TEAM LIST Round 16 vs. Storm

Team List
To’a at 6 is interesting.
He has never shown any inkling to be a ball player, even as a center his run to pass ratio is very low. He charges into the defence with force and keeps moving, that’s his strength.
His tackle efficiencies are not great either, always sub 90%. Additionally, he will be required to be the dominant long kicker as Wakehams long boot is not fantastic.
He makes a lot of meters running the ball, but that’s against centres and wingers. Now he is facing halves and backrowers.
Not saying he can’t do it, but I would have used a specialist and hoped that they could step up. We tried to manufacture him as a fullback last year to our failure, hopefully we aren’t repeating that effort and havent weakened our centres to also weaken our halves.

Surely he can't be as bad as our preferred 6 before his injury.

I trust he can use his strength to our advantage in attack and listens to the advice Benji gives him about when to feed his outside men and when to take the line on. He strikes me as a heads up player so is likely to play what he sees as opposed to having some preconceived ideas.

His defence could be a problem against a livewire like Prezet. If he work hard with the edges during the week he is big enough to put some real starch into Prezet if he catches him. A couple of early Jack Whighton type of hits may be enough to put him into his shell.

An interesting experiment - will it be pure Sheenius? I guess we will have to wait until Saturday to find out.

Crap game for TDS to debut.

Won't be able to gauge much I suspect, but hope he plays his part well. A lot of hype.
I actually think it is a great opportunity to debut.
Melbourne missing 5 regular nrl players (Munster, Grant, Coates, Welch, Katoa) and a game at his home ground in his local area.

He still has a quality pack (only one missing is Stefano) around him to hopefully win the ruck and I would hope that Sheens is planning to use him either side of half time. That way the Storm starting forwards are either tiring, or he is coming on against the bench players (who are pretty much Cup standard this week).

Not expecting him to have a massive impact in what will be limited minutes. However, it will be great to see him get a shot and run out in the NRL for the 1st of what is hopefully many, many games in Tigers colours!

One good thing the storm have done is pick Nelson at prop , means he won’t play big minutes, he is easier to contain in the middle than running out wide

Might have a couple of extra slabs delivered on Saturday. ;)
Seriously though, although we are probably on a hiding to nothing, I'm still hoping some of the resolve we have seen this year is still there. We don't have the depth we'd like yet but if that resolve is still present it shows there is just a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel.

Looking back at Toa's time at fullback, it's hard to imagine he has the passing or kicking game to be a success at 6. It would be great if he does though. He must be showing something at training to suggest he can do it.

This is the weakest Storm side I think I’ve ever seen.
Usually when they lose players to Origin, they have young guns step in who are potential stars themselves. Only Pezet satisfies this title.
Some of the others are reserve graders.
Despite our weakened side, our pack should get on top and provide room for the halves to feed our outside men.
I’ll take us by 4.

Tim Sheens selections this year have been abysmal how Wakeham, Talau and Seyfarth are in the team is unbelievable all three of them are reserve grade players yet they continue to be selected above potential first grade players, such as Matamua, James & experienced NRL players like Laurie & Smith. On top of that we released a quality first grade player in Joe Ofahengaue with no replacemen thus far. We might not have one of the best squads but we should be higher on the ladder and it’s all got to do with Tim Sheens selections.

Or we don't have any options.

Like I said last week, he showed a bit in the short time he was at 6 v Titans. Plus he’s playing with confidence, which helps immensely.

Daine Laurie.. Will. Smith?

I'm reminded of the old saying " don't weaken one position to strengthen another"

They don't appear to be good options right now though. Maybe Laurie deserves another shot.

I've given up on this season already.

What's brain fart naden gunna come up with this week?

You reckon only one ? Dude has to get his head on right or he is a liability not worth playing. I think he should be in the team though. He has the ability to be a good outside back and we've signed him longer term.

Lol, a couple of months ago everyone on here thought he was a superstar and our best back and were stoked we'd re-signed him for another 2-3 years

Are you talking about Naden ? He can play but he has brain explosions all too often. That isn't a new thing.

How much experience has Star To’a had as a 5/8 ?
Will Smith isn’t a young guys, Tony Pellow ?
Don’t know why we call them depth signings, looks like they are only signed so we can put a ressies team out each week.
Looks like picking your best 17 available players and trying to fit them into the team somehow.
Which I probably agree with at this point.
Glad I’m not a coach doesn’t matter if it’s the tigers or NSW everyone has difference of opinions
Good luck to both of them over the next week.
