Robbie Farah..Discussion Thread.....

Hey GC,I can understand your love for Robbie ….myself I congratulate him on his career at the WTs....but he was always a high paid player, not coach ,CEO,or chairperson..
Taylor is the boss and should not be undermined by a strong personality who is paid to play not coach.....I try to see all sides of an arguement and at the moment every drama in recent years have all nearly involved Robbie....so,who is right and who is wrong..? I'm not privy to information from the club and all the hearsay refering to Robbie and hatred toward Taylor only makes for heated debates..maybe if Robbie goes and Taylor can manage and coach the team without hinderence for the next two years,we may climb well above many teams,if not then hate on him all you and others like,I will give him the benefit until this mess is sorted out...

"Recent reports claim."
There's your problem.

mate from everything you've written to your comments under what other people express, then claiming people like myself are trolls…...
it actually seems like you are the Troll here on this forum.

You have zero knowledge of how a football business is run, the same can be said about your understandings of basic employment laws in this country and yet you seem to send out these comments implying that everyone else who has a differing opinion from yours is an idiot.

we may be fans. we may share differing opinions, but mate, some of us here on this forum are educated. We understand whats legal illegal within the context of this discussion and we certainly understand what is media fluff and what is "our own opinion on what we have seen thus far"

I've only called you a troll, no one else. Your too obvious.

I can assure all that a hug part of the supporter base actually supports the club on this issue ..and the well connected sources please this is why no other club wants anything to do with him and it is not the money! There will be no compromise the line has been drawn and that is the way it should be , It will be Farah or the coach and I believe if there is a compromise Taylor will walk That will make you all happy Farah Rids 2 coaches in 2 yrs then it can really hit the fan!

from reading through a lot of the posts on this forum, i would tend to say that "most fans" who are on this forum do not agree with this / the club on this.
From what we saw at the actual game the other day i can 100% the majority that were at the game do not agree either.
it could well have been supporters from both teams boo'ing JT.
im just commenting on what we saw as opposed to "connected sources"
what i saw was a team rallying around Farah. and not just smiles and high fives…. really really rallying around their captain.
their coach on the other hand... not many looked to ...lets say..... enthusiastic

I find it hilarious that recent reports claim JT wants to sack Robbie because of the way he deals with losses. He hates losing and is filthy after a loss.

Apparently that isn't acceptable at a club such as the Wests Tigers.

JT probably wants to replace him with someone who can fit in with the new, current philosophy of the club - Wins don't matter as long as we continue to learn. Losses are more then acceptable and players shouldn't be upset and angry at continually losing football matches.

What a joke..

Well that rules out ever getting Bellamy, Hasler, Toovey, and Maguire as coaches.

As I understand it, it's not about how much he hates losing, but the manner in which he deals with losses and the impact on his teammates.

There needs to be a constructive response to losses.

To say he hates losing is fine, but my kid hates getting her nappy changed - doesn't mean her tantrums are the right response to the situation.

I thought I read in one of the many articles written over the past week that's what he said he may do. Hand over the captaincy next year, play in 2016 and seek an opportunity to play SL from 2017.

But who knows how this will pan out.

I reckon this ^ is going to be how it will pan out.
It's a happy medium.

I still think the best thing to do for all parties concerned is keep Robbie next year and as suggested previously maybe not as captain, come to an agreement that he moves on at the end of next season. Gives him time to say his farewells and have one last crack at origin. Its a compromise that sees WT gain and Robbie potentially gain. Lets face it he has little chance of finding a new club thats going to be able to accomodate him even at 3ook. Our cap is already stuffed next year beyond repair and moving Robbie on at a saving of 150-200 k is not going to offer a great deal of relief.
It will save some face for Robbie, the fans and WT

This may well happen, FWIW the ABC radio news just reported along the lines of the following "Wests Tigers management hope that Robbie and Taylor can find some common ground…"

I wasn't quick enough to make a note of the exact report, but that's the gist of it, as though they are trying to work out their differences.

This is a very interesting development.

If this is true this is the board softening, this is the board getting shaky knees.

Maybe they dont like the media absolutely giving it to them and asking for their head.

