LIVE GAME Round 14 v Panthers

Live Game Discussion
That's irrelevant, either something is a penalty or it isn't. If it's a penalty they call it. If the penalty count is 100 - 1 that's irrelevant. So long as the penalties were actually penalties. We wernt gifted anything. Penrith in the first half were doing everything in their power to slow the ruck and I reckon they were lucky not to get pinged more.
And of course we weren’t trying to slow their ruck at all 🥴

Your suggestion that something is a penalty, or is not a penalty is hopelessly naive. Refereeing is a subjective interpretation. Human beings are involved.

With regard the officiating of the ruck yesterday, I would suggest we got more than a fair deal.

Great game - both sides played well 👍

I think the frustrating thing for me is our forwards were pretty gassed at the end and you have a fresh man just sitting there.

Maybe he adds some leg drive we need maybe he doesn't but every week our forwards are exhausted at either end
Agreed and even though hes made mistakes. 7 minutes of Roy Hunt would of been better than that.

Most of our tries are out wide. We need to coach our players to improve their position if possible. Skeltons try's position could have been improved. The only player guernsey within the area were ours.
Not getting anything from it is majorly disappointing given the next game looks a whole lot more challenging.

I know i copped it earlier mentioning this but mason had 15 tackles 11 missed he can't defend wide yet. It's suicide.
He is another season or two away defensively, I’m watching it again now, and he just arm grabbed and fell off the tackle without the opponent fending him off. That’s not the first one either.
His A game does not make up for it.

Also just watched Doobie hog it and then kick in to traffic to bomb two tries.

You miss my point, of course we slowed the ruck both teams did, could we have been penalised for it more probarbly. But don't give me this rubbish that we got a fair shake when the ref can give a penalty for a slow play the ball, yet both he and the bunker miss an obvious hip drop at the line that stopped a try that was a definite send off and penalty try. Any other tem the bunker would have looked at it 3 - 4 times. Considering last week that piece of 💩 Ashley Klein was in the bunker and put Api on report a set after his infringement. Which wasn't even an infringement. That suggests to me they went looking for it. Which is funny cause I'm pretty sure Abdo on 360 said the bunker wouldn't go back unless there was some form of play that was grosley dangerous to the player affected. They would only go back I extreme cases. Yet last week Klein had Api put on report when the play stopped about 7 - 8 tackles later when he saw something, if it was so dangerous why wasn't he charged. Don't give me they're human crap, I'm a human being aswell and am expected to do my job to a certain standard. I make mistakes like everyone noone begrudged the referees making mistakes I get that. Now it's beyond a joke that's two wins in two weeks we've been deadset robbed of because of the 💩 that we have refereeing us. That's not mistakes it's getting to the point of bias and favourability toward the vast majority of teams we play against. The Titans have the same problem and up till Payton hammered them so did the Cowboys. Our 3 clubs seem to be the referees whipping boys.

Benji drops Royce Hunt, then doesn't use his replacement for a single minute? Our middle was getting killed and it was 16v17 the whole game. Terrible gameplan

Don't like Benjis blaming of the refs too as it has our players becoming victims. So many times our momentum is killed because of players complaining to referees

May and Seyfarth are the worst for it. I don't think they realise, if you get up and actually try to play on instead of laying there complaining, you might actually get the call!
I posted before how the uae of our bench is terrible. We are not good enough to play 16v17. It’s not the first time this season either that he has left someone on the pine. Pick someone you can use, and the young fella could have done with some NRL game time so he’s more useful next time.

The two Luai penalties, especially the obstruction, were rough but we’ve all seen worse. You can always have a chip at the refs but it’s never a good look unless you’ve won the game.
We all know they can incorrectly rob you after the bell, but all that happens is an apology of sorts on Tuesday.

Because Benji is to inexperienced we need a real coach.
Im happy with how Benji is going....things and results could be better but could also be a lot worse.
Weve come a long way from a couple of years back...he had the team playing tough and for each other...we are playing with ticker and while theres been lapses in games previously were are in it for the most part for 80.
Our discipline has improved due to our improved defense in general play (we arent constantly on the back foot due to losing the ruck)
Theres still more to do...we have better footy in us...new recruits in crucial positions to asssist depth.
We are building.
It would be crazy to dump Marshall now midway through what hes doing.
I see better times ahead and in the past ive been the first to chop down someone saying "have patience" blah blah....but where for a long time in the past the future to me looked bleak...now it looks positive and these things take time

I posted up the hip drop on r/NRL and at first it seemed pretty obvious and most people were rightfully shocked it was missed but by the end of the night I was copping an absolute barrage for it haha.

Am I crazy? I feel like every time I watch the reply it just looks worse and worse. Some clown posted up the NRL rulebook and that makes it even clearer.

I don't know how people can view that tackle and not see a definition textbook hip drop. Some people are fixated on the "must make contact with the leg" but that's not actually necessary for a hip drop to explode a knee. It's about the weight drop twisting and damaging it. That tackle could have destroyed both Bula's knees with ease with it without contact.

And that aside, he quite clearly does make contact anyway?

I am truly gobsmacked.
I’m gonna have to go back to the tape again !

Yeah, cracker game.
Some big hits. Love to see it !

Thought Ziggy did a good job af ref
They said it's his 2nd first grade gig this year

As Benji said, we were the better team.
Just couldn't get the job done.

Lots to like about this team.
Latu... wow. Dangerous player.
Yea I thought he was really good . Just those 2 decisions were just yuck and game changing . I’m not sure if that’s him or the bunker . It’s really hard to tell .
One thing I will say , is when he is challenged he takes it as a slight . You can see it on his face . There’s no reason for that .

When was this hip drop?

💯 the ruck was officiated correctly IMO. Unlike say last week , where holding Down to 3 seconds , which is nrl average , was a penalty , and a send off …. That’s where you scratch your head…

What this says 💯

Mason missed 11 tackles.......made no line breaks!
Next game..........Latu the 5/8 please.
Tackled everything coming his way and I feel would be better in attack at 5/8.
It was a close game---3 tries each, and we were a whisker away from a late winning try.
My big hope is we can repeat this effort next week?
PS I thought Sione Fainu had a great game at prop.

Good performance. I liked how we weren't run over in defence, we really held our own.

We need a little more strike, someone to turn the game. Latu looked good when he game on, so praying he is the person.

Laui had a very good game but still, ill discipline with that penalty, should not of put himself in that position. You expect more from your million dollar man.

Overall, everyone had a good dig and played well.

I am only seeing this narrative on here....and its wrong.
For a tackle to be a hip drop, the defender drops their body weight onto an opponent’s legs in such a way as to constitute an unacceptable risk of injury. That did not happen. Sorenson's body did not end up on Bulas legs, in fact he ended up sitting on the ground beside him with his legs facing forward.
It was an excellent, desperate try saving tackle that prevented a certain try through skill.
