Revealed: Secret bid to buy battling Tigers

Why not publicly list the club at 50% so any members /supporters etc could buy into the organisation like the Broncos ..I would be interested with a percentage of independent regulated board members in conjunction with WA board members ..just a thought . I was at Flemington Markets this morning and parked near the Tigers club , WA now has the licences for all of Balmains ex clubs poker machines so will they be handed over to a new consortium ? If so the 10million offered is chump change so why would WA even consider that offer .
The main heading is misleading as well the Weststigers are battling on field but are one of only a few that are not in financial difficulty.

The offer is for a controlling stake in the Wests Tigers and has nothing to do with the poker machine licences.

So now its up to 15 mil - club should hold out - might get double that. In all seriousness WA should probably counter offer with 39.5% for the 15 mil. That would mean WA would still hold 50.5 %, Benny and the Jets 39.5% and Balmain 10%. WA still maintain control but allows new blood and fresh ideas to the board. Realistically i can't see WA giving up control unless they sell up 100%.

How much did Elias tell the Balmain leagues board they were going to receive ?.. I also get the feeling Cash for Comment is a field !

Doesn’t need to be listed you already have that model. west Ashfield is not a corporation... it’s members own the joint ... hence they vote in the board etc

In the media coverage of this proposition I haven't seen one story mention Benny's role in the disastrous Balmain Leagues Club saga, yet it's an obvious point to be made. Surely some of our so-called, hard-hitting journalists would make the connection. I wonder when it will come up.

Never, it’s not the narrative that reflects badly on the Wests Tigers. The narrative is the Wests Tigers need saving.

Can someone clear something up for me please? What were the reasons of Balmain Leagues Club closing?

I thought that initially the BLC wanted to expand their club so they were firstly buying up adjacent properties. This was before Elias?

Multiple development plans were submitted to council and each were rejected because of height of planned unit towers?

I thought that was when Elias came in with different developers.

BLC building at Rozelle was vacated and temporary clubs set up at Five Dock bowls club and Flemington markets I thought because of NSW gov’t wanting to build new tunnel or rail system and wanted the Rozelle site for early construction setup? Then nothing happened from the gov’t side but Rozelle site was left neglected?

Doesn't Benny have business relationships with Tony Sage, the Perth Glory owner?

He does. He used to be on the board of glory. Not sure if that's still the case.

Pretty concise summary of what happened mate. The club was drowning in debt due in part to buying up adjacent property for the redevelopment. Benny's consortium bought the site in exchange for clearing the clubs debt. There were a number of rejected DA put in. The site was then going to be used by the government for the metro so the club moved out.

The metro was scrapped and more DAs were put in and rejected. BLC had to borrow more during this time including from the NRL, which resulted in the independent directors on the board.

Eventually BLC started to sell its only remaining assets, shares in the Wests Tigers. WA increased its share by paying off BLC's debts.

The government spoke about acquiring the site for a dive site for the tunnel, so Leichhardt council finally approved a development on the site.

Ok thanks mate.
I just wanted to be clear that Elias wasn’t to blame for all BLC problems.

No the NSW Labor Govt kick-started the whole thing.

But you don’t know that is the case. On the surface it would appear to be but you don’t know what influences were at play during the whole process from beginning until the site was sold to the Elias consortium.

Damn right I don’t but given his recent ‘I’ve had to wait patiently for 10 years’ comment and the rumblings I heard at the time I have my suspicions.

Close, but your timings are out. Benny bought the club after it was drowning in debt due to buying the adjacent properties. Benny's team had the ridiculous property da's that would never get approved. They were too greedy for their own good. And because they wouldn't budge on their 30+ storeys nothing ended up happening until they sold a decade later and the new mob put forth a more reasonable development which got approved

But then on the other hand if he gets control of Wests Tigers he may do us a very big favor..not..in bringing his charming slimy nephew M. Moses back to us :smiling_imp:  next year, as I believe he still hasnt signed a contract extension with Parra.
Now there's something to think about eh!!!
