Remember Royston Lightning?

Was driving to work this morning when his name just jumped into my head. He played for the Raiders for a couple of years in the '90s, looked set for a big career then just vanished. Ended up playing in the Queensland league, I think.

Recently saw his name mentioned on a few other forums.
LU had his name mentioned in a thread titled players who never reached their potential.
I must say, that is a name you could set your watch to.

watched him in the arrive alive cup or whatever it was called playing for Erindale and then had a year, maybe two at Canberra then disappeared.

I did a search for him a few years ago asking on forums & to this day I have no idea whether the answers I got were sarcasm or not.

"He got fat" being that answer.

He was certainly a remarkable player.

Well Senexx he is definitely playing in North Qld or Cental West Qld can't remember exactly where I saw his name . Fat is still a good description of him but that happens when you get older .

Happy, I certainly agree with your latter point. It is the reason we see many in the backline shift to lock & second row. However, at the time I meant the period after he played for Canberra (ie. when he was still younger) up to present.

Whilst he may not be playing first grade, I wonder if he is still an explosive type player.

Played for Australian schoolboys in 95 and 96 with a heap of future stars (including Payton in 96) then went to Canberra until 99.
He signed with St George in 2000 but never played a game for them.
Apparently he was quoted as saying he was his own worst enemy - blew out from 85kg to 120kg and had problems with the drink.
Last I know was he got the weight off and was playing in Cairns and then for Mackay Cutters in QLD Cup (until 2009)but he doesn't seem to be in their current squad
