong NSW opposition pretty well.

True mark of Walters as a coach will be how he handles the transition. Not an enviable job in the slightest, but the cattle is there to be competitive throughout.

Criminal decision to leave Slater out. Mals influence shining through on that decision.
Oniel does not deserve his spot nor does Milford and Oates. The bench lacks impact and spark.

Weakest QLD team picked in a dozen years. Home crowd advantage twice may get the bickies….2-1 just.

The Qld backline should have been able to fit Slatter in. The NSW props will be stronger than Qld. But the Qld backrow is a better.
Cordner is a great player but
Josh Papalii, Matt Gillett , Josh McGuire is a better back row than
Cordner, Josh Jackson and Frizzel. IMO.
If I had to pick a Kangaroo backrow out of the six players above; I'd go
Papalii, Cordner, McGuire. Gillette and the bench or possibly Gillette starting with Papalii and the bench.
Papalii is beast and will run hard at Marlony. Not too sure about Hayne at centre as well.
The NSW props will make more metres through the middle making it easy for our backrow.

Walters' justification that they didn't want to risk him is even more insulting, there's no way in hell Justin O'Neill makes this team better than Billy Slater.

Im a NSWelshmen and I think it's a disgrace Slater isn't in this side, there is no valid reason for him not being there. SOO is supposed to be the pinnacle of rugby league with the best players we have to offer, sorry but it's not this year.
Slater fullback, Boyd on a wing it's not too hard.

Big question marks over the bench.
No room for Holmes or Wallace which is baffling.
I back the call to pick Boyd over Slater.
JT will play.

Is that Jarrod Wallace from Coffs Harbour Qld?

I hope you realise that Jarrod spent his juniors in Runaway Bay before moving over the border.

Didn't know that, I played against Runaway Bay as a junior

Im a qldee and i hate the side. Gene miles and darren lockyer have alotbto answer for.

Look at the 4 players they didnt pick.

Coen hess - leadingbtryscorer/ beast
jarrod wallace - plays 60-70 min and makes over 200 metres a game.
valentine holmes - australian winger
billy slater - best fullback of our generation.

Honestly nsw will win the first game. I hope they do so it shows how stupid our selectors were in the first place.

I had to laugh at this quote from The Guardian's Paul Connolly -

"Myles, for instance, seems to be in Kevin Walters’ team only because Queensland’s selectors wrote his name down out of habit and then didn’t have the heart to correct their mistake once they saw how excited he was."

This one from the same journo isn't bad either -

"Yet Hayne hasn’t had one of those days for some time, not since he left the NRL a few years ago to bravely follow a series of dreams that, infuriatingly for him, kept disappearing down rabbit holes that he couldn’t fit his head into."

I think we are zero chance of beating NSW this year… Qld will simply not be able to hold NSW in the middle of the park. Once they collapse our middle, the likes of Cordner & Frizzell will open up the edges.

We have tried to limit changes and stick to the structure which has seen us get home on many occasions. It just wont be good enough to beat this NSW team. Holmes, Hess and Wallace/Sims should be in our 17\. Unfortunately, NSW are a better structured team and this squad reminds me of their 2000 Team.

I'd go as far as to say NSW 3-0 in 2017!

Are you kidding, Watto,

Youre foxing

This is a team with so many of the best players ever. Their era of dominance I fear isnt over yet.

QLDers love to be underdogs.

This day is one of the most anxious of the year for me
