Reputation ????

Nothing, absolutely NOTHING - just like rep points have nothing to do with 'cyber bullying' or new members being 'disrespected'

But you blokes whinging about something so petty, I thought post counts and join dates might be appropriate as well

Just cause some might not agree with this Reputation thing , why get all defensive about it ?
What is the concept in this Reputation thing explain it , what is the difference in responding "great post agree with it for whatever reason" or "disagree with it for whatever reason .
The Point is new Forumers can be put of by having negative Rep points, that is it …..

If a member decides to be belligerent, abusive, and generally useless when it comes to contributing to a thread, they will be neg repped. If they can constructively criticise and make good contributions, they needn't worry.

The whole idea is to generally improve the quality of discussion.

people come on and post.
in their own opinion, it is considered to be making a contribution.
then other people will give it a neg rep , just because they don't agree or see his/her his point of view.
how will this be stopped from happening?

how can you control personality clashes that occur on here from time to time, which may end in constant neg repping ?

Reputation who needs it! I for one speak my mind and to hell with it ,I'm just glad I have an avenue to be able to do it and like to read every ones opinion good or bad . Freedom of speech is what it's all about so I will not rate anybody as we all have the right to speak our mind! I don't uderstand this concept as I'm from a different generation .

Good question. Unfortunately you can't, but if anyone feels they have received a negative rep unfairly, PM one of the mods or admins and we'll take an objective look at the post.

Everything Willow has said is spot on. Measures are in place to help mitigate that this time around anyway.

So does anyone know if Alien is back on the boards under a different name? He had a great time with the last version of this

Will there be a way to turn off seeing your own and other's rep?

I'm with you , just don't understand the concept in it (that is all) and i'll leave it at that….

Nope, we would have noticed the spam by now

As for your second question, I'll leave that it in the hands of the technical genius otherwise known as Kul…

no there isn't. I'll have a coding that manually but tbh that will be towards the end of my to-do list at the moment.

well it had the opposite effect last time.
what will make it different this time?

board was full of sheep looking for rep points.
wonder what my rep would have been if it was around when we signed blair.

instead of a rep score how about a forum where we can read posts without avatars overlapping text when you need to zoom 150%.

It didn't work last time around largely because there were one or two serial idiots who ruined it for everyone.

If it doesn't work this time, it will in all likelihood be removed again. It hasn't simply been brought in for the sake of it, and the system has been tweaked a bit this time around.

I'm a tad worried that the opinions of some on here which currently make for decent discussion will become stifiled. I like the idea of a bit of order here on the forums, and thats what makes it a better place to come to than the likes of LU where trolling and slinging monkey faeces reigns supreme.

Having a rep free forum I think over the last 6-12 months (or however long it has been, sorry) has made people be a bit more free wheeling without thoughts, opinions and ideas. True there have been some complete drongoes on here in the meantime, but surely that has been overridden by constructive debate.

I can't help but think that diversity of opinion and idea will be somewhat watered down. The biggest impact will be threads such as the Politics Thread where people are fiercely passionate about their beliefs, and it brings out the best (and sometimes the worst) of discussion. It would be a shame to see people second guessing potential quality posts, and censoring themselves in a thread like that.

Just my two cents.

it wasn't 1 or 2.the whole place was vanilla and bland.
there was more rep action than actual posts.
mods were so focused on alien you couldn't see the whole picture.

Hey Bonstonker, if you press the CTRL+ keys it should clear that problem up - worked for me. I couldn't stand that other view and wanted to go back to the old full screen view without the avatars blocking the text. Ink told me about it.

what browser are you using.
with chrome i had no change, still doing the same.
new post thing on the right takes up a 1/4 of my screen.wish i could just close that option as well.
