While we all want to see results on the field, realistically you have to take into account a few more details.
Clearly the board feel that there is a salary cap issue that the previous board either overlooked or were unable to assess.
There seems to be a clear directive from the top down to the coaching staff to revamp the playing squad & blood the young players.
The coaching staff have issued a plan to change the style & 'culture' of this club, and the board/ CEO etc are all saying they support this.
However good/bad previous coaches Sheens & Potter were, the board are clearly trying to remove the power struggles each had (different types of power struggle in my opinion) with both the board & the players.
The Tigers board might not be heavy on football experience, but even a rank amateur, as most of us here are, can understand that playing inexperienced players, cutting overpaid expensive players & signing cast-offs & guys looking for an opportunity does not necessarily equal instant success.
This club is in a transition/building phase.
The anti-JT crowd might want to believe the hook is close & barely concealed, but I'm firmly believing the board intend to give him his 3 years. I expect next year again will not 'be about the results, but the performance' which will make a lot of jaws clench here.
But think about it- the Sheens teams at the end were playing half interested football, and seemed more focused on what happened off field.
Potter's team stopped putting in half way through his last year.
They MAY have had better results than JT did last year, but JT's team was trying all season. I did not see the fold. A clear lack of experience to finish games off, and lack of depth, were JT's biggest issues with this squad.
I think last year- the Tigers were playing as a team. Something I can't say I've seen for a few seasons.
I think JT will be given the time to build this mythical 'culture' that people scoff at, and develop these younger guys into that culture.
People laugh at the anti-Robbie feelings on the board, but nearly all are willing to lay the boot into JT, who has every card stacked against him since coming in. Low talent roster, low experience, no cash.
Maybe we really should look beyond 'results' & try to find the positives in performance. Results follow performance, not the other way around.