Maybe Robbie and Sam have tightened the screws.

Never a dull day

no idea if it's true but this is my biggest fear in this.

as my very first post on this matter said, you can't take emotion out of this… fans run on emotion and they are why this game has sponsors, money, tv rating etc. however, i doubt this decision was taken without knowing all of this- by far the biggest decision in my history would've been taken after a long hard thought.

Because the media says so. How gullible some people are.

Sorry Gallagher this mustn't be happening then if you don't like it. It was probably just a joke news story from channel 7.
I'm sorry for mentioning it.

I just think it dosnt matter what he does now some people just dont like him. Fair enough - I dont know him or have to deal with him, It seems like the players are able to move on pretty quickly- Ive watched the replay twice now and there was plenty of love toward Farah on the field from ALL the boys. If they are so worried about Farah getting cranky at them start winning more games - then everyone is happy.

i doubt they would've done the call without knowing this would happen.

or maybe the 'middle ground' they find was their plan all along
jokes, probably giving the ones in charge too much credit lol

definitely.
just to add to that, we've all dealt with people like robbie who sulk, whine and get angry when THEY lose and that's fine but more often than not these people hate it when they lose, it's not about the team. i dont personally know robbie so can't comment on him but this is a common trait i've seen in people.

TT it was purely a joke, and I don't hate anyone,
and I'd like to see the same resolution that you would.
I'd like to see the back of Taylor sooner than later, but up btillnow I didn't think that was possible , I don't see anything in him that proves he's a coach( at least not a head coach, but I certainly don't hate him .

Benji Marshall on NRL 360 tonight:

In 2012 both he and Robbie took $80,000 and $200,000 pay cuts respectively to keep the squad under the salary cap with the $400,000 outstanding to be paid to Robbie in 2016-17 in this current contract.

So in reality Robbie isn't on $900,000 a year but $700,000 a year for the next 2 years with the outstanding balance being what he is owed for past services (When he was killing it in the Sheen's days).

Benji's thoughts on Robbie as a person:

- Extremely passionate about everything he does - The Tigers
- As a result he isn't everybody's cup of tea
- Handles losses extremely hard
- Was the only person to put other players in line when they stuffed up whilst Benji was at the club up until 2013
- If he doesn't think something is being done in the best interests of the Tigers he doesn't take a backseat and lets his opinion be known

He also thinks that this whole situation is JT wanting to show who's boss by removing the only person with the balls to stand up him when he thinks things are being done wrong.

To be honest I'm a big fan of Robbie but considering what Benji has just shared on NRL360 it's no surprise JT wants to remove Robbie from the club. The only thing that makes it hard to cop is how much he has given to this club including the aforementioned pay cuts he took.

Such a difficult situation for the club and at the end of the day there will be no winner.

if a coach only wants yes men around him , then I also can see why Taylor wants him out

The situation is untenable.Get rid of this embarrassment of a board and coach before they appoint another dimwit to be the GM.

We are being eaten from the inside by people with Agendas to move us to Perth or worse Campbeltown.
For the record I am an ex Magpie.

Farah isnt perfect Tony, he needed to be pulled into line.

From what ive been told though he has changed his ways a little this year.Benji wouldnt be aware of this.

Unfortunately being the big personality at the club he is the young players seek him out when they have issues. This whole thing started because the young players kept going to Farah with their concerns on the coaching. Farah re-assured them for most of the season until recently he approached Taylor with the teams concerns.

Taylor wants Farah gone for no other reason than to eliminate the young players going to him. He doesnt like the way they look up to him as it kind of diminishes his role and influence on the playing squad.

This is just what ive been told, no more no less. Make of it what you will, see if sounds like truth.

Thanks Tony33 for the summary.

The question I have is why did the Board which has made a huge effort to improve the image of the club. allow Taylor and Reddy to meet with Farah and his agent? Clearly if what is alleged to have been said is true, both probably handled the situation as well as Taylor spoke at the post match press conference.

Farah may well be an arrogant self opinionated emotional sook , I've even heard he's not well liked amongst his origin peers .
But in this situation I'm backing him .
Taylor hasn't got a clue and he's the one that needs to depart !
