All I can say is wow, I can not believe the attitude of some poster in this thread including the op. Alex suffered a broken neck, you do realise that is much worse than a broken ankle right. Tuiaki is one of my favourite ever players but would probably be embarrassed to be compared to Alex. I know Alex's family quite well and I can garantee you that this $ will not just go to Alex.

The NRL dropped the ball big time with Simon Dwyer but that doesn't mean they have to keep neglecting players into the future.

No, they have to make recompense for those they've treated shabbily, like our very own, Simon Dwyer. Saying and doing nothing won't change anything for Simon. As for your comment about the $ not just going to Alex …..who are we contributing to then? I hope your comments weren't intended to make me feel better. I'm just as annoyed at the double standard as ever.

I think you'll find most people are over it …the league has something to hide .. They should be the ones looking after Alex ,, and the countless players who have suffered career ending injuries over the years .the Nrl got 1.2 billion over 5 years ,it's time they started putting some cash away for situations just like Alex ,, and Simon and the tank ...not getting the punter to pay for their errors ...jarred mccrackens career was ended but the game didn't seem to care....it's not our game anymore ,,so why should we pay when players get injured.

I think the major difference between Alex's injury and TNT and Dwyer's injury is one was caused by an illegal tackle and the other weren't caused by illegal plays

I wonder if at some stage whether McKinnon will sue like Jarrod McCracken did sue Marcus Bai ??

More like 'Rise for Player Insurance' AMIRITE?

Whilst it's a great initiative from the NRL, it's awkward that this rogue round has players paying tribute before their games to what looks like a minute silence to some fallen life.

If insurance existed this would not leave these players like Alex in this predicament hopelessly and aimlessly wondering how they will fund the rest of their life in a wheelchair. So going from now, if another player suffers the same fate as Alex there will be a round dedicated to him? As public stakeholders we are there to enjoy the product and not fund an employees disability pension - that should be on the NRL. Other codes have systems in place and we come off looking damn amateur.

I can't help but think this is a convenient strategy to get more crowds through the gates to an otherwise poor attendance expectation during these rounds of the season.

I think it's a bit of both. I admire Alex's courage and respect what he's going through. He deserves everything that the NRL, the knights and the fans provide for him but the whole marketing behind 'rise for Alex' seems forced into your face type of promotion with players putting their hands on their heart and at the same time spitting as well.

It feels like the NRL is using this to show everyone look how much we care about our players, were such a close knit community etc etc etc. I'm not 100% sure of their motives behind this. And the way they treated (or they didn't treat) other players suffering career ending or even life threatening injuries is a little evidence of that.

Hopefully though, this sets a benchmark should any of these unfortunate cases do occur.

I agree with Balmain Boy to some extent, it's unfortunate it took an injury as serious as McKinnon to make the NRL recognise these negative outcomes of the trade.

I'm wondering why $1 from every ticket sold every week can't go into an insurance fund for the whole club, and why this wasn't happening years ago.

Very emotional scenes at Hunter. Think Alex was a bit overwhelmed.

Looks the have excellent movement of his arms but not his hands. Has come a long way in a short time
