Robert Lui charged with assaulting girlfriend

What a shame. Just as he got Tigers supporters on his side he does something disgusting like this. I doubt he would play again. If I had kids no way would I take them to a game if he was playing.

Just want to say I would rather bring my kids up watching Todd Carney than someone like this.
 
I just can't read through all these (no doubt useful) messages. Just sooo disappointed that the teams season ends like this…again!
 
Lui = idiot. Two years in a row he allegedly assualts his partner. Last time she was pregnant. He got off then because she wouldn't go to court and give evidence against him thus effectievely ending the prosecution case. I hope his partner bats on with it this time. It's like the Greg Bird case where the victim refused to give a statement and then concocted some story to help get him off. A terrible message to be sending out to young women.

The whole "I only did it because I was hammered" excuse is a way of people avoiding responsibility for their own actions. I've done my fair share of stupid stuff when I've been drunk (but never belted anybody) but very rarely pull out that excuse after I sober up. If you can't handle your grog, don't drink, it is not difficult.
 
Firstly I hope the alleged victim Taleah Backo is ok and is receiving plenty of support, it must be a difficult time for her. Secondly I hope the child is OK.
The legal system will deal with the allegations (months down the track). The NRL and WTs will deal with the football side of things, in time. People need support in these alleged situations and people also need to take responsibility for their alleged actions if true.
 
I really hope this isn't true. He is a precocious young talent. If it is true, he has to go. We'll find a replacement.

Exactly right, well said. As disappointing as it is for the club it is a much bigger issue for his partner and children and Lui clearly has a problem that shouldn't be swept under the carpet.
 
The guy had a life line at the Tigers last time this happened. It's blatantly obvious he has now twice assaulted his girlfriend and mother of his child.

I hope for the good of the Tigers and the game that he is sacked and no other club picks his services up for quite sometime.

He needs to learn a lesson the hardway and not like others in the game who jump from club to club after their discretions off the field.

I hope his girlfriend (soon to be ex I would home) is doing ok and being looked after.

The other shame is that the Tigers let Tim Moltzen go when he could have easily played in the No. 7.

Anyway I have faith the board at the Tigers will act appropriately.
 
he's been stood down and there for wont be at the tigers luncheon next week (again), which is a shame, a few blokes including myself would have been keen to kick him in the berries…
 
ahhhh, just saw this on fox sports news and couldn't believe it. just after the loss to the warriors i posted how proud i am to be a tigers fan and one of the reasons was the very low number of off field indiscretions. i even said "no mad monday headlines please guys".

terrible news, without missing the issue at hand - violence against women. :wtf

lui may be a great guy normally and a great player who may yet be found innocent, but i think for the tigers to uphold, or redeem, their good name they should pay for lui's counselling as a sign of good will and "wish him the best in his future endeavours". regardless of the court outcome, he should lose his job.

I'm sorry, but as a fan i don't want someone with his history representing the tigers and can't imagine wholeheartedly barracking for him now.

whether they like it or not, kids look up to sportsmen and as such they have an imposed social responsibility.

There is a pattern forming here.
All allegedly of course.
If a man can allegedly strike a pregnant woman, and allegedly strike the same woman again who it is presumed he loves, what is the next step? How many times can people say sorry and it won't happen again? How can a mother have her child in an environment like that? If she's silly enough to stay with an alleged woman basher, what is the child going to go through if they play up?
This case needs to be dealt with swiftly. It's no good dragging it through the system for however many months.
Personally, I find people who beat women as some of the lowest form of scum, and I fully expect the tigers to endorse whatever course of action the courts take. If found guilty and he still turns out for us (which I highly doubt) then tigers get no more support from me. Something is definitely loose in lui's head though
 
The disappointing thing is I have met Rob Lui on a few occassions and from personal experience he comes across as a really nice guy.

I agree with everything you said, except the bold part. Many women who are victims of domestic violence are scared of their partners who beat them, and stay with them through fear of what will happen if they leave.
