Rank the Players /Positions /Teams

@ said:
Not sure how you can rate players in certain positions. It would depend on the type of player you want. e.g fullback. Slater & Boyd 1 &2\. One is a runner and the other a ball player.

I would rate Hopoate & Gordon as average, yet would have Dylan Edwards a lot further up the list

Slater was one of the easier decisions along with Smith and Thurston , to a lesser extent the props and Taumalolo

On what form are people rating Tedesco so highly?
Poor 2017
Average SOO series
Pathetic for Italy
He is not top 5 for mine. Slater, Boyd and Trbojevic are head and shoulders above him. They are all playing on a different level. RTS, Duges, Holmes and Gutho more often than not have him covered as well.

Awesome effort Happy Tiger.
Unfortunately though you got every list wrong.

Well at least I achieved something

Haha just hacking on you. As an overall ranking of teams, i think you got us right. Coming into the season, the good judges have us missing the 8 and with multiple good reasoning. I think a massive back half to the year will see us scrape in but a lot of work has to be done first. Itll be an interesting year.

Supposedly he just missed on Players player at SOO for NSW

He might've slipped back on the my list if Inglis or Gutherson had played all season

His whole career. He wasn't at his best in 2017 but there were probably reasons for that. Boyd had a poor 2017 as well.

Dugan and Holmes do not have the ball playing that Tedesco does. RTS doesn't really either. Slater, Tedesco, Trbojevic and Boyd are all great runners of the ball that also have great passing games, which is why I rate them as the top 4\. Gutherson hasn't spent as much time at fullback and is not as great a runner of the ball as any of them for mine.

Really? That is silly. He got steadily worse as the pressure of the series went on. Slater taught him so many lessons he needed to be carrying a notebook out there. Oh well, I stand by my call. Tommy will take his jumper this series.

Tedesco is a ball player?
Not in my view. He is a hog who occasionaly offloads to someone he has crabbed into the sideline. Most of his passes are to guys in a worse position than him. Hes a running fullback with poor defensive positioning and a weak passing game.

You're just going off 2017, he had 14 try assists in 2015 and 12 try assists in 2016\. He set up a lot with that brilliant tap-on of his that was rarely seen in 2017.

Still poor passing game. Compared with Slater and Boyd who have ball skills like a 5/8 he has the ball skills of a winger.

He has a good passing game for a fullback and we would've done better last year if he'd used it more. His passing game will improve over time just like those of Slater and Boyd if he starts to use it again instead of ball hogging.

When a guy looks at space and his first instinct is to break through the gap himself i dont class him as a ball player. He has never not done this.

As a fullback you need both to survive as a top player

Most fullbacks who come from a fullback background running game would be the first thing you develop so natural instinct would make you look at run first

Slater's ball playing skills developed as he got older , Tedesco may get better as well

Also the threat of a good running game as a fullback creates space and helps create the ball playing aspect of your game

Which NRL team has the best spine?

10:44 AM AEDT
Darren Arthur
ESPN

The players filling the roles of hooker, halfback, five-eighth and fullback form the backbone of any rugby league team, and hence the four positions have become known collectively as the team's spine. It is plain to see that a team's hopes of NRL premiership glory are slim if it doesn't have quality players in these vital positions.

The 2018 NRL season will open with more spines having been adjusted than in the local chiropractor's office. With the players settling into their new colours, ESPN has taken a new scientific approach to determining which team came out on top after the great halves shuffle We have gathered five key statistics from the 2017 season, averaged them out per game played and totalled those figures to give a definitive number.

Melbourne Storm, last year's premiers come out on top, even after losing Cooper Cronk to Sydney Roosters. Statistically at least, the Storm lose very little with Brodie Croft slipping on the purple No. 7 jersey.

More surprising was the position taken up by last year's beaten grand finalists, North Queensland Cowboys. Any spine boasting Michael Morgan and Johnathan Thurston would seem to be worthy of a more lofty ranking, but Lachlan Coote and Jake Granville let the team down statistically – particularly Coote's running metres.

The Panthers slip into second place after welcoming high-performing five-eighth James Maloney from the Sharks. Fullback Dylan Edwards gives them a boost as well with his ability to run the ball.

The Rabbitohs are surprisingly high on the list, but their fourth position owes a lot to the way Greg Inglis played in 2016\. After a season on the sidelines, it will be interesting to see whether he will be back to his best.

Of course, a high-quality spine does not necessarily guarantee premiership success; New Zealand Warriors were solid proof of this last season, when they boasted one of the best spines ever assembled yet still finished the campaign just two wins above the wooden spoon.

KEY:

P = points, T = tackles, TE = tackle efficiency, M = metres run, TA = try assists

Perfect proof that statistics can mean bugger all in football. Cowboys spine ranked 13th, well behind Newcastle….. says it all.

Made me laugh too, JT reads the game better than any player I have seen, obviously the stats they are using have no bearing on this.
