Hope Skelton lines one of their backs up early and really punishes him, they might think twice about going down his side at least. Our defenders out wide need to learn to use the sideline as another defender.
And steamrolls them when he's in possession.Hope Skelton lines one of their backs up early and really punishes him, they might think twice about going down his side at least.
I think this is the wrong approach against Newcastle. They have speed, strength and skill on their left edge and we have players not noted for their defence. If we are to win this game it is off the back of our forwards and an up and in defence to put pressure on Sharpe, Best and Ponga. If we let them come to us and slide with them the time and space will allow them to work our edges over. Our defenders out wide need to learn to use the sideline as another defender.
I hope he has his tackling boots on!Faatape over Toa is interesting.
I like it.
The boys need to contain Best. He’s dangerous when he gets around the defence and at speed. To'a is made of glass
Knights backline has a major advantage over ours... our pack looks good though
Hopefully the focus on defence in the pre season sorts that out. We’ll see how that went on the day.Looks like the Knights gameplan will be to attack our centres, stands out like dog's nuts.
Yeah one on one with Best might be carnage. And kick to Mason, ,who can't jump or catch.
This is... Interesting.
Think this will really show us how much the inclusions of May and Luai have added to the team. I think we will be more than competitive, with some decent cattle still to return. On paper, with 4 centres (Olam, Laulili, Naden, Toa) and first choice fullback and hooker out (Bula and Api) we really shouldn't win this.
Expectation is we should have enough desire and strength in the forward pack to make it competitive. If we get blown out I'll be very disappointed.
But if we do get the win it will be a huge confidence booster for the side and show how far we are really come since last year.
That’s the defensive strategies as much as the players themselves . I thought they clearly showed a sliding defence in the trials I saw , especially midfield. Allowing these stepping block plays to run their course , and end with the ball carrier being tackled just in from touch . Which actually if you play it right now ruins 3 plays . As the the play itself , the following play to reset back centre field , and the 3rd play now is , depending on where the 2nd tackle ended , now can be in no man’s land centre field . With numbers set in defence .Our defenders out wide need to learn to use the sideline as another defender.
Well that seems a bit extreme! And how many weeks will the judiciary give them for that?not a chance attack is our focus. if we try and get in a shootout Newcastle will tear us to shreds.
we need to come prepared for a dogfight. the only way we can beat them is thru the middle and with Galvin and Luai kicking them to death.
Tbh if Best starts to dominate I'd put Bird in the centres. So one of AD or Faataape against Bradman Best who tore Naden a new one last time. Going to need to immense Turuva jamming me think to shut Best down.
