Reallistic Assesment....

Not making the 8: fail
Finishing higher than expected: pass

The start we had changed mine and most everyone's expectations.

Prior to the start of the year if I was told we were going to finish 9th I would have called that a success. After the start we had not making the 8 is a fail.

"It doesn't matter if you try and try and try again and fail. It does matter if you try and fail, and fail to try again." They might fail to make the 8 but as long as they give it their best shot and keep trying, they will someday succeed.

I feel like you just want instant success, with the mob we have that might be difficult to achieve. I didn't say impossible but difficult. From what I saw so far from them they will keep trying. That's the culture we are building. Give them another year together then pass on judgment.

Laughable post

explain what's laughable about it? this mob didn't come together two or three years ago, most of them just started playing together this year… so please tell me what's laughable about my post.

It’s laughable because you are accusing someone who doesn’t think it’s acceptable to see his side miss the finals for a 7th consecutive season of wanting instant success. Every year is the same “have some patience. Next year is our year”. Well it never is, and some supporters are pretty tired of it.

you conveniently just left out or didn't see the words I said after instant success, "the mob we have"… if you expect them to be at their very best when they just started playing together then all good. anyway, even in the NBA or any other sport they are given some leeway to gel together - this thread is about "realistic" assessment and I think I am with TT and happy when it comes to how we are assessing it and I'll echo what happy said "position is not everything", we can agree to disagree so all good... but I will still hope we make the 8 this year, next year will be tougher to stomach if they don't make the 8... go WEST TIGERS!!!

Excuses excuses. You must have missed how well they played together at the beginning of the season.

This is a great post. We all want success but at the same time we have to be realistic. New coach, a lot of new players, new culture. We’ve had bad luck with injuries and referees have cost us atleast 2 games that I can remember (broncos and roosters). This group is competing in every game and I go into each game thinking we could win this. I can’t remember the last time I had that feeling.

Next year will be a different story. It would be Ivan’s second pre season, and we would have a core of players who would be playing together for the second year. The re building will be over and it will be time for results.

I understand some posters being impatient for success as they demanded the same from the JT era. I don’t understand the posters who were still calling for patience on JT after 2 1/2 years now being impatient with Cleary after half a season.

The bar was raised at the beginning of the year. You can't see us play that well then turn around and say this squad needs time. Excuses excuses.

So your saying injuries to key players have had no impact on us? Or key players like your favourite lolohea not turning up has had no impact. Or key refereeing decisions that have cost us at least 2 games. Your agenda is so obvious, start supporting the team mate not ex coaches who are no longer here.

Packer has been back for weeks

Reynolds was out when we were winning anyway

Marshall has been struggling for weeks and arguably shouldn't be there anyway

Noffa hasn't even been in the side when fit.

Tui lol. Run him down, but throw him on the list to give the argument a bit more credibility

Liddle - Him being injured wasn't the problem. The problem was not picking a dummy half to replace him

If it makes you feel good, keep believing your own fake news.

Fake news?
It's an opinion.

It's funny when people jump on the bandwagon of catch phrases without even using it in context.

Oh here comes the girlfriend. So let’s quote
“Noffa hasn’t even been in the side when fit”

Has nofa not Played the last 3 games on the wing? Have we not missed him? Is this an opinion or is he stating a fact. Enlighten me oh wise one.

I thought "Packerlino" were going to be the great difference that we needed. They havnnt been - patchy at best. Reynolds hasnt played enough to be fairly critiqued.
So Im assuming that the players that were going to make the difference havnt lived up to expectation.?
Or is the angle behind the criticism the start of chipping away at the coach?
Anyone who can honestly consider this current squad any better than the current top eight is kidding themselves. Farah and Mybe will make a difference but will we will still be in a dog fight to make the eight considering our run home.

I am not making excuses mate. I am just being realistic. We did play well early in the season. Did we win those games by thrashing the teams we played? No, we were lucky to win some of them.

Again, they are giving it their all. I am sure they would have set a goal to make the 8 or to play finals footy but not to make it doesn't mean it's an utter failure. “winning isn’t everything, but wanting to win is.”

and again, position isn't everything.
