You did a brilliant destruction when you were involved in the Balmain Tigers Club Benny. Now you want to do the same for Wests Tigers.

Whatever happened to the redevelopment plans for the Balmain Leagues club?

Development application passed council. Current hold up is state government have flagged they may (probably) want to forcibly acquire the site for the construction of the western harbour tunnel though official process hasnt commenced. If they don't acquire it - construction can commence. If they do - approx 7 year delay.

Thanks.
Now I understand why no one was exactly excited about the news, given the process/timeline.

Yep - even if the State gov dont acquire the site (which i doubt but who knows) - construction is 2/3 years. If they do - 10 years away minimum

Loved Benny as a player, but not afterwards.....

Wasn't he pushing us to move to Perth?

Exactly, he and Tony Sage were talking us up to move to Perth. He does have an eye for a bargain though so I'd be a little concerned if he's sniffing around.

Also, the business is only worth 8 - 10 million? Should be closer to 40 - 50 million in a few years time.

It’s not going to happen West’s Ashfield don’t need an equity partner to give up control of the footy club. West’s Ashfield don’t need the money. The West’s Tigers are no longer a financial drain on the leagues club.

The article makes zero sense from a commercial perspective. If someone wants to acquire a footy club from a very successful owner ie West’s Ashfield they would have to blow them out of the water or West’s would seek not to be involved in Rugby League.

Once upon a time I would have been 100% against it. Now, I still am, but I’d at least like to hear the plans and see who the very wealthy backers are before completely disregarding it.

If it gets rid of our board I’m all for it

Have you seen the disaster that is on Victoria Road and has been for years? You wouldn't want Elias having control of anything to do with Wests Tigers.

I have but I’ve also seen the disaster on parramatta road, and I think it’s worse.

Do you mean Concord? If so you have to be kidding. It will be a place for elite athletes and occupied by the Wests Tigers. The buildings are progressing well and within a short period of time of it being announced. The exact opposite to what Elias has had a hand in on Victoria Road.

I was referring to administration rather than the physical structure.

Still better than anything Elias touches.

Not sure I agree with that. I think it would be impossible to do worse than what our current ownership/board have done.

That is just a lack of imagination :grinning:

With that valuation would it not put it between $16-20 million if he is only after just over 50%?

He used to either have a stake in or be on the board of Perth Glory.

I’m so divided on this in so many ways. There are pros and cons to private ownership. There are pros and cons to Benny’s involvement.

Yeah how would they help us off the bottom of the latter as they claim?

Genuine question, is this a betoota advocate special? We would be better off burning the joint down than having back door Benny with a controlling share.

It’s pretty much burnt down as it is

If this happens I would probably stop supporting the club. I understand the days of community run clubs are over, but Elias basically scammed Balmain out of any chance of survival and I will not forgive him and could not support his club.

Plus, he 100% will move the club to Perth.
