Round 1 team

Lote has no kicking game whatsoever. I saw him play fullback for West Harbour last year and he couldn't kick to save his life.

When did a nrl winger ever need a kicking game, maybe back in the dark ages when the old kicking duals where all the go but not now. Okay the odd chip or grubber can be handy but Iam afraid we would have to have a major problem in the mid field if were relying on our wingers for a kicking game–leave it to the experts

Lote was considered as having an "okay" kicking game in Union. Not great but a lot better than Dell's, which was woeful. I didnt see him for West Harbour but Lote's kicking game was usually sufficient for the Tahs and the Wallabies.

Lote actually kicked goals a few times for the Waratahs, so he is a handy option to have in this regard.

This is what i think Sheens will go for… and to be honest... I would too

1\. Brown
14\. Tiquiri
3\. Lawrence
4\. Ayshford
5\. Ryan
6\. Marshall
7\. Moltzen
8\. Galloway
9\. Farah
10\. Gibbs
11\. Ellis
12\. Heighno
13\. Fulton
------------
2\. Fitzhenry
15\. Cayless
16\. Moors
17\. Payten

I think Sheens will name Fitzy in the first 13, but Lote will run out on Lawrence's side, keeping a strong hard running big bloke outside him and keeping Ayshford and Ryan together.

Fitzy will be there to backup Lote and will eventually drop out of the squad i would imagine.

Despite Lui killing it in the halves by all accounts... It was against the Sharks and I probably could have looked like a superstar aqgainst them. Brown will eventually leave FB for Lote... but it seems silly to me to shuffle around the halves, fullback and a wing position when you can get stability in the halves from the get go and just shuffle the Fullback and a winger.... Moltzen will start half...

UP THE TIGERS!!!

You maye have looked like a superstar against them but Moltzen didnt so why select him? All reports suggest he was vastly overshadowed by Lui.

Marshall and Moltzen play very well off each other… which I believe is a result of the two living together.

My main point is... When Lote moves to FB... Moltzen will move to halfback and Lui to reggies. Sooo why create a major reshuffle when you can minimize it? The more stability in our halves the better... especially come the second half of the season.

I dont disagree with that just the assertion that because the Sharks were crap Lui's performance was not that good. You can only play the opposition in front of you. The Sharks may be an ordinary side but they still have some decent forwards who can make a tough hit on a young half. It sounds like Lui handled that with aplomb.

My concern with Lotte, does he have a kicking game?

I would imagine his kicking would have improved going over to union… why is this a concern though?

If Sheens wants toplay him at FB as he has been quoted i just associate FB's with a decent kicking game and having all round ball skills.

Which other NRL club is going to start the season with halves that they don't expect to be threr for the majority of the season?…Manly maybe...

Sheens has stated he doesn't want to rush Lui...so I'm expecting he will start the season and then go back to the 20's or State Cup just as he did with Moltzen in '08....

I don't see the logic especially in the crucial halves positions..where stability is key...

I can also see why Sheens will go down that path...it's a risk...IMO...

Ahh ok… fair enough.

Lui will stay at 7 all year if he can start the season well. And if Lazarus stays fit, gets some game time and finds his feet, they will have to find room for him somewhere.
I'm just happy with the depth we have this year. There is bound to be hot competition for positions which will keep everyone on their toes, and unfortunately, there are bound to be some injuries.
Bring on round 1 and lets start playing. I can't wait for 2010 to kick off.

Lotto isn't a fullbacks fingernail.

The refs this season have said they will be alot stricter in kick chasers and expect the fullbacks to have more room as a result. With a large and damaging runner like Lote… this could be a brilliant move and get the Tigers easy meters from the get-go as opposed to the usual pathetic 10 - 20m return

As I said, I dont disgaree with that. There are legitimate reasons why Lui should not be picked. Downplaying his performance against the Sharks, in my view, is not one of them if the person you are going to pick is Moltzen (who pkayed in the same and from what I have heard didnt really perform).

This actually comes back to one of my problems with Tim in the 7, his inability to organise and dominate a game. Like Lui, he is not a natural 7 and for this reason I am not a confident as others that he is a long term solution here.

Apart from Hayen I can't really think of another Fullback that has a kicking game that is well utilised. All round ball skills, now thats a different story, they come thick and fast!
