No, we are not better than this !!!! The Censorship by way of removing the downvote is comical. People being offended by a downvote, (they cant possibly be serious) is comical.
An alternate view is acceptable as long as it is WOKE and fits the narrative of the Bed Wetters and Fainters of this Forum, which by the way has been highjacked by this bunch of Marshmallows who are all in favour of getting a Participation Award.

Hey man , @happy_tiger was pretty against it too , and he doesn’t strike me as woke . Also in general , I’m going to say this again , but when you say stuff like that , it’s just confrontational. Are you looking for a fight ? I just don’t understand that stuff . For me personally, when I chose to use that type of language , and condescension it means I’m very much ready for a fight .
It’s baffling , most who say stuff like that on here , have been very vocal about how bullied they feel !

I just don’t get the duality . People calling each other soft , marshmallows , cowards , happy clappers etc. Yet jump up and down if someone tells them to go eat a bag full ! You’re either up for the fight or your not . If your not , don’t go around using that language . It’s pretty simple to me .
This is the thing I don’t understand about this place . How precious some people are .

I was more against how it was being used and why if you neg repped why the person you neg repped couldn't find out who it was .....

If you can't make a half decent argument to back up your neg rep ...maybe you shouldn't use the neg rep

Don't know what a woke is .......my opinion on name calling ...if you wouldn't do it to someone's face at a pub .....don't use it on a forum

How about thumbs up?
Do people have to explain "why" for that too?
Sorta defeats the purpose of the function.... If you're gunna post either for or against an opinion the little thumb is pointless

So blame me ...and that goes for anyone else who wants to have a whinge about it .....

Dissapointed the neg rep has been removed. Will lead to more repetitive posts of disagreement. Makes no sense to allow positive votes on a negaive posts but no the other way around. The post neg was fine

I agree. The downvote could work the way Ink and Boonboon are suggesting if the downvotes werent anonymous.

Right now, with the state of the forum, I think the status quo is ok.

The upvote is perfect for when you agree but have nothing to add to the discussion. Ink & Boonboons argument (if ive got it right) that it is the same for the downvote is IMO incorrect because by definition if you disagree, you DO have something to add (your reason for the different opinion). That is exactly how a healthy forum would work.

In short I think Up and down could work (without anonymity) but the suggestion that they have the same role is wrong.

This post sux! It is one of my favourite songs, now every time I listen to it I’ll think of Happy and his downvote rants.

There was absolutely no ambiguity about what The Roman emperor meant when he showed his thumbs to the gladiator, the gladiator was either spared or dead.

Hand gestures is another form of non verbal communication, and sometimes if it's used in a deliberate wrongful way there could be serious consequences.

So how can we trust and what if that every poster on this forum is not using these hand gestures responsibly?

Some believe that these hand gestures are used on social media sites such as this forum, they are basically supposed to be meant to mean that you agree or don't agree with a post, and supposedly there should be no ambiguity about that.

What i've learned during my time on this forum is that those people who say and believe that the thumbs down icon is only used to mean that they don't agree with a post are either ignorant or are the deniers of this problem, this icon has much much more meanings than what is believed by some.

And when we feel strongly about a topic such as this one, and talk about on this forum, guess what? There will always be 1 or more people who will get upset along the way, but i will not hold a grudge with anyone and my intention is to not upset anyone and i'm sorry if i have,

But the sayings and doings of the deniers of this problem does not matter one bit anymore, what matters now is that the administrator has identified this as a serious problem, and i should also add that i do recall others and @willow did also mention his concerns about this problem too.

To those who say that the thumbs down icon was only used to mean **"i don't agree".**
The Emperor has this to say to you.

On a scale of 1 to 10, where
10 is the loss of a loved one, and
1 is some spilt milk that had to be wiped up
I would have thought a thumbs down by a stranger on the internet, who you will never meet, and whose opinions will have no bearing on your life, is a 0.

Actually, it means that you have 0 (zero) understanding of this problem,
And it also means that you have zero respect for the person who realised that this is a serious problem and created this thread.

Are we really having this much conversation about this? I can’t believe that are getting so upset about thumbs down. Personally I don’t care if they are there or not but the way some people are carrying on it’s like someone has randomly walked up to them and slapped them in the face. It’s a down vote on the internet it just means someone disagrees with what you have said. I had a post recently that ended up negative 9 or 10 and I just assumed that most people disagreed with what I said. Oh well life moves on. If people who I will most likely never meet want to show their disagreement in that fashion more power to them. The thumbs down has been taken away let’s just move on with our lives.

[/QUOTE]

a thumbs up and a thumbs down is a serious problem? like seriously?

I guess what's important to some isn't that big a deal to others... Much like real life.
Also the way people post... Some aggressive.. Some timid... Some in between, just like society and how we deal with things every day
Different generations

I actually remember reading somewhere that a thumbs up meant 'yes kill the guy', and a thumbs down meant 'no don't kill them, spare them'. Which is the opposite of the common perception these days.

And if I'm remembering wrong, or got mixed up, and it didn't mean that, it doesn't matter the point is still proved - that thumbs up and thumbs down can have different meaning to different people in different situations.

Time to get this post relevant to the topic, and that's I don't think it's a thumbs down that is the problem, it's the attitude/behaviour of some posters. Try to understand that your opinion is just an opinion, not right, not wrong, an opinion. And if someone has a different opinion, well good on them.

Try to treat each poster as if they are someone you really respect, then converse with them that way. Respectfully. From what I've seen in here, most people do already.

Anyway, I'll get off the soapbox, thanks Kul for removing the thumbs down and trying to help.

How do you manage when you're confronted with actual real-life problems?

What are you talking about?
You can't just make statements like this and then not bother to elaborate, I can't read your mind,
What's your point and thoughts about my post?

On a scale of 1 to 10, where
10 is the loss of a loved one, and
1 is some spilt milk that had to be wiped up
I would have thought a thumbs down by a stranger on the internet, who you will never meet, and whose opinions will have no bearing on your life, is a 0.

Actually, it means that you have 0 (zero) understanding of this problem,
And it also means that you have zero respect for the person who realised that this is a serious problem and created this thread.

a thumbs up and a thumbs down is a serious problem? like seriously?

I said zero respect because @TillLindemann analogy is disregarding all the serious reasons that the administrater saw which then made him decide to take this action.

Saying things and denying that there was a problem and then using analogy to make it look like it was hardly worth worrying about such as "spilt milk" yes, all of this shows that there is a lack of understanding, or, disregard and disrespect.
