Rankin in doubt to take on Canterbury

Wests Tigers have been struck a blow with fill-in fullback Jordan Rankin rolling an ankle, putting further strain on their already depleted line-up.

Rankin was sent for scans on Wednesday shortly after suffering the injury at training and is in doubt for Saturday's NRL clash with Canterbury.

The Tigers will already be without regular No.1 James Tedesco because of State of Origin duties as well as senior players Robbie Farah and Aaron Woods.

Club officials and teammates said they were optimistic Rankin would be OK to play as their top eight hopes go on the line.

If Rankin pulls up short, Justin Hunt shapes as his most likely replacement while Tim Simona played fullback for Samoa in this year's Pacific Test against Tonga and could be moved from the wing.

"He rolled his ankle at training this morning but I'm pretty sure he'll be right for the weekend," winger David Nofoaluma said.

"I think it was more a precaution and I'm sure he'll be sweet."

Hunt has played just one game this year - ironically at fullback against the Dogs in round 10.

His night was soured after he was reported for an ugly high tackle on Bulldogs playmaker Moses Mbye as Des Hasler's side ran out 36-4 winners.

If Rankin fails to pull up well then I'd debut Heleta at fullback.

Reynolds is out for NSW. What's the bet Brooks or Moses gets called up??

Maybe a recall for Moylan or J. Reynolds?

Hopefully Jennings & Fergo are also out meaning a call-up for the Morris bros! Laurie is a Tigers fan isn't he?

Add Mbye to Qld & that will do nicely!

Plenty other players in for before them
These 2 would be absolute liabilities at this stage of their careers if the got picked for SOO Game 3 2016

Wouldnt it be nice to see the Morris Bros NOT line up against us on Friday
They are solid performers..

No chance. After the game 1 fiasco there is no chance NSWRL will cross swords with Hasler again. Des gets what Des wants….

We have a few options at least.
- Heleta
- Hunt
- Moses to fullback, Littlejohn to 5/8

Hunt to replace Rankin…..easy and we lose nothing

Rankin has been a solid performer lately, played very well vs Penrith.
If good performances are to be rewarded then Heleta should be given a call-up, he was outstanding vs Warriors in reggie's last week.
If Rankin is out then it would be great to see Littlejohn onto the bench to be our 2nd hooker…...if Elijah's talent is wasted by being used as our 2nd dummy half then the game is as good as lost IMO.

Heleta for mine, I liked what I saw in his game last weekend. Like the 'good' Nofo, but can play fullback.

As mentioned by some others Heleta had a very strong game in reggies last week.
Big step up here but he looked solid.
