All the carryon about the Uluṟu Statement from the Heart is also crazy. Some say it’s a one page poster about the country coming together others state it’s a multiple page document discussing strategies and intentions to become a separatist nation partly funded by reparations in the form of a percentage of GDP being diverted to it.
Who is correct?
It seems irresponsible to find out once the constitution has been changed, yet that’s what Albo is suggesting we do.

Its ridiculous. If they are asking people to vote to change the Constitution, they should list exactly what the amendment would be, in detail, exactly as it will be written in the Constitution so we can determine the full extent of it. They either think we are too stupid to understand it (we are not) or they are hiding the detail for a reason.

I am also concerned and disappointed that they have jammed two questions into one in the referendum which means that I will be voting against something I would like to happen.

The referendum asks...

"A Proposed Law: to alter the Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia........(Yes is my vote, yes I would like to recognise the first peoples of Australia in the Constitution)..................... by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice. (No is my vote without greater detail of what exactly the amendment would be and what the parameters are and the scope).

Its two questions in one and overall Ill be voting no, but would like to vote yes for the first part. IMO its very sneaky and they have done it intentionally because people will be just voting yes to the first part without considering the second.

Im not conspiratorial but I do have to wonder why they are being sneaky with this.

I was personally shocked to see the very poor health care services in the remote communities I've visited. As someone mentioned, certain chronic illnesses/medical conditions are prevalent and with the nearest hospital a hundred or couple of hundred kilometres away, I could only imagine the difficulty they'd face with getting basic medical treatment.
Other Aboriginal communities I've visited depend on the RFDS - which were based or located 4-6 hours away at Broken Hill. However, it usually took 8 hours in waiting time to get someone flown to Sydney.

The history of Aboriginal missions is distressing. Don't know too much about Aboriginal reserves and stations or the missions that were established in NSW, but I've met people from both Yarrabah and Cherbourg (during studies). All aspects of their lives were controlled by from Mission managers (incl. when and what they could eat) and if that wasn't bad enough, persons from different tribes were placed onto them and they usually had conflict due to simple miscommunication (language barriers) and the varied traditions they practised - which was actually prohibited to use under Australian law (Protection Act. ??), at that time.
Prior to the 70s the children from some of these missions didn't gain a proper education and were trained as station hands. The residents weren't allowed to leave at will either.

Cootamundra Girls and Kinchela Boys Homes not only removed children from their homes but babies too. Some of their stories are heartbreaking as they were only ever trained as domestic servants, receiving no education and simple display of affection.

Families were usually separated during the process. A father and son may have ended up on the same mission, the daughter taken to a girl's home but the mother relocated to the nearest reserve, station or mission etc.,

I don't think these communities receive much funding or it barely touches on each issue tbh but yeah if it weren't for the 1969 referendum who knows what would've occured for the general Aboriginal population. Believe the aforementioned Act. expired during/from this.

AFAIK only a signed treaty would affect sovereign power.

Can you explain to me why we need to change the Constitution to help them?

A democracy is built on debate mate and sharing ideas. Or you can shy away from it. If you don't want to keep an open mind, then that's your prerogative, but don't demonize others for wanting to hear people's viewpoints.

Its political, the referendum is political and therefore its a political discussion

well a referendum is quite literally the only opportunity for 'the people' to make the rules (all other law is judge or parliament made) so this and all referendum is literally your only chance to "make the rules". Trouble is the government is not telling you what rule you are making.

It’s pretty obvious.
There isn’t enough information at hand to make an informed decision.
Everyone’s opinions are decent reading, but as suspected when I started this thread, we are all stumbling in the dark on this one and it’s going to start a lot of shit when the NO vote inevitably gets up.
