Rd 3. What's acceptable?

When I watch them play, I see something missing. Enthusiasm for the challenge, desire.
That’s what beat us, Knights had it and we didn’t.
Knights had their 2 best players taken out early from their spine, but Hastings and Gamble stood up. It was their infectious enthusiasm which won the game for them.
You simply don’t get high error counts when you’re up for the challenge. The coaches need to find out where the speed bumps are and remove them.
This might be an unpopular opinion but when get back to all available players I’m either leaving Stef out or dropping him to the bench. He is not ready.
Our forward pack at full strength should be Joe, Api, Klem, Ice, Batman, and one of Pole or Matumua.
With Twal, Blore, Laurie or Simpkin and either Pole or Matumua on the bench.
Stef comes in when we have an injury. He is plodding at the moment.

He is just making too many mistakes. Limit his game time or drop him but he'll come good soon.

Or at least I hope he will.

Agree, good idea to have Stef coming off the bench. I don’t know that he started under Maguire, did he?

Stef shows promise every now and then however when you compare him with the elite props his work rate and willingness is so far below their level. A couple of tough hit ups in a game is not good enough for a starting prop. When he can consistently hit 150 plus metres a game then he can start, otherwise he plays off the bench or in reggies.
Honestly the guy needs to have a long hard look at himself and ask himself if he really wants to be something or not. He’s got the goods but he needs an attitude adjustment in my opinion.
He provides a perfect opportunity to see whether Sheens or Benji are worth anything as coaches, as a good coach could get the best from Stef.

We need a
We pay them too well to fail. It attracts a type and it's so ingrained I have no idea how we break the cycle under the current system. Maguire tried, Cleary bailed, and the supporter base keep backing the coach until he fails and expects the next one to make a difference.
The problem lies with the squad and the lack of accountability to each other. They go to other teams with those who want to win playing next to them, and there is no way they get away with half arsed performances and stay in FG.
Until we get some leadership on the field and some ownership within the playing group same old crap.
We need a leader on the field to step up, don't care what his name is!!!!

Ill say:
within 6 points.

The dogs have been on and off. We have been Off.
I would like a win, but based off the last two weeks I don't see that happening. Luck may or may not favour us.

What I want to see:
Defence, structure and a real effort to keep the other side down.
Stef, Twal and the other Tigers step up.
Attacking Structure, we need to be creating opportunities.
Heck a few Sheen's set plays would go a long way.

If we see Random fastball then the Board need to have a hard word again.

I want to see our backline and halves lined out like the top teams and with FB and or edge forward run around creating overlap and wingers put into space . The Dolphins were textbook yesterday and they are a New Team . Their match report headline " wingers run riot "
I don't want to see Twal or Joffa or Steph burning 5th tackle crashing into defence line

Can’t see that happening. I watched most of the Dolphins v Knights and the difference with our team is depressing.
Every weekend there’s a team with one or two ex Tigers players showing great enthusiasm and leadership. Again it was Hastings and Gamble who kept Knights in the game with $5m of their cap watching from the stand.
We’re not going to see a classic backline move giving wingers open space because we don’t have a Wayne Bennet, we have a 2 game novice.
What we do have though, is a team capable of making the 8, but it’s not going to happen.

I hear you and I think it can work with the right player.

I spent 35 years in the Army and have studied leadership closely. What I have leaned is that you can coach leadership, but you can't make a leader. You can appoint someone - but that just sets a low standard that others will emulate.

Let me caveat my next few points. I am not involved with the club or playing group so everything I am about to say is from what I have heard from AD in interviews, from third hand information and my observations of him on the field.

From what I gather, AD does all the things off the field and around the club that demonstrates that he has leadership potential. He also clearly understands what leadership is about and has great intentions. The litmus test for leadership is when you operate under duress. Fortunately players are under duress every week so you can confidently identify leaders.

I have seen plenty of parade ground soldiers wearing rank and who look great in a pressed uniform. They say all of the right things to all of the right people and are placed in charge of the lives of young soldiers because, on paper, they have the right leadership qualities. I put AD into this category. Unfortunatley, some of these guys (and girls) completely fall apart on operations and the real leaders are unearthed.

In our game you can test leadership weekly. Unfortunately AD, for all his good intentions and desires, he is not an on field leader. He tries too hard to lead and takes on too much responsibility and in doing so misses all of the things that would make him excel. He doesn't do the 1%ers, he fades out of games and appears disinterested and his basic skills in defence, at 5/8, are appalling. So although AD has some very good leadership traits; he can't be a leader.

You can appoint him as a leader, but you will get exactly what you promote. Players won't do the 1%ers because the Captain is not setting the standard. He can't pull others up, because he isn't doing it himself. If he wants to be a leader he needs to take a good look in the mirror and check the reality of what is staring back at him. If he works hard, he could be the Tigers Captain - but he needs to do a lot of work.

Leadership finds the individual - not the other way around. If AD can develop himself as an individual - leadership roles may follow. But for now he is a follower!
Possibly the best post I've ever read here. Thank you!

I hope they do win,but the only thing acceptable to me is that Sheens tells Benji to take a back seat, get the note pad and pen and start taking notes,Sheens is head coach and he needs to start producing to his reputed skills Benji is the APPRENTICE,look and learn Benji ...
Sheens really has to take responsibility for these last performances,he needs to show all and sundry why he was prefered over other coaching applicants....its that simple....
I agree with all you say TT

Tommy Raudonikis and Wally Lewis come to my mind reading this
